Review: I have no complaints
by: Jonathan Ludwig on date: June 26, 2007
I have now printed several hundred pages with this printer. I have only seen one paper jam because my wife shut it off after she unknowingly sent too big a print job to it. I use it only as a network printer and the driver installs very well and works flawlessly. I haven't seen any printing errors and no flaws whatsoever in the print quality. It's very fast and hasn't slowed down any. The toner saver mode is a really nice feature. I don't have a whole lot more to say about it because it just works.

I also bought it because the toner and drums are cheaper (per page) to replace than most printers. I'm glad that my extensive research paid off. If you want a good quality black and white printer, that can be networked, is reliable, fast and economical, buy this printer. My experience with it is positive enough that would recommend it to anyone for home use.

I agree with others that it is a bit loud, but where I have it doesn't matter to me any. It is in the same room as my TV, 12 feet from the couch and doesn't bother anyone.

Review: Easy set up, fast and nice quality, great price
by: Lynn Loewen on date: June 17, 2007
My main concern was getting a laser printer set up and running on our home network to be used by multiple PCs. I'm not a network admin so I needed this to be simple. I spent hours trying to get a Linksys Print Server working and then it ended up making MS Word unusable on my Desktop. After I de-installed the Print Server MS Word worked fine.

Anyways, I got a little worried when the instructions recommended to check with your network admin (not me and especially not my husband). I plugged the cat 5 cable into the printer then into one of the network jacks. Then found on about the last page of the instructions how to print the printer configuration settings. This got me my IP address which is what you need before installing the drivers. So do yourself a favor and get the configuration information (IP Address) first (push the blue print button 3 times). During the install it will ask where the printer is, select URL and type in: http://youripaddress ex. http://192.168.1.5

I got this up and working for two computers within 30 minutes (that includes dusting off the area I was putting it in).

Review: Curling problem - Solution Suggested
by: Ishmael Soobrattee on date: June 12, 2007
This printer is not for you if you live in the Tropics or in an environment that is very humid (Humidity here averages 70% to 80%). Regardless of the paper used (including leading brands of paper suggested for laser printer use), it comes out curled. Really curled!!! Maybe an air-conditioned room or office would be better.

This is very frustrating especially if you want to make use of the Manual Duplexing Feature. Even if you are just printing on one side, the curled paper makes it quite a task to staple them together. The degree of curling is so severe that after about 5 pages have come through, the additional pages push the previously printed pages out of the tray (and on the floor if left unattended).

SOLUTION
If you have already bought the printer and is stuck with it, it is advisable that you store your paper in a very dry place, with low humidity. If the paper is already moist to the extent that you get severe curling, you can put them in a warm oven for 5 to 10 minutes (depending on how many sheets you have and how spread out they are). Just heat the oven to about 200 deg. F for a few minutes and then turn it off. Then put the paper in the oven. This works wonders!!! ....No curling once most of the moisture content has evaporated.

Review: Awesome Printer
by: I. Jindani on date: May 30, 2007
Got the printer in mail and was up and running within minutes. The network setup was a breeze. The setup was not able to detect the printer on my LAN, but when I provided the IP address, installation went fine. Now I am able to print from my laptops via wireless LAN. The printer is connected to the router using RJ45 though.

I would like USB and network cables along with the printer, but based on the price point, I cannot complain much.

I faced a little curling of the paper initially, but when I tried a bit thicker paper, I did not notice any curling.

Will never go back to Ink Jet printers again. Very good quality laser printer for the price.

Just started printing a little more text. Inkjet ink is way too expensive for text. At this price the printer will pay for itself in no time. I'm printing in the the toner saver mode and it still looks great.

Review: Defective product
by: Walter F. Griffin on date: May 25, 2007
This might be a good printer, but I received a defective one. It has a really bad short in it. Sometime it prints, and somtime it doesn't do anything. I didn't pay enough for it to make it worth my time returning it, so I plan to buy another printer pretty soon. I've heard other people say good things about Brother printers so maybe I just received a dud.

I bought the printer, my 83 year old father installed and ran it. No glitches, I'll to assume the software is really easy (I didn't get a frantic phone call)

No paper jams.

Review: Compact, clean, and whomps 'em out
by: Charles White on date: May 21, 2007
I'm between homes right now. My wireless network is in storage with the rest of my belongings so I have not been able to test the networking features of this printer yet. But I can tell you about how this machine prints.

I used to own an old Epson Action Laser 1000. It worked well enough at 300 dpi and it was kind of pokey for a laser. I priced cartridges when the toner ran out. It became clear that I could buy a whole printer for less. After reading some reviews, I bought the HL-2070N. First impressions:

1. It prints beautifully. The print is clear with good monochrome pictures.

2. It's not exactly stealthy. When this printer cranks up to print, it does so in a rather noisy manner. It's not really objectionable but it's not something you'll run suddenly in a room with a sleeping person. By contrast, inkjets generally whisk along with a whirr and a swish. However, inkjets won't do what's next--

3. She really whomps out the pages. It's fast, far faster than my old Epson.

I've seen other reviewers making much of the curl of the pages when they emerge from the printer. As other have said, the pages quickly flatten out again once they cool and the room humidity soaks back in. It's not an issue. Also, other reviewers complained of how the printer makes the lights blink while printing. It does do that a bit. (It must have a pretty muscular roller heater.) I didn't find it objectionable although it can be noticed.

Conclusion thus far: I'm very satisfied with this printer and I'm glad I bought it. I'll update the review about the Ethernet connection once I get my house, unpack my stuff, and get back into networking.

Happy printing!

Review: For the $$$ this is a great laser printer
by: Richard R. Merlino on date: May 13, 2007
Setup was quite easy, but the installation instructions were a bit hazy, when it came to networking this printer via ethernet. But when all was done this printer works well with networking and directly connected. The only problem is, I have to turn off my ceiling fan when printing many pages, due the fact the pages fly out of it so rapidly they sometimes fly right out due to the fan. Funny thing is, I also bought a HP 7310 all-in-one inkjet that boasts 30 pages/minute, what a lie, it doesn't even come close to the 2070N even in draft mode.

Review: Excellent basic networking laser printer
by: deepsoul13 on date: May 12, 2007
This is a very simple machine to use. The only difficulty I had with it was setting up the network because it doesn't have an lcd with which you can program it. Otherwise, it prints quickly, it's not very loud, it doesn't take forever starting up, and you can load larger size sheets into it due to its expandable tray.

Review: Great printer for the money!
by: K. Cervantes on date: May 11, 2007
I opted for a monochrome printer so that I could get something better quality for my money than I could have if I'd gone for color. I love this printer! It's very fast and neat. The curve issue is nonsense. I'm glad I didn't let the curvy paper reviews stop me from buying this printer.

The fact that the printer is so compact is another huge plus. It fits into my setup very neatly!

Review: Awesome Printer!!!!!!!!!
by: Caryn Mcgregor on date: May 11, 2007
I read printer reviews out the ying yang before I bought this one, and then I bought this one. It is perfect for me. It is very easy to set up. It comes with a starter drum and toner cartridge that takes seconds to put in. The directions are clear. The paper is easy to load and hidden from plain view. The design is sleek, and looks very nice. It is lightweight and small which is awesome, and still has great resolution. My prints come out sharp and crisp. The printer comes with a cd, but my cd rom is broken, but it was no problem, as my computer's printer wizard was able to locate the software online and install it within minutes. This printer is a spacesaver, a timesaver, and a moneysaver. The toner cartridges last 2500 pages, and are cheaper than others. I like printing pictures too, but for color photos, an inkjet printer is better than any laser. Buy this if you want to print great text, for a great price.

