Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition Photo Printer

I love this printer! You can't tell the difference between them and 'photo center' pics! Only thing you have to remember is not to use other papers with this printer. The ink doesn't work well on other brands. Otherwise, very highly recommended.
The PictureMate stopped working after using once. We called the manufacturer and was told it was out of warranty even though it was purchased just 2 months ago. After much discussion they decided to send us a new one. In the future I will probably buy this type of item from a camera shop to be sure there are no problems with the warranty.
I just purchased this little photo printer and have been very impressed with the quality of photo prints. One thing I did read in a couple of past reviews was how it was not able to read from 2gb SD cards. It absolutely will read 2gb SD cards as I use one in my Nikon D80 camera and it reads it with no problems. Maybe a little slow but it does read it just the same. In case it matters, I wanted to set the record straight.
This printer is so easy to set up and use. Even my in-laws were able to do it on their own, which is a real accomplishment! The pictures are remarkable! It prints quickly and is small so doesn't take up a lot of space. It's also portable which is awesome! I love everything about it!
I purchased this printer on a whim and it has proven to be an excellent purchase. It is easy to set up and to use. The pictures come out fantastic. I would recommend this printer to anyone with a digital camera who wants to print photos quick and fast. I love the fact that I can print photos quickly without having to turn on my computer or use my bigger printers for photo copying. The 4x6 size photos are perfect for photo albums. This was a great item and well worth the cost.
We won this printer in a Mommy and Me contest, and use it for our business which is an educational Mommy/Daddy and Me organized play program and the Parents' here love it as much as we do! It works SOOOO easily and prints excellent photos. Much better than an HP is our opinion.
I would recommend this to anyone!
I prefer the HP Photosmart D7360 because it does everything but my daughter likes this one for her expert photos.
This is a great little printer. It prints excellent quality photos and is easy to use. I really like the card reader attached-no computer needed. The photo paper and ink costs are in line with other photo printers (at around 26-27 cents per photo). I would have given it 5 stars, but the print time is a little slow, at around 90 seconds per photo.
The quality of the pics are good using this printer. It's pretty basic and easy to use. If you are not technology friendly, this is a good place for you to start. The features are not hard to use.
I already had one, I needed another. It's exactly what one needs on the road. Can even use it with a battery. Pop the CF card in the slot and start printing. Very useful and easy to use!
I bought this about a month ago after reading multiple reviews of it on the internet. It has turned out to be a fantastic buy. The pictures look just like what you would get developed at a photo place. It is easy to set up and use, and it seems relatively inexpensive to do the pictures. I gave it four stars because I have read reviews that say that the ink can become clogged if you don't use it for a while. I am letting it sit and see what happens. I will update my review and let you know.
I read the reviews and purchased this so I could print wallet-size pictures for 8-1/2 x 11 scrapbook pages. I previously used an HP printer but as I was cutting the pictures for my pages, I noticed my fingers were black from the ink! ugh! When I pulled this out of the box, I wasn't sure this lil' printer could handle a stay-at-home mom's scrapbook urges...and then I printed my first picture. I probably will not be sending off anymore for 4x6's unless I have a huge amount. The picture quality was unbelievable. I bought a Nikon D50 camera and probably really have no clue what I'm doing, but you can't tell it from the quality here. When I first opened the box, I printed over 75 wallet-sized pictures and everyone of them were incredible looking! One of the reviews warned that if the printer was not used over a certain amount of time that the ink would have to be cleaned out or something, but I haven't let this printer rest but for a few days yet - so we'll see down the road if that is an issue. Since I don't really know much about printing pictures, I haven't delved into the menu or the options for printing. I'm sure there are tons of things you can do. But if you are a mom wanting to have a blast taking pics of your kids and then sit down and immediately print them, this is a great option - even if you are clueless on high-tech items!
I also paid attention to the reviews that said to purchase the extra paper and ink set through amazon. I don't know how many more pictures will come out of this first ink cartridge, but I have printed over 75 pictures and it hasn't stopped yet. Love this product!
This is replacing a Little HP 230 that would not feed anymore. It was a real worthwild change in my printing habit. Just punch print and forget also allot faster than HP. Epson will be my choice from now on.