Hard to beat the price on such a nice performer. Built in Network connection works great and was easy to set up. Crisp and quick printing and supplies are low priced. This is my third laser printer from Brother.

Review: Brother HL-2070N
by: R. S. Niwinski on date: May 7, 2007
The Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer is a good printer for the money. I recently had to purchase this one because my other printer, a Brother HL-10V, which I had for ten years was not working any longer.

I trust the name "Brother" and this HL-2070N works well. Its actually faster than my previous printer.

I am truly happy with this printer and if it lasts at least half as long as my other Brother did, I will be thoroughly satisfied.

Review: Very good network printer for under $110!
by: Vinayak Satyanarayan on date: May 5, 2007
Bought it when it was under $100 on amazon - really do like it and most certainly worth the price I paid. A tad noisy perhaps (when loading the paper), but its not particularly annoying. The manual duplex feature is nice to have. Do not know much about the toner life yet - since I've been using this for only about a month now, and I do not print a heck of a lot.

Review: Problematic from the Beginning
by: Christian D. Nunciato on date: April 30, 2007
We've had problems with this thing since we bought it, unfortunately.

I was very excited to find it, at first -- it's a reasonably priced network printer, from a good company, with a small footprint and a nice design, the perfect solution for our little place.

The thing just jams continually, even with plain old laser-printer/copier paper. Easily one out of of every five print jobs we send jams up; it drives us both berserk. God forbid we try printing mailing labels, or anything with a weight beyond regular laser paper, because that almost guarantees failure and frustration. We've probably lost collective hours of time dealing with paper jams alone, walking back and forth between the computer, which is in one room, and the printer, in another.

The software's also very buggy. For some inexplicable reason, it decides periodically to send certain print jobs to the manual (tray) feeder, despite that the automatic feeder's been set manually (by us, repeatedly, both in the printer's settings as well as in any documents we print) as the default. Since the tray feeder (that slot in front) accepts only one page at a time -- well, this'll drive you absolutely nuts, too. It just seems to have a mind of its own. (The installation program also ignored our choice to store the software on another drive; after choosing the "Advanced" installation option, and specifying drive D: as the location to store the software, it proceeded to install everything on drive C: anyway. Nice.)

When it does work, it's great! But it just doesn't work all that often. Not without a fight, anyway. Can't recommend it, unfortunately.

Review: Good alternative to HP
by: Sergei on date: April 29, 2007
Everything works as expected. Quality and speed are great. I also like that it is more compact than most laser printers. Setting up the networking feature was very easy.

I use it as a network printer only without direct connection to any of my computers. The only issue I encounter on rare occasions is that if I print something after my laptop was in hibernation, the documents just sit in the queue without printing until I restart the computer.

I have not figured out whether the problem is with the printer, the router, the driver, or the laptop. This is the only reason for 4 stars vs 5. But it happens so infrequently that I can live with it without spending time to troubleshoot it.

Review: Fast and Ubuntu Friendly!
by: Marcus A. Sasiadek on date: April 29, 2007
Wow, I have a new found respect for Brother printers. The support site is amazing. This printer has drivers for Windows, OS X and Linux! HP doesn't.

The printer is very fast. It makes my old HP 2200 look like a snail.

Very easy to set up for Ubuntu, even the network part. Feisty Fawn figured out the printer's IP address before I could tell it what I thought the address was. I'm very impressed with this printer. Wish it did double side printing, but outside of that, it's great. I might get another one. And HP is no longer my first choice for printers.

Review: Love it
by: Magnolia on date: April 27, 2007
I bought this printer in December 2006 to replace a very old HP inkjet. This printer connects directly into a router, which is much less hassle than one that connects through somebody's computer. The print quality is excellent and its fast. Five people in the family use it and everyone is very happy with it. We have four PCs and two Macs and setting it up was easy on each one.

It holds a whole package of paper in the tray. When I print an envelope, it waits for one to be feed through a slot and then prints without the need to push a button.

If you know the printer's IP address, you can access it through a browser to see how many pages have been printed or change the configuration. Nifty.

Review: Great low-cost laser printer
by: Itty Samuel on date: April 25, 2007
The printer is great, if you want a low-cost laser black ink printer with network features.

I had no problem connecting the printer to my router and then following the steps to setup the printer on each of my computers.

The paper curling is really not even an issue. Its hardly noticeable.

Its low noise.

The only problem I have is that if a print job fails, then the printer (fan) remains on until the problem is fixed. The red LED remains on. If there are no problems, the printer stays in sleep mode until the next print job. But if the print fails, then the printer and fan remain on until the failure is fixed. This has been a problem few times, when I forgot the the print job failed and the printer remained on all day.

Review: Great Price.....Great Printer
by: D. Kim on date: April 23, 2007
This printer works great. Very fast, crisp quality, and great network feature. Very easy to install. I've had a Brother laser printer prior to this for 7 years and I cannot say nothing else but good things. Not only is the quality good, but the toner and drum units are relatively less expensive than other name brands. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a reliable and inexpensive network laser printer.

Review: Solid Performance for the Network User
by: C. Hua on date: April 15, 2007
The quality on this printer is only average and does not quite compare with HP laser printers. However, in terms of use as a network functional unit, this is the easiest unit I've ever setup with its intuitive web interface and connection. It is extremely stable even under high load due to its built in network interface as opposed to other printers that work through a network print server device, which can become unstable when using special printing functions or when you get errors such as "toner out" or "paper out."

The interface allows network and printer administrators to configure and monitor the printer through a wide variety of metrics, way more than any home user. However, my reason for purchasing this was for high volume printing over my 6 computer network. It is simple, compact like its non network predecessor and the best network bang for the buck. I would recommend this network printer any day for any user who does not require an enterprise grade network printer, which easily cost 3x this printer!

Review: Works very well
by: Powell E. Barber on date: April 13, 2007
Mac setup flawless under 10.4.9 Tiger. Never could get windows driver to work until I assigned a static IP address to the printer. Run it off a D-Link DI-524 router.

I'm a home user. Printer is fast enough for me and print quality is good. Printer seems to have 3 operating modes, namely 1)printing, 2)sitting ready in case you print again, and 3)standby. It's somewhat loud during printing, but not unreasonably so. There is fan noise when in mode 2 as decribed above, and it's completely silent in mode 3. It does dim the lights on startup (in my old mid-century home) so there's some current draw when the heater(?) starts up.

Have had no paper path issues. Tray holds a generous amount of paper - we've not had to refill in a month (and that's during tax time...)

Have not tried any of the fancy stuff. After fighting with my old HP 1610 for over a year, the reliability of this machine has been most pleasant.

Review: Excellent value
by: David S. Markowitz on date: April 10, 2007
I've had an HL-2070N on my home network for several months and I have been very pleased. It is connected to a Netgear 8 port 10/100 switch. I've experienced no difficulties getting a couple of PCs running Windows XP Pro, two Apple G4 iBooks, and one Apple MacBook Pro to print to it.

The print quality is excellent. I have not had the problem with paper curling like some other reviewers have reported.

I installed one for a client who needed to print from Macs and PCs on his home network. It's working well for him there. I have another client who bought one themselves and use it a lot, who informed me that it's working well.

I highly recommend the HL-2070N, especially if you need to print from non-Windows computers.

Review: Love it!
by: L. Hunter on date: March 29, 2007
It was super easy to hook up and begin using immediately. It does use a lot of power, as to the flickering lights in my bedroom when it's working, but that may be something in the wiring of the room, not the printer itself. The "scroll" issue is hardly worth mentioning, considering it will flatten out if laid flat when still warm. No biggie. The printing is fast and pristine and loading paper is simple. I'll never go back to inkjet again!

Review: Decent laser printer for the price.
by: Kevin Crandall on date: March 26, 2007
So far this printer is pretty decent. We are running it off a central server on a network and it has become a pretty reliable printing source. It is really fast compared to your average inkjet. I gave it minus a star because it sometimes prints an extra page with a small black diamond on it- causing excess paper waste. I have not had a chance to look up why this might be happening. Overall though, solid printer for the money

Review: Brother Network Laser Bargain Printer
by: Mavena on date: March 19, 2007
This printer is fully 10/100 network compatible. The install is straight forward. The total cost of the printer is less then the network option on other printers. The only negative is the cost of the cartridges (about 70% the cost of the printer with a cartridge) but refills are available at less then half price.

Review: Brother HL-2070N
by: B. Torres on date: March 16, 2007
We love this printer. It's not perfect, but it's very very nice. I used a stop watch and timed the print speed on a 20 page print job. Not quite the advertised print speed of 20 per min, more like 20 per min and 7 seconds, but still, it's very fast. Print quality is superior to our old HP 2100 and the networking ability is awesome. The only thing that is a drag (bad) is that there is no "straight-through" option for the paper. So it really curls up the paper. Oh, and it get HOT. When I print my CD labels (stomper), sometimes I re-print on one of the left over labels and it melts the glossy underside of the sticky labels. the labels come out fine and I don't think it's hurting anything, but it just shows how HOT this thing gets. Oh, and it's slightly louder than the old HP2100.

Other than those minor gripes, the thing is a feakin' workhorse!

Review: Great for the price
by: C. Mudra on date: March 14, 2007
I have had the printer for about 6 months and have had no problems so far. It prints fast and clean. It does exactly what I need for the right price.

It does curl pages, but it's hardly noticeable. It also jams about once every 500pages (grabs two sheets of paper at a time). Both are minior flaws that are easy to fix. For the price this can't be beat!

Review: Replacement parts too expensive!
by: Robert B. Macdougall on date: March 14, 2007
A few days after my 1 year warrantee expired, the tray which holds the powdered ink malfunctioned. A new tray cost $114.00 plus shipping. That is more than 50% of what I paid for the printer.
Otherwise very satisfied. I have 2 and one has not broken in a year.

Review: Wouldn't install into my network
by: Vernon L. Hunt on date: March 13, 2007
The install instructions were no help, so I'm left with a network(able) printer running on a USB line to ONE computer. The manual kept referring me to my Network Administrator for assistance. Yeah right, it's in my house and I'm the only one here. Other than that, it prints quietly, quickly and cleanly. And turns itself on/off soon enough (not described in manual, surprising enough). Like the prints, hate the networking documentation.

I've owned it two weeks and feel it was a good purchase. Now we will see about its longevity...

Review: Good for the price
by: Paul Nelson on date: March 11, 2007
I purchased the Brother HL-2070N after my HP Laserjet died about 6 weeks ago. Overall, it has been very good for the price. We are an all Mac household, and it was very easy to install the drivers and plug directly into our home network.

We are using it in a home business that does music editing. I have found that I get about 1800 pages per toner cartridge. I purchase refurbished cartridges from Cartridge World (to save money and help the environment). The downside is that the drum unit ($90 - about the cost of the printer, itself) needs to be replaced after about 10,000 pages. I am used to the HP system that includes the drum unit as part of the toner cartridge. Just be aware and educate yourself about the Brother system of separate toner cartridge/drum cartridge when purchasing this unit.

I use standard 20 lb. paper with it, and after about 5000 pages, it has only had 2 errors. Both times, it was while printing large batches of files (200 pages or more at a time) and it pulled two pages from the paper tray at the same time.

My biggest complaint is that there is almost no warning time when you run out of toner. With my HP printer, I could print until it became faint on the page and then shake the cartridge a few times and get 200-300 pages more, before having to replace it. With this Brother printer, when the toner light comes on, it means that it will stop printing until you change it. The best thing to do is to always keep an extra cartridge on hand, and as soon as one runs out, replace it and purchase a new extra cartridge.

This is a great printer for the price. The print quality is as good as should be expected - very clean, and very fast. Unless you step up to a MUCH more expensive printer, you will not avoid the paper curling issues, which are not really that bad, either.

Review: Great printer....but....
by: Listening South on date: March 8, 2007
I knew what I was getting into buying this printer, because I use the non-network version (HL-2040) at work. The one I have at work has been in use for 18 months, rarely ever paper jams and the printer cartridges last a long time. My very **VERY** bad experience with now **THREE** dead Hewlett-Packard printers led me to buy this for home use. I bought the HL-2070N version for home because I wanted to be able to use it as a network printer on a LAN (no need for this where I work).

BUT -- the driver that came with the printer in the box was screwed up. The printer worked fine, but the language module was a mess. Half the directions were in English, half were in a language that looked like Danish or Swedish. It made using the printer rather hard (while I could at least guess what some of the items were, my wife had never seen this printer before and couldn't manage it) -- and it then took A MONTH for Brother to straighten this out for us. Repeated emails, phone calls, downloading stuff -- we were on the verge of returning this to Amazon for a refund when they finally got it fixed for us. The printer now works great as expected, the driver software included was bad and their customer service routine as usual in the computer industry was absolutely horrible.

Review: Fast prints High quality haven't used the sheet feeder yet
by: F. Farwell on date: March 5, 2007
This printer has performed flawlessly on our network. Fast prints and of high quality but i have ot tried the direct paper feed yet. I had a brother 1440 and the direct feeder was junk so for the price if this one doesn't work well I wont be surprised if it does work okay that would be great. But i have it up in the air near my desk where i can open the drawer and add a sheet quickly if in need to and that works fine and is almost as convenient as using the direct feed option.

After owning many different inkjets in the $ 100.00 - $ 200.00 range for over 10 years I purchased this model which was on sale for $100.00 at Office Depot. I was simply ( and still am ) amazed how this machine operates. Printing comes out more clear then any inkjet I have ever owned, it is extremely easy to operate having only one button on the entire machine, printing comes out very fast and from one replacement toner cartridge you can print out a whoping 2500 pages!!! Thank you Brother Corporation!

Review: CURLED PAPER = LAME (Otherwise a very good product)
by: 3MTA3 on date: February 22, 2007
Compact, easy set up and inexpensive are all nice, but they're all ruined by the unapologetic curling of paper (even heavier stock). While I like everything else about this simple printer I feel like I'm reading scrolls when I print out documents. I'm looking forward to the day this one expires and I can upgrade to a model that leaves the paper flat.

Review: Great printer for the money!
by: Philip J. McCourt on date: February 20, 2007
For the money you can't beat this printer. Prints faster than any inkjet could and for a lower cost per copy. Also if you print with the toner saver turned on it is even lower per sheet to print. Bought this so I could print over my network. I have it hooked up to my switch which is hooked to my router. Went into my router and gave the printer a static IP address. Had trouble with the webpage based setup just couldn't keep the thing working.

What I did to get it working correctly is, add it as a local printer on each computer then change the port setting to TCP/IP. I then entered the IP address of the printer 192.168.X.X. Works great like this and wakes up from the power saving sleep mode. Even with the small networking problem I still gave this 5 stars.

Review: Can't beat it
by: Annie on date: February 16, 2007
You can't beat this printer. The price was just right. Setup was a breeze on both a PC and a MAC. Print quality is good. Print speed is good. The paper curling issue that others have mentioned isn't really an issue at all.

I really can't say much more...the other reviews do a great job.