This is my first purchase of a photo printer and I was not sure what to expect. I am happy to report that I am pleasantly surprised at the picture quality and speed of the printing. Although the printer isn't fast, I believe this product represents a good combination of quality, price and speed.
I rated this as a 4 - almost perfect. It produces a quality in my opion that far exceeds the quality done by the 1 hour shops. Furthermore, the quality prints are printed in less than an hour in terms of time and much cheaper especailly if you consider the fact you have to drive at $3.00 + per gal. This particular unit is blessed with cropping and other nice add ons. Well done Epson!
Negatively - I would not purchase a 100 sheets of Epson quality paper just by themselves - better to get the whole package including ink and paper - if you don't you'll run out of ink!
I am so happy with the PictureMate Deluxe. It's user-friendly and you get quality pictures from it. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
I recently purchased this becuase my new Kodak printer crashed and there is no easy way to fix that one.
I bought this one for my mom last year prior for Mother's Day so I went ahead and purchased one for myself. I read some reviews saying that the 2G cards won't work with the printer but my 2G sony memory card works great and I haven't had a problem yet. Now, I haven't tried it when the memory card is full but it printerd just fine today with 80 pictures on it.
Great product and I would recommend anyone to buy it.
I bought this printer after looking at the many different types available. I have had several printers that say photo quality and have never been happy with them at all when trying to print photos. This printer has well exceeded my expectations in quality. The ease of getting started within 5 mins of getting it out of the packaging was also great. My photos have never looked better. The only thing I would like is more border options such as blurred edges and such. My husband who did not think this was a smart purchase loves this printer now.
I purchased this with hesitation. I never got good quality photos from my computer printer and did not enjoy digital photography because of it. It far exceeded my expectations. You would never know the photos are not from a developer. It is easy to use with many options. You can actually view and edit the photo before you print. You can add frames. Yet, it is portable enough to take with you on vacations. Love it.
I wanted to print my digital photos without having to go to a photo lab. The sales rep suggested this product. It was the most expensive one out of several brands at that time. I smiled....he said that this was a great buy, the best on teh market and even more so since the cartridges were on special then.
The wife said go for it; so I reluctantly bought it as well as all the cartridges on sale then.
WHAT A DEAL!!! The pictures are unbelieveable!! Crisp. clear, bright colours, NO SMUDGING! The preview plane pops up and is beautifu. The prionter can accept any type of media.
When I present picturs taken on a trip the next day people are amazed that they were printed at home! Truly professional looking and you have many options to edit, crop and manipulate the picture before printing.
I called them cartridges but the boxes had in ink as well as about 50 sheets of precut glossy paper for printing!
This was an excellent buy and it has performed flawlessly for over a year.
Unconditionally recommended!
I love this printer .. so much so, I purchased a second as a gift for a friend. It's intuitive to use, the pictures are print house quality and it can go anywhere. I plan on getting the car charger to have it when we take driving vacations.
I purchased this printer to use with my iMac since I find our regular Epson printer goes through ink too quickly when printing photos --and -- the ink replacement cartridges for this printer are MUCH cheaper.
So far I'm exceptionally pleased!! The quality of the pictures is great!!
Also, a correction to those reviewers saying you can't print "borderless" photos with a Mac. I found this to be the case at first and was very disappointed. But, after fooling around with iPhoto a bit I discovered that if you crop the photo to be printed to a 4x6 postcard (in iPhoto) and then print WITH borders (instead of "borderless") the pictures come out flawless without ANY borders. I have no idea why .. but it works perfectly.
A great purchase.
I am very pleased with the product - great purchase sourse through Amazon
This a great machine that is versatile, highly portable, prints high quality photos and all for a great price. It's so easy to share photos and make memories come alive with instant printing. This is a great piece for parties--simply sling the carrying case over your shoulder, snap some photos and print out momentos of the occasion while everyone's eating refreshments. I've used it for several such occasions and everyone is so appreciative and excited to take home a photo as a remembrance of the event. It's been an awesome piece of equipment to have. I highly recommend it!