Review: Best laser printer for the money
by: An Nguyen on date: February 15, 2007
I'm a techie and somewhat picky about electronics products I buy.
I don't normally write review, but I feel obligation to do it for this printer because it's one of the few products I'm really satisfied with.
I went through Samsung ML-1210, ML-2250 as well as HP and Canon printer, multifuntion printer, etc. but never quite satisfied with a complete package whether it's ink cost, print quality, performance. I found this Brother printer an impressive offering and quite happy so far.
Pros:
- small footprint, if not the smallest for laser printer
- reasonable toner cost ($45 for OEM, or you can buy refillable toner for $15)
- easy network installation: software driver is intuitive. It's up and sharing within minutes. You'll just need a router (or wireless one) to share this printer on your home network. This built-in printer server feature is a $200 option on many comparable printer in this price class!

Cons:
- not really, except it consumes little more power than other home laser printer, at 450W vs. 350W.
- separate drum and toner units. Samsung has these two in one unit so when you replace toner, you also get new drum, for around $70. Don't know how much a drum for this printer will cost though.

Some people mentioned paper output tends to curl. I believe this was only on early production. Brother has corrected this problem. My printer manufacture date is Oct 06 and printout looks fine. I never thought of the Brother brand when I shopped for my printer. HP is a name brand but way overpriced. Samsung is decent. But Brother is the best value! Highly recommended.

Review: A little quirky to get set up, but works well after that.
by: jfb on date: February 14, 2007
Once this was set up on my network, it's a good little printer. The setup was a bit awkward, and I'm a long time IT power user (back to late 1970's). I have a home LAN and hooked this printer up to a switch that connects to my router. I was unable to print or control it through the browser interface. Brother has helpful tech support people, but nobody with Mac experience was available. After some troubleshooting, I found that the printer will work fine as long as it is directly attached to the router, not to the switch. Now it prints fine from my Macs. The web based interface control is quirky - it doesn't reliably communicate with the printer and won't wake it from sleep. Printing does wake the printer from sleep, but even then the browser interface won't reliably talk to the printer. I did get my settings in once and they seem to have stuck.

Once set up, the printer works fine. Wakes from sleep, prints quickly, not too loud, small foot print.

For $115, you can't beat this little printer. Even if I used it through the USB interface, that's a good deal. The network interface is icing on the cake.

Review: Absolutely PERFECT for a small office
by: Bobby Lo on date: February 14, 2007
Like many others reading the reviews of this printer, I was confident I was getting the right printer for my office. Received it in a short amount of time, and others say it's easy to setup on a network, I say it's WAY TOO EASY to setup on a network. This printer has exceeded my expectations of a $125.00 printer. Everything is plug and play... makes me wonder why all network printers aren't this easy. Printer speed is fast. It's not a silent printer, but who really cares. It prints so fast that when you notice the noise, it's done printing already. Also, the paper curling thing people have been saying, it's barely anything. Give it like two minutes and it straightens out and it doesn't look unprofessional at all. If you're looking for an easy plug and play network printer and exceptional speed, this is the one for you.

Review: Great little home network laser printer
by: W. Cox on date: February 11, 2007
I've had this printer for about 1 month now and have used it to print 500-600 pages of mostly text. Also, printed some manuals with pictures/illustrations. So, while I cannot speak to how it will hold up long-term, I can say that we have used it without ANY problems to this point. Seems to be well made compared to some of the flimsier printers I looked at.

The setup for our network was so simple. I read the PDF manual for about an hour looking for all the tips and tricks, but none are needed. Just do what the instructions say... put the CD in the computer, run the install and let the install program find your printer on the network and install the print driver. It worked perfectly! In 5 minutes per computer, even the kid's wireless computer. I could have saved all the reading and followed the simple instructions.

The print driver is pretty full featured, even walking you through "manual duplex" by printing one side first, then putting the paper back in, with a picture on the screen to show you how to orient, an printing the second side.

Extremely pleased with the purchase to avoid using up ink on our inkjet for the kids projects... now only use the inkjet when color is needed.

The printer does "curl" the paper a little, but that relaxes out after a few minutes... hasn't caused a problem yet, even when using the manual duplex feature. Also, the print output is "ok" at the 600 dpi setting, but looks really good at the 1200 dpi setting. I haven't used up the smaller toner cartridge that came with the printer yet, but my guess in the 1200 dpi uses more toner just by seeing how much darker the output is. Along the same lines, you replace the toner cartridge (rated 3500 pages), not a full developer cartridge (20,000 pages) so your per page price is lower compared to other printers that include the fuser with the toner.

Overall, great little laser printer that hooks up to your network and installs quickly. 250 page paper tray holds plenty of paper without having a plactic paper holder hanging out like some of the slightly smaller printers. Hardy recommendation!

Review: Excellent for our law office
by: Andrew Titus on date: February 10, 2007
This little printer is the sole printer in my law office. We use it for our normal printing and have a scanner that puts out to it in place of having a copier. We use it to print our envelopes, too. We have had good luck with it, we refill each toner cartridge one time, which is easy to do by the way, so it's quite economical. After refilling more than once sometimes the carts begin to leak the toner. It's fast enough for a small office. The print quality is very good and it is used it to print wills, court documents, and our business cards: we use only high quality papers (at least $12 a ream) by the way.

I like the fact that there are no plastic flaps or doors that must be left open.

On our unit when printing through the front tray, the paper or envelope must be pushed in there firmly, otherwise the unit won't grab it. I see no reason to spend a penny more on single sided printing.

Review: Easy setup, good quality prints
by: R. Weaver on date: February 9, 2007
We set this up on a Mac/PC wireless network (using Airport) in MINUTES! I'm very happy with this printer, very good quality for the price.

Also, if anyone is concerned with printing from Adobe products (InDesign, etc.), I've gotten Postscript Level 3 options (transparency, OpenType fonts, etc.) to print with no problems. I did download the most up-to-date drivers before using the printer for the first time, which I would recommend to anyone regardless of whether you need higher-level graphics or not.

Review: Terrible Printer - Avoid like the plague
by: M. Mattix on date: February 9, 2007
In less than a year this printer has been serviced twice and now we have to make a third trip for the same issue.. I had this in the shop last October and just got in out in Feburary because of a part that was on national backorder. After printing a few pages all lights start blinking and nothing works even after unpluggin for a day. Service center can't fix. I called Brother 800-276-7746 and was told there is nothing they can do since this is out of warranty....... Avoid Brother like the plague. HP had great customer service, great polices, they cared. Brother shoud be called enemy seriously because thats what you are getting.

Review: easy to set up, fast printing, good quality
by: grad student on date: February 6, 2007
I originally purchased a Samsung laser printer and a D-link wireless printer router thinking that I would soon have a wireless printer setup. I spent a day and half with on the phone with tech support, trying four different printers with the router before I gave up and took them both back. That's when I went with this Brother model with built-in networking. I had it setup and connected to my own wireless network in less than 10 minutes after receiving it. Wish I would have gone with this first!

Review: Prints really fast but too noisy and paper curls
by: Valerie Wu on date: February 3, 2007
I purchased this laser printer on amazon a few days ago and so I far I like it except it produces alot of noise when it starts printing, gets warm fast and produce paper curls. Aside from that, its a very good laser printer for the price, prints really fast compared to a regular inkjet printer and also will save you alot of $$ on replacement ink.

Review: Great Personal Printer
by: C. Rifenberg on date: February 2, 2007
I have read the reviews and was worried about the paper curling... So, does it curl?? wellll ok, a little.. if you look carefully from the side... but come on, what do you want for $100.

This is simply an awesome personal printer. It is very fast (as fast as the network printers at work... ok at least "my" work), the print quality is good (slightly grainy on images, but not noticable on text), and the ease of networking capabilities is why I bought it!