I had just a couple of my vacation pictures printed at a local photo shop (while I shopped around for a photo printer for my home), and after I got this darling little printer -- it's easy to transport, easy to store, takes up little room on the computer desk, and is just plain cute -- I printed the whole batch of pictures (over 300). The pictures from this printer are EVERY BIT AS GOOD as the ones from the photo shop! The colors are true and vivid, and the images are crisp. (I used a 7.1 megapixel digital camera.) Even the photos of Neuschwanstein in the rain and fog, along with several rather dark photos of church interiors, turned out well.
Since the ink cartridge that comes with the printer lasts far longer than the small paper pack that comes with it, I highly recommend buying the 2-pack ink and 270-sheet paper pack -- the extra 70 sheets of paper helps even out the ink and paper usage, which is important since you can only buy the ink and paper together.
My only complaints about this printer (and neither is bothersome enough to deduct a rating star for) is that 1) for some reason I had to clean and realign the heads after only 10 photos -- suddenly the 11th photo was streaked and the 12th photo was TERRIBLE, and 2) there is no easy way to shift your photo image even slightly to center an image when using the decorative (mostly Disney) borders. (I have not connected the printer to a computer yet, though -- it does such a great job directly from the SD card, there has been no need -- so maybe if you use the computer you can do this.)
I don't think you can beat the picture quality for the price!
I love this printer! I was very impressed with the quality of the photos. I have not found another printer that compares with the quality of this one. It is very easy to use and prints out 4X6 photos in a snap.
I am so thrilled with my picturemate! It is such a great portable size and the picture quality is FANTASTIC!!!! I would highly recommend this printer to anyone interested in printing excellent quality pictures at home or on the go! Thank you Epson for a great product!!
I love this thing! I took it to our family reunion and everybody had cameras that plugged into it (or we used their camera's memory card) and it made prints that I'd say are *better* than going to the local 1-hour. True, at 30 cents a piece, they cost double, but hey, we didn't have to go anywhere to make them - and doing it as we all sat around visiting was half the fun.
On the down side... It takes a long freakin time to warm up, read the memory (especially the first-generation SD cards) and a good, oh, minute an'a half or so to get the print into your hands. Was it faster and more convenient and fun than going to WalMart or something? Sure... but being able to turn it on, have it initialize and read the memory in say, ten seconds, and print each one in say, five, would be much more useful. I have a hard time concentrating on any one thing for ten solid minutes just to make a couple pictures.
Update - 3 weeks later I'm using it for the second time, and guess what? Denver Mike, foto bug, is right - it needs new ink from sitting around unused. The good news is that I printed ALL the paper that came with it (back on Christmas and used up 3/4 of the ink cartridge while it was still working right back then. Funny thing is, the pictures aren't totally worthless in spite of the cartridge being jacked... they kinda look like I shot them with a first-generation disposable camera!
Easy enough for my parents to use. Without help. They don't even have to hook it up to the computer. I got it for $80 at Amazon, but it was refurbished (which was a surprise). It doesn't matter, the price you pay for the supplies will far far exceed what you pay for the printer.
The printer makes great looking prints, but be aware that if you don't do a lot of printing you may grow frustrated with this device. If you leave the printer for a few weeks without doing a print, either the ink will dry out or the nozzles will get clogged, often requiring the purchase of a new ink cartridge (and remember, you can't buy ink for this without also buying paper). Since I only print occasionally for specific purposes, this means that I'm only getting about 10 prints or so before I have to get a new cartridge. Kind of raises the per-print price. Too bad dye-sub costs so much.
I drove myself nuts deciding between this and the new Snap model. I did tons of side by side tests and what I found is this: The Snap prints pictures better without a computer. ie: no post processing. With post processing, the Picturemate Deluxe prints better photos. I LOVE this thing. Take my word for it, get one before they are gone....
Based on all the hype and even reading the reviews I thought this would be a really good, easy to use photo printer. Instead I find that it does not seamlessly interface with a MAC: it will print after you have to switch printers in several places to the Picture Mate, but sometimes it put white bars, like a border on the bottom and top of the picture, and out of Mac's 'Preview' it will only print a small piece of the total image. I have called both Mac and Epson and they refer me back to each other, neither helping me resolve the issue I have. Oh, and while picture quality overall is good, it is not great. I was really looking forward to using this printer, but am quite disappointed in the end.