The form factor is perfect. It's big enough to fit the paper inside, but small enough to fit comfortably on your desk.

To sum up... if you want a cheap, fast, "good" quality, networkable printer, this is it!

Oh yea... remember, this is a "laser" printer. Say it with me now... "laaaser printer". That means that it is Black & White, NOT color. If you expected a color laser for $100, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Review: Networked printer wins over inkjets
by: Mark Michaels on date: February 2, 2007
I rarely print. Yet I have gone thru many inkjets printers (and their expensive cartridges). It seems the cartridges become useless if not used often. I'm hoping this new laser printer will last, despite being largely ignored.
Networking aspect is very cool. I have a mac and a pc sharing internet using DHCP over 4-port router. Just plug the printer in 1 of the ports, and you have a printer both computers can use. Okay, installation on both computers was not trivial (due to router), but still I got it working. Printer seems to sleep and print just fine. If you don't need color, I'd say go for this small, inexpensive, networked printer!

Review: Terrible - constant paper jams after only 6mos. Noisy, curls paper etc.
by: uniquephotos on date: January 24, 2007
I do not recommend this printer!

Wasn't thrilled with it at first because it was a noisy. I can't use it for printing envelopes because it they come out sealed and if the envelope has a plastic window, the plastic is warped. I tried printing some invitations which was a heavier paper and they came out VERY curled. I've read elsewhere that the problem of sealed envelopes and curled paper is because the printer uses too much heat.

The worst part is that after only 6 months I started having trouble with constant paper jams! I've heard other users with similar problems on other boards.

I'm fed up with this printer and am going to buy a new one. This one was a waste of money!

Review: Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer
by: B. Hollabaugh on date: January 15, 2007
This printer proved to be very easy to set up and install. It is compact, prints quickly, and generally performs very well. It's a bit louder than our higher capacity HL 5250DN. However, the Brother line of printers has been very dependable in our small office environment. For the price, the HL-2070N is a great deal.

Review: Great printer!!!
by: Gdaddy on date: January 12, 2007
I have a HP Photosmart 2710 wireless printer and it has been a world of problems -- especially the insane software that severly slows Windows systems. So, I was skeptical. But WOW! This printer was a breeze to set up and works very well. It slipped into my network without issue -- it almost seemed too easy. I would give it 5 stars, but it does cause your paper to curl. So, it is a good printer for most uses, but I wouldn't use it for business purposes where presentation is an issue.

Review: Great Printer!
by: A. Bruce on date: January 11, 2007
This printer works very well. It prints fast and I like the manual feed tray. I also like that it can be hooked up to a USB port and doesn't take up much desk space. Some users have complained about curling paper, but it straightens out quickly after printing.

Review: Pleasantly suprised!
by: David Day on date: January 10, 2007
This was my first laser printer under $1500, my first new one in 7 years. Very impressed with it's simplicity and the quality of the printing. At this price; for a printer used for a couple hundred pages a month, it's a winner.
I've printed in excess of 5000 pages, no problems, good quality.

Review: Great Choice
by: F. Crawford on date: January 10, 2007
I am very happy with this purchase. I have the printer hooked up to my wireless network and print off my laptop from anywhere in the house - love it! The print quality is great. I have a multi-function printer that I only use for scanning as the print quality is horrible. I also have a desk jet printer that prints "okay" and I only use it now for color prints. So, in comparison, I am more than happy with this printer. And the price - you can't go wrong [especially with the Free Super Saver Shipping].

Review: A Decent Network Printer
by: Jeffrey Picard on date: January 9, 2007
I was on the look-out for a replacement printer for my old Epson Actionlaser 1600 which had just given up the ghost after about 14 years of service. I finally settled on the Brother HL-2070N Monochrome Laser Printer. This printer is a very nice but not quite perfect unit. On the plus side, this printer is a piece of cake to set up and warms up almost instantly when called upon. The only problem I had during set-up was when I wanted to have my router issue a static IP. I had trouble getting the printer to refresh it's already assigned number. A simple on/off of the printer fixed this problem right away. Printing is fast and the quality is excellent. The size footprint of the HL-2070N is quite small and, being black, it's relatively unobtrusive. On the con side, printouts do tend to be a bit curled but not excessively so. This is a common problem with mid to low end lasers these days according to the many user-reviews I've read. Also, the manual feed at the front of the unit is a tricky thing to get just right. More often than not you'll end up feeding your stock slightly crooked. Overall, this is a nice printer and on the whole I'm satisfied. When taking the price I paid into consideration this was a great deal.

Review: Solid printer, curly pages
by: M. Littau on date: January 4, 2007
Compared to many inkjets I have used, this printer not only prints quickly, it starts printing the pages out within 10 seconds. The only beef I have with it is the pages come out with a healthy curl, almost as though each one gets rolled up first. This is a little annoying, but the printer is otherwise a great machine.

Review: Nice laser printer
by: D. Alexander on date: January 4, 2007
I bought this printer because my all-in-one HP printer was always in need of ink, and as a student who often has to print papers right before they're due-- it wasn't working for me. I actually haven't used this laser printer that much since I've had it, but I've been pleased with what use I have got out of it. I like the size also-- not too bulky. But I would suggest buying it in stores, because right after I bought it, it went on sale everywhere (Staples, Office Depot, etc.)

Review: Reliable
by: Gindungo on date: November 12, 2006
I've had this printer for about 6 weeks now (~500 pages printed) and I'm very pleased. The printer gets the first page out fast and has been very reliable so far. I bought it mostly for its network feature and to avoid the typical hassles with inkjets (costly ink, deteriorating quality over time) and have not been disappointed. Linux, Windows, MacOS all work fine. The web interface that comes with the printer is also very informative - lets you know when it's time to replace the drum, how many pages you printed, etc. Highly recommended!

Review: Kudos to Brother!
by: Walt Marston on date: November 10, 2006
I'm very happy with this printer. The speed, reliability, print quality and features are pretty amazing given the low price. But the thing that prompted me to write this review is the very positive experience I have had with Brother customer service. On two seperate occations I needed some help - when I called their 800 number I reached (in less than 2 minutes) very friendly and knowledgable humans who knew exactly what they were talking about and quickly solved my problems - in understandable, native english! Keep up the great work, Brother!

Review: Great Printer if you Don't Need Color
by: J. Kessler on date: November 10, 2006
My Mom kept complaining about her older HP inkjet printer. It was acting odd yet again. This was her second HP inkjet printer and she didn't use it that often - in fact it was still on its second ink cartridge. She was asking for a better option.

I asked if she really needed to print in color. She didn't. She likes printing web pages to give my computer-phobic dad to read, or perhaps to print off an occasional recipe.

Folks on the Macintosh OS X list I subscribe to periodically tackle the topic of low cost printers, and Brother consistently gets rave reviews. Brother seems to do a great job of producing machines that perform well at a reasonable price, and they are among the best for Macintosh support (Mom has a Mac Mini).

So I ordered a Brother HL-2070N for her. I got the N model with the Ethernet port (it also has a USB port) so she could also print from her wireless iBook.

Installation went well. The driver installed easily and the printer worked perfectly the first time I printed. I was expecting this to be a bit more complicated since I was connecting through the network, but alas, there was no excitement.

The machine appears to be built nicely - a lot more solid looking than the typical ink jet - and the black finish looks great on her desk.

Since getting this machine Mom is thrilled. The machine warms up in seconds, and spits out pages at an impressive rate. The printouts are sharp and easy to read, even with her 80 plus year old eyes.