This small, portable picture printer is the best. We RV and often take it with us on trips. With our laptop, we can create postcards from our own digital photographs and pop them right into the mail. Much better than sending pre-printed postcards and each recipient gets a card we think they'd really appreciate depicting what we've actually seen on our travels, sometimes with us in the photograph alongside the beautiful scenery. It can be used without a computer and works very well that way, but if you want to create cards or postcards, you need to use your computer.
After doing extensive research and reading that this photo printer tested by far the best for print longevity, and after seeing the positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. I am SO glad I did!
Truly, you would never know by holding and looking at a print that this was from a home printer and not a lab. The white border option looks fantastic (if you choose to use that), and the colors are sharp and vivid. My kids rush over to hold prints as soon as they come out, and I haven't seen a single smudge or print.
So far, I've tried white borders and borderless, black and white prints, bright sunlit and muted photos. All of them were just gorgeous. I'm actually much happier with the quality than I am with the last several batches I got from major online photo processors.
Setup was straightforward, with clear instructions. If you're printing from a computer, you'll need a male/male USB cable, which is not included. There is a separate booklet just for printing from a computer, which really basically consists of plugging it in, attaching the USB, installing the software, and it's good to go!
Being a scrapbooker that tends to be short on time and advance planning, this will be a lifesaver for me. With this, I can finally catch up and be current with my pictures!!!
I recommend this without hesitation. (:
I bought this printer two months ago and have been pretty disappointed. Some pictures print really well but I can't seem to get a narrow blue band to go away at the top of photos now no matter how many times I clean the nozzle. I would not recommend this printer.
I find this printer to be great at what it does. It uses pigment based ink that makes prints that last 200 years if stored in a photo album. The newer picturemate series announced this year have switched to dye based ink. Dye based ink is used by printers like Costco and other stores who want to print fast. The quality may be good, but they are not guaranteed to last. With this picturemate deluxe, you can print archival quality prints. The ink system used in this little printer is similar to Epson's professional line printers like the rx800 and others.
I do not find that it's print speed is too slow. Prints come out dry and smear free. The are as advertised water proof. I can drop water on the prints and the paper won't get soggy like traditional prints.
I just bought this at my local store. It prints great pictures...it so easy to set up. Most of the comments below I agree with. I'll leave it to that!!
I received the printer as a Xmas gift from my mother and brother in 2005. I love love love this photo printer. I was blown away by the print quality when I saw the very first picture that I printed. They look like they were developed in a photo lab. I've printed more than 300 photos and the quality of the print is the same as the very first picture. I love all the features of the printer especially the Disney borders. Since the printer is portable and does not require a PC, I have taken it to special events and printed photos to give to friends and family. Most of them have also been amazed at the quality of the photos. No more photo labs for me. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone and everyone.
I purchased this printer 10 months ago after reading the reviews which all seemed great. I've always been an HP fan.
Great product?....Give it some time. My printer has never been moved from its original location. It has developed blue blocks of color on everything despite numerous attempts at cleaning, aligning, cartridge changes, etc. When I contacted Epson tech support they sent a document on how to clean, align, and change the cartridges. It's not worth the hassle of sending it 40 miles to a service center. HP is looking better all the time.
This is a great printer. I have used it several times and it makes great pictures. I had some pictures taken at a low resolution and the print still turned out looking great. Tried this on a regular printer and the print didn't look near as great. A great feature is proof sheet print of the pictures you have. You can also add a border to your pictures which makes things nice for postcards.
Colors are great and vivid. Also the prints look like that purchased from a photo shop. I have not tried printing to non Epson paper so I can't say how prints would look. I know that Epson printers look the best printed on Epson paper.
We love this photo printer....the price is good, the results are fabulous, and the supplies are very reasonably priced. One little glitch i noticed is that after a period of down time - for us about 2 months during which we didn't use it - the prints were not clear. I had it do a clean-the-nozzles (i forget what it's called officially) and then the prints were absolutely clear again. Very easy to use right out of the box, and the menus are easy to understand. I love this little Thing, especially when i think of all the money we've saved in prints!
Having this printer means I can take digital photos on a whim and then print them quickly. I still, though, save my most important photos for the PC with its rather sophisticated Photoshop editing. Oh, did I mention that, overall, I waste a lot less printer ink using this thing.