When my own ancient HP Laser Jet finally gives up the ghost I expect a Brother will replace it.

Review: best buy
by: RK on date: November 6, 2006
This is the second Brother HL-2070N printer i"ve owned. The first died during a storm and I forgot about electrical surges. The only negative on this printer is a slight curling of the pages. It is fast and reliable. The prints are crystal clear. I would recommend this product to everyone.

Review: Wireless network printer.
by: R. Matthews on date: November 3, 2006
This is the best deal out there. Unpacked from the box and 10 min. later we were printing with no "strings" attached to our notebooks. Also it is very fast compared to our old HP unit.

Review: Brother Quality Continues to Impress
by: Robert L. Stinnett on date: October 23, 2006
This makes my third Brother laser printer that I have owned over the years. All three printers continue to be operational despite heavy workloads that I put on them in my small business. In fact, the only reason I bought the 2070N was because I wanted the convenience of the built-in networking capabilities. When it comes to quality, Brother shined above all the others and continues to do so.

The 2070N is a 20ppm monochrome (black and white) laser that can hook right up to your existing network. There is an optional wireless adapter you can purchase if you don't have a cabled network. One of the things that impressed me the most was how easy it was to get setup and running on the network. I had used HP printers years ago that were 'network ready' only to spend hours trying to figure out how to get the rest of the computers in the house to see it. With Brother, it was a matter of "plug and play". I took it out of the box, hooked it up and it automatically was assigned an IP address and the included software saw the printer and setup the necessary drivers. It doesn't get any easier than that!

There are a lot of features built into this printer that you wouldn't expect to find on a consumer model. For instance, the printer has a web interface that you can use to administer and check the status of the printer. There is also a built-in FTP server so you can literally FTP your large documents over to be printed. Errors and such can be setup to be e-mailed to you automatically so that, for example, when you are running low on toner you can get an email alert before you run totally dry.

The printer warms up faster and from sleep mode to print usually takes less than 10 seconds. Though some of the earlier 2070N models apparently had a problem with heat and curling paper, it appears that Brother has fixed this as I have never had my paper curl -- even during large print jobs.

Overall, you can't go wrong with the 2070N. It's a low-cost workhorse that will serve you well for your print jobs in both your home and small business environment.

Review: It is wonderful to be able to print wirelessly from anywhere in the house.
by: Sharjeel Ahsan on date: October 20, 2006
It is an excellent low priced network laser printer and is ideal for the whole house. Upon just connecting this pritner to the wireless router and installing the drivers to the computers, I was able to send print commands from any computer in my house including my laptop, without going through any complex setups and without to worry about the wires. The web based control panel is also a wonderful feature. Along with other things, it also tells you that how many pages have been printed so far and how many could still be printed from the same toner and drum unit.

Updated on 12/23/06:
Some revieweres have mentioned of paper curl problem. I've been using this computer now for couple of weeks but have not experienced this problem.

Review: DO NOT BUY BROTHER 2070N IF YOU NEED A NETWORK PRINTER
by: Haydar S. Emre on date: October 20, 2006
This company (Brother) is totally ignorant on networking. They have based networks on "AUTOIP" which is irrelevant to office and home networking. Therefore, it does not configure on regular DHCP configuration.

Setup documentation contains "nothing".
User Manual contains "nothing".
Technical Support contains "nothing".

Nothing, nothing and nothing.
That's what you get!

Ignorant and arrogant companies who take consumers lightly pay the price:

Brother 2070N printer is returned.
Lexmark E120n is purchased.

Review: Quite Nice
by: R.H. Jeon on date: October 11, 2006
I purchased this laser printer because it has Network capabilities at low cost. It is very fast. I have an older much more expensive HP laser and the start up time to print is much slower than this model. Of course that probably has something to do with age (3 yrs old).

I liked the 250paper capacity, since I only print about 10 pgs a week. I just loaded it an forgot about it. The footprint of the printer is quite small. The color matches the filing cabinet that it sits on, but that is neither here nor there. I have a desktop PC and Powerbook, it works well with both. I liked the USB 2.0 though if you don't have the cable already, you'll have to purchase one. My powerbook came with a printer and it happened to supply that printer cable. I haven't tried the watermark function but that sounds great.

The best part though is the cost of operation. With the normal toner cartridge they estimate 2.5 cents per page which is much cheaper than HP's 3.5 but having said that. HP 1022 is a beautiful machine (obviously that is highly speculative, what looks good to me may look ugly to you) but more expensive. The HP 1022n is much more expensive. So go the local store and check them out before purchasing online. CNET has great reviews and this printer was rated 7.1 compared to 6.3 for the HP. Samsung ML-2010 had great reviews, but the ML-2571n which has networking capabilities was over $200.

Neg - It does bend the paper when printing. It isn't a problem for me but some might find it annoying. Some would consider it loud. Which it is at startup, but it is a little less noisy while printing and silent on standby. It comes with a starter toner ~ 1500 pages which is fine but when the standard replacement is 2500 you feel a little ...

Overall - I really like this product and would purchase another for the kids but I don't need to because the network capabilities.

Review: Love this thing!
by: T. Moss on date: September 9, 2006
I have had this printer for a couple of months now and feel confident to review it. I got an incredible deal on it, so that definitely added the fifth star. We have both this Brother laser and a Brother multifunction hooked up to our CPU- we have only used the MF once in these two months to print a couple of pics. I am a teacher and use the laser every day to print class sets of about 30 copies and unlike the deskjet, I don't feel like I am overworking it at all. Woohoo! No more rushing to school to get to the copier! As for the paper curl people are writing about- I used to have an inherited HP laser (a pricey one) and it curled the paper too- the paper straightens out when it cools off. To be able to have a laser at the price of this Brother is amazing!! I will say this, though- I don't get the big deal on the networking ability- I was able to network the MF through Windows setup anyway- just had to make it a shared printer.

Review: Easy Ethernet, Fast and reasonalby priced.
by: Steven C. Hoskins on date: September 9, 2006
I bought this because I wanted a laser printer but ethernet capability was my top priority. Like others, setup time was about 10 minutes and that includes the wireless network capability. I just plugged into its ethernet port plugged the other end into my wireless router and was instantly printing wirlessly. Although speed and warmup times were not of much consequence to me, both are amazingly quick. A bonus I didnt expect. It goes to sleep and pops itself on as soon as I send a job to it. Small footprint is great. I sat it on top of my Sony WA40 subwoofer and it looks like it is built into it. Holds 250 sheets of paper tucked into the footprint. One user complained of a problem printing multiple pages from From Adobe. I also print a great deal from Adobe and tried one page through several pages. It printed them all as I instructed without a hitch. If you want it wireless, small, and fast you cant go wrong with this little wonder.

Review: Great budget laser printer
by: JCB on date: August 24, 2006
I purchased this laser printer because I needed something with a smaller footprint and light since I am using this in a portable fashion taking it from job site to job site. I also wanted something faster then an inkjet. The printer met my requirements and then some. For speed, it really is fast. Warm-up time is just a few seconds and it starts cranking out paper. The advertised pages-per-minute are true to their word. The by-pass feed is very easy to work with no extra steps required other then sticking the paper in the slot. It apparently can be used in a network setting, but I have not tried that but it looks easy enough to set-up with the included software that takes you through step-by-step. If you want an inexpensive laser printer that is still very fast by almost any standard and doesn't take up much space, this one will work for you.

Review: Excellent network printer for a fantastic price
by: Krishna M. Sadasivam on date: August 23, 2006
I purchased this printer based on the numerous positive reviews on Amazon.com's website. I received the printer yesterday. Set-up was a snap. The printer can accommodate a USB, Parallel or Ethernet connection. The directions were sparkling clear and the Flash animated set-up on the included CD was a brilliant touch. The printer cranks out 20 pages per minute, and supports OS X right out of the box. I was able to quickly and easily configure my Macbook Pro and PowerMac G5 to print to the Brother 2070-N with no problems whatsoever.

The printer itself is solidly built - goes to sleep when not in use, and quickly wakes up from sleep when needed. I haven't noticed any page curling - prints come out solid and crisp, just like the HP LaserJet printer I use at work.

This is a fantastic laser printer for the money. For what its worth, I 'switched' over from an Epson Inkjet printer. I am extremely satisfied with the Brother 2070-N and would recommend it without hesitation. Highly recommended.

Review: Excellent, affordable printer
by: J. Pfiester on date: July 5, 2006
I have had this printer for about a month now and have been extremely pleased. As other reviewers have mentioned, the pages due tend to come out a bit curled; however, the curled pages haven't bothered me too much since I use the printer for small home/home office jobs.

The quality is excellent for a very reasonably priced laser printer. It is quiet, warms up quickly and prints very quickly compared to my old Lexmark ink jet.

I highly recommend this printer for home/home office jobs and as a replacement for an ink jet printer (where you constantly have to replace ink cartridges!).

Brainless setup in Win and Linux, great output, always available from all over the house (and I print from Acrobat Reader almost every week with no problems). My second Brother laser, and I used to sell their dot matrix printers as a dealer and they all chug along for a great price. Some things just do seem to work.

Review: Somewhat disappointing
by: Dwight Karlsen on date: May 13, 2006
The Brother HL-2070N seems like a no-brainer buy: It's cheap, it's network-ready, its low-profile and charcoal color looks classy in a front-office environment, and it has a manual feed slot primarily for use with envelopes. So what's not to like?

The paper coming out curled or curved is annoying, but it's true also that it's not THAT bad, and I've found that putting the sheets face-down while they cool helps flatten them back out.

The other BAD thing is, when I print on our pre-printed envelopes that have a heavier stock with a slightly rougher than normal surface, it leaves a ghost image of the address about an inch to the left of the actual address. This is VERY annoying, since I print a lot of envelopes, and it doesn't look very professional. In fact, I may have to figure out a way to dump this printer and order a new one.

Like all of you, I was up and running within minutes and found it to be quite the capable little printer. However, I have Windows XP and am finding MAJOR problems printing from Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0. Every time I try to print more than one page at a time from an Acrobat document (and I use many of them), the printer freezes up and I get error messages. Upon looking online for an answer, the troubleshooting is very primitive and I've already done everything it's suggested (with no improvement). VERY frustrating - I'm already regretting this purchase. I have the HL-1435 on a different computer in my home and it's been chugging along for years - I expected the same from this one - I hope that technical support can help me tomorrow (it's too late to call them now).

Review: happy overall, small problem with linux.
by: apteros on date: February 26, 2006
yes it's noisy, but I can live with that since I don't use it constantly and it goes into sleep mode pretty quickly. One drawback was that I got this printer because it was supposed to be linux friendly, but neither my copy of ubuntu nor xandros could find it on the network- I think this is a linux problem not the fault of the printer folks, but I haven't got it working yet since it looks like I have to figure out how to manually create print queues. Excellent quality print and very fast, much better than my inkjet in every respect- overall I'm pleased with it under Windows.

Review: Excellent printer from setup to reliability
by: Reviewer18 on date: February 16, 2006
As another reviewer indicated, I became annoyed with the cost of ink jet cartridges and their short life span. This printer was easy to install, worth the price and after one month of constant use I still have not needed to replace the drum. I recommend this printer highly for home and small office use.

Review: Great, low cost printer

I installed this printer in 10 minutes. It works perfectly, dead silient when sleeping, wakes up in 2 seconds and prints very fast and perfect. An amazing deal, a great printer.

Review: Great network printer
by: C. Stone on date: January 16, 2006
I bought this printer to replace a decent multi-function inkjet that was incompatible with two network print servers. I was able to convert the HL-2070N's ethernet port into a wireless connection by hooking it up to the Linksys Wireless Game Adaptor (WGA54G). This connection successfully bridged my office printer to the router in the living room. Thus I can use the printer's own built-in print server rather than a 3rd party usb-to-wireless print server. I'm assuming this is the only way to use the HL-2070N's web interface wirelessly.

Setup was easy, but it could have been better. I had to manually download the drivers for each laptop I wanted to connect from because the printer drivers were not automatically supplied by Windows. Once installed, the printer has a web interface similar to most routers (just type its address into a web browser).

I recommend this printer as an inexpensive way to get a solid laser printer on the network.

Review: brother HL2070N
by: William N. Doty on date: December 4, 2005
I looked for a home laser printer to co-exist with my hp ink jet. The brother HL2070 had more ram than an HP 1022 I was considering and was lower priced. The toner / drum cartridges are also lower cost. When the printer arrived I noticed the quality of assembly was better than the HP 1022 I saw in the local stores. The driver set up was extremely easy. The print speed is quick. Small or full sized text is extremely good. I really like the multiple operating system support. I run Mac OSX and some Mac OS 9 software.

Review: Fast, Easy, and a snap to network
by: B. Ziff on date: November 11, 2005
I needed to upgrade my 4-yr old laser printer to something that was smaller, faster, and, most importantly, easy to network. Settled on the 2070N (even though the non-network model was selling for about $80 after rebate). Unpacked it, installed the driver (important hint: don't plug in the usb cable until *after* you install the software!) and it was off to the races. Speed is impressive: from off to ready to print: 10 seconds. 12 page web document (text) printed in about 20 seconds. Plugged it into my Linksys wireless hub, ran the software on my wireless-enabled laptop, and the software detected the network first time, installed the driver, and now the laptop can print from anywhere in the house. That easy. Only downside is some paper curling in the output tray, but easy to remedy by pressing the paper flat on a cooler surface. I'm quite happy with the printer, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a compact, easy to use, networkable medium-duty device.

Review: Brother Laser 2070
by: J. czarnik on date: October 25, 2005
Pros: Price is right, nice package, easy paper handling and tray storage, quick set up, fast printing.
Cons: Electrical "spikes" I was told were normal, but none the less bothering, the obvious paper curls.

Overall, a good entry level laser printer that is quick and very cost effective. Ink quality good. Would recommend to friends.

Review: Great Price, Fast, Networked, Small, Print Tray
by: Kevin R. Keegan on date: October 14, 2005
This is a great printer for the price. I have bought a number of HP printers through the years, always because I enjoyed their reliability.

However in recent years HP has become obnoxious with the cost of toner and really sticking it too their customers charging for every little thing.

This printer provides everything you need at a very reasonable price. Ethernet a great deal easily $100 with HP, 20 ppm, 10 second start up, and a 250 page enclosed tray(HP has started charging extra for this option how stupid is that) and in a very small case.

Brother has done an exceptional job the printer is as fast as promised, works flawlessly, installed very easily, and with the ethernet I can hide it in a desk in the kitchen without needing a computer nearby.

Highly recommended.

Pros:
Ethernet
20ppm
10 second startup
250 sheet tray
very small
great print quality

Cons:
Color

Review: You'll never go back to inkjet after using this - Easy setup (Mac or PC), speedy, good quality, compact, and networkable
by: booshleeg on date: October 12, 2005
I was a little worried about the paper curling issue at first, but having used this printer for a while, it is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Yes, the paper is curled slightly when it first comes out, but if you set it aside on a flat surface and let it cool for a few seconds, the paper will flatten out by itself. I have seen other laser printers that do far worse curling.