There are those who don't/can't use a PC, some of my senior friends for instance, thus they're unable to experience all the benefits that go along with owning a digital camera. If I were a marketing executive at Epson, I'd team up with one of the camera makers and advertise package deals in the senior magazines (AARP's for instance).
Oh, and another thing, wouldn't it be great if one of the 4x6 format photo printer manufacturers made one of these with a larger LCD screen. This one's nice, but from this senior's perspective a screen twice the size would undoubtedly have resulted in a 5 star score.
So far this printer is amazing and if the photos last as long as advertised then I'm all about this gizmo especially if it will keep my wife out of the film/camera store! Also the ink seems priced pretty good compared to my other printers. Installation on XP was a cinch and the program that comes with it prints fine although I haven't tried to use any of the editing features yet. I've always bought HP printers but this one may have me sold on Epson.
Ratings are only a part of the overall picture of a printer's quality. Always read the test results as it will tell you more than you might consider. Epson is the leading quality photo printer and the first to make ink that will last for 200 years when stored well in an album. In regards to preventing water spots, I have accidentally had water touch the surface of plenty of photos and was always disappointed in having it ruined very good photos. When you print a photo from this printer, you can touch it right away without any finger smudges and don't have to wait for it to dry like the others. What value do you place on instant gratification? Very impressive. Besides, who wants to lug a printer around to hook up to the TV when your camera can do it? Hello!?
Maybe Big Rick received a defective printer. It's so obvious the difference between the Epson and the HP. A low-tech person can even tell the difference. Every store will provide a printout and you can see the results. So it is so surprising that Big Rick had such poor quality. Maybe he was using another brand of paper because that will also contribute to poor quality. By far, this printer is the most user friendly, high quality printer for those who just want to print 4x6's. I mean, duh, it's up front that it will only take 4x6 paper. If you want to enlarge your photos, then obviously buy another high quality printer.
Very easy to setup. Printing your favorite moments and saving them to cheerish could not be easier. My only comment is that when printing pictures through the use of a USB connection to a computer, the color output displayed on the pc does not necessary reflect to the output on the printed picture. Perhaps it's just me being careless with some of the settings. Overall, very good efficent unit.
In spite of having 6 colors to print with, the Epson prints look faded and washed out. They look grainy. I agree with all of the Consumer's Reports reviews that have listed the HP portable printers above the Epsons and Canons in print quality. (Go to the library and see for yourself). When you look at the photos side by side you will see how much brighter and clearer the HP photos are.
I suggest you do what I did and take one of your favorite photos into the store and print it out on a Canon, Epson and HP. After all, you are the only one that needs to be pleased. You can also decide whether it is more important to store your photos it a bottle of water, or for them to look great and last a long, long time. I bought an HP 475. It is smaller than the Epson deluxe, prints 4x6s, 4x12s and 5x7s, stores photos on its hard drive and will even show them on a TV with a remote control. I think it is very cool when traveling or at family get togethers.
The Epsons are so big and heavy and ugly looking. I think Epson is still trying to live on their past glory. BUY THE HP 385 OR 475. Either one is better than this printer.
A previous reviewer (A.Lee) talked about how you need to use your camera's DPOF function in order to print only certain photos from your camera's memory card.
The printer has a much easier and more direct way to do this. When you choose to print photos (instead of choosing to print a series of photos), the first photo from your memory card or camera appears on the screen. You can use the up and down arrows to change the number of prints you want for the photo. For example, press the up arrow once to change it from 0 to 1. Then you use the right arrow to proceed to the next photo. Once again you use the up and down arrows to choose the number of prints. You continue using the left and right arrows to go through all the possible photos. When you have chosen all of the ones that you want copies of, just press the print button.
I haven't yet bought this printer (looking at various printers for a possible gift) but I was reading some of the recent reviews of this product and one reviewer stated the following:
" The only thing I wish the printer had (unless I have not found it yet) is a function to "Select certain" pictures off of a memory card and them print them (to basically tell the Epson exactly which pitures I want (program the printer) before I print them out so I dont have to keep coming back to the printer..... All I have found is "Print a selectable range" of pictures like from 5-15 or print certain photos "one at a time". I am not using a computer with this printer. I am taking pics on my camera and then use the card directly in the printer. very simple. "
The reviewer is correct about this model. The Epson Picturemate Express Edition printer does allow you to select multiple individual photos to print. It has a 'select several' option that this printer does not. Of course that printer does not have a display panel so you can see the photos.