Network setup is very easy, especially if you're using Mac OS X Tiger or Panther. I was able to connect both with Bonjour/Rendezvous wirelessly via Linksys 802.11g router after installing drivers downloaded off Brother's website. Also was able to connect a PC running Win XP, which required an extra step or two. After you're connected, if you need to change any default printer settings, it's all done through a web interface (both FireFox and Safari worked fine).

Overall print quality is noticeably better than any inkjet and as good, if not better than similar laser printers in this class. Even graphic printouts were much better than I had expected and is perfectly fine for non-photo quality jobs. There are settings for 300/600/1200 dpi, a toner saver feature, power saver timeout, print density, and paper type selector (someone mentioned that selecting "thin" paper type causes less curling). Various other advanced printer and networking settings, and emulation modes exist also.

Print speed is very good. It takes about 10 seconds from the time I click the Print button to when 1 page in 600dpi with a fair amount of of text is printed out, even having just awakened from sleep mode. No problems printing out MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat documents.

I've printed a couple hundred pages so far, and have not experienced any printer errors or paper jams. (The printer also keeps a tally on the number of jams and an error history of the last 10 errors.)

Firmware version on mine is 1.11.

Overall, I would highly recommend this printer for anyone looking to save money on inkjet cartridges and want a very good quality, speedy, easy-to-setup, compact, networkable B&W laser printer for their home or home office.

Review: Flawless installation & operation in Mac 10.4 Tiger
by: Brian Beaver on date: September 20, 2005
I purchased this printer for sharing between 2 PowerMacs (1 G4 and 1 G5) on a small home Ethernet network. Installation couldn't have been easier - it only took a few minutes to download the latest drivers from the brother web site and I was in business. The printer shows up as a "bonjour" device (formerly rendezvous). The printer has a very speedy warm up time, and while the quality won't win any awards, it's plenty good enough for average home and occasional business use. Overall, this printer is an excellent value and I highly recommend it for a Macintosh network.

Review: not bad, not great, but not bad
by: Daniel Pryor on date: September 20, 2005
Ok, I read reviews here, then went out and bought, so i figured I would give back...

I bought this because of the cheap price, good looks, lack of a "stick out" paper tray, and the network connectivity. I read the paper curling problem, and figured it wouldnt bother me, but its a pretty big thing. it must produce allot of heat, because not only does it curl the paper, but it also fuzes envelopes shut, and completley melts the window in the window envelopes.

I not going to take this thing back, it does have great qualities, like - you can use a browser to modify the network settings (like a dsl router), it looks great, the printing speed is very nice, and the fuser is a nice 60 bucks, oh, and the fit and finnish are much nicer than any of the hp1000 series I have worked with, and being a network adminstrator, i have worked with a bunch, its just the curling, melting, and sealing of envelopes.

Review: Great Printer For The Whole House
by: Greg Bulmash on date: September 19, 2005
This is a great way to let all the computers in your house share one printer. In my house I have 5... my PC, my wife's PC, a laptop each, and a low-end DIY box I use for playing with Linux.

The installation of this printer was really easy. I plugged it into one of the wired ports on our wireless router and had all the PCs in the house printing to it within 10 minutes. I not only got our Windows machines using it in minutes, when I recently did a test install of Linspire on my DIY box, Linux printed to it with no problem too.

The output quality is great and it warms up pretty quickly. The only "bad" part is when I'm at my desk upstairs (where the printer is), my wife is downstairs with her laptop, and she prints something. Having the printer start up and print without warning was sort of spooky and took a little getting used to.

But all in all, this is awesome. One printer serves the whole house, gives great-looking output, and was a snap to get working.

Review: No hassle install
by: Old Guy on date: July 18, 2005
My Minolta laser died after 3 years of excellent service. So I bought an HP laserjet but I could not get the drivers to see the USB printer. After 5 hours, I took the HP back and got the Brother HL-2070N.

Sweet install. No problems at all. No curled paper either. HOWEVER, it could not print Adobe Acrobat documents properly, formating was off. None of the FAQs cured the problems. I downloaded the latest drivers, which cured the problem with printing Acrobat documents.

I use the printer for text. For that, it is ideal. For draft graphics, it is acceptable.

Review: Great Laser Printer, setup network in 10 minutes tops!!
by: J. Chung on date: July 1, 2005
This is my first review on anything I've purchased, like most, I do a fair amount of research before buying anything, for this particular product, it is fairly new so there are not too many reviews out there, but most of the reviews seemed positive and the price was right. (There is a great rebate right now) Anyway, I was looking for an affordable B&W laser printer for my small business and I wanted to be able to network the printer to a PC as well as a Macintosh Powerbook, both are setup on a Dlink Wireless Router, PC is hooked up using a cat5 cable while the Mac Powerbook is wirelessly connected. I wasnt sure if the Brother 2070n would be compatible with both the PC and Mac at the same time since I have little know-how on setting up printer networks, but I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome.
I connected all the cables to the printer (power cable, network cable). Then, I set up the Mac Powerbook first, just followed the instructions, installed the driver and added the printer to my computer, it took less then 5 minutes and I was able to print wirelessly from my laptop via my wireless router! I was pretty impressed with the ease of setup. Next I went over to my PC to install the driver and prayed that it would print as well. Yes my prayers were answered, the setup again took less then 5 minutes. Popped in the CDROM, setup the driver and the software found the printer on the network. My PC is running XP and there was no need to reset the computer, printed an email and it came out perfect!

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the Brother 2070n, I've only printed out a few things so I cant comment on the life of the cartridge or drum, but as far as ease of setup, this printer was a cinch to setup on a network. Other PROS: very affordable, small footprint, looks sleek in black. Cons: none yet, will have to report that after some more use.

Review: Works with Linux (CUPS)
by: Larry A. Price on date: June 22, 2005
This printer is a fairly basic laser printer. Fast, functional, good for basic office work. The big noticeable difference is that it is extremely easy to setup and get running under Linux and FreeBSD. It listens to port 631 on it's network interface and presents as a postscript level 2 printer as far as your print spooler is concerned.

Using Ubuntu Linux I had it set up in less than 15 Minutes, just clicking on menus. Using FreeBSD and configuring cups by hand took me about half an hour (mostly wrestling with cups and copying the .ppd file from the linux box).

Review: Default printer
by: Lee Carter on date: March 13, 2005
I got tired of buying cartridges for my inkjet. So, I put the color inkjet on a wireless print server in a closet, for when I really want something in color. I installed this as my primary, plugging it into my router. The installation was very easy, as the installation CD that came with it found the printer right off, and effortlessly installed all the drivers. I was up and running in 5-10 minutes. Much faster than an inkjet, and from what I can figure, will cost about 2.5c per page to print.

Printer is very easy to set up, software loads without any issues. The printer works flawlessly.

Review: Great Little Laser Printer

It's selling about $150 + tax in OfficeMax. I bought that in Amazone for under $90(tax included) with free shipping half year ago. I use it for print my handout and homework. I've printed more that 500 pages and I'm still using the 1st toner. The network feature is really work with my linksys router and very easy to setup. Great thing for student.

Great printer at best price. Install fron CD was lots easier than stated on paperwork. Double side feed not that good. Better to insert 1st copy back in tray.

This a great printer. The print quality is excellent and it starts to print almost immediately without tying up the computer like my previous printer. It really does print 20 pages/min. Highly recommended, especially for the price. The paper curling mentioned is no big deal.

I originally purchased a Samsung laser printer and a D-link wireless printer router thinking that I would soon have a wireless printer setup. I spent a day and half with on the phone with tech support, trying four different printers with the router before I gave up and took them both back. That's when I