HOWEVER... for both of these models of PictureMate printers and other photo printers support DPOF. DPOF stands for Digital Print Order Format. A printer that supports DPOF will read the DPOF information stored on your memory card (along with the photos) and print only the photos you have selected and print the specified number of copies of each photo.
Your camera MUST also support DPOF in order for this to work. Many if not most of the current models of digital cameras support DPOF. Using your DPOF capable camera, select which photos you want to print and indicate how many copies of that photo. This information is stored in the memory card.
Now there are a few ways to use DPOF when it comes to printing:
1) You can connect a PictBridge capable camera to a PictBridge capable printer (like the Epson PictureMates). From the camera, you can instruct the camera to print the DPOF selected photos. In this case the camera is the brains and sending only the selected photos to the printer (and if you requested multiple copies it is telling the printer to print the number of copies.) Note: In this case the printer does not have to support DPOF, only PictBridge in order to connect the camera directly. All the 'intelligence is in the camera. Check your camera manual to make sure that when connected to a PictBridge printer it can utilize its DPOF selection to tell the printer which ones to print.
2) You can also take the memory card out of the camera and insert it into the PictureMate. On the PictureMate when selecting the print option (one, all, range, etc.) choose DPOF. The the printer will examine the DPOF data on the memory card and print the selected photos.
Note: My printers do not have a slot to insert a memory card so I can't verify this personally but I'm fairly sure that after the printer has printed the DPOF tagged photos, it will NOT remove the DPOF data from the memory card. So if you tagged 10 out the 30 photos on your memory card and printed them, and then you decide you want to print 5 other photos.... You will need to use your camera to remove the DPOF tags on the first 10 photos while tagging the additional 5 photos. If you don't, and you tell the printer to print the DPOF photos you will end up with 15 photos (the original ten plus the additional 5). You can verify this by inserting the memory card back into the camera and see if the DPOF tags are still on the original 10 photos you had selected.
I bought the Epson Picturemate Printer for my husband for his birthday, along with a Canon digital camera. This printer is fantastic. The pictures are actually better than the ones we received from the drugstore developer. We have used this photo printer over and over for instant pictures to give to friends and family of special occasions and fun shots that were captured.
I have not used my digital camera as much as I would have liked to due to the print quality of printing at home. I have tried several printers and was unhappy until I got this one. It's great! Photo lab quality, easy operation, durable, dependable. wonderfull!
I got this printer for my wife (she's something of a technophobe) to get her to use her digital camera more. The results were fantastic and still coming. Our pictures are finally getting out of the computer and into photo albums, frames, and cards to the grandparents.
The supply packages make it very easy to keep the printer supplied and running. My over skeptical eyes thought the pictures were a little grainy until I compared them to what we were getting from the photo labs. This printer easily matches 4x6 results from professional labs. I have no problems recommending this printer.
It is a little slow on a per print basis, but it is easy to queue up a lot of photos and just let it print away while you go on to something else. The screen of the deluxe printer is worth the extra price, it is much easier to select photos from the screen than from contact sheets printed on the non-deluxe version.
This PictureMate is a real beauty! Small and portable its a great easy way to quick print your digital photos. You can print one or all, edit and crop (on a small screen) and just quickly print directly from your memory stick. No worrying about page and size and paper set-up - sooo easy and picture quality is great. They come out dry and clear; no smudging and good color. Highly recommended!!!!
This product does everything it says and more. The quality is outstanding. At first my husband was mad with this purchase because we have the Epson 777. When I printed the photos from the Deluxe Picture mate and mixed them in with ones from CVS and Costco. He could not tell the difference. The Disney frames are brilliant and when printed with the photos, they add so much to the scrap book. I love this printer. It is easy, cheap to use and I have my pictures NOW. No driving, no standing in lines. The amazon reviews were corrected about this product.
Great Quality. 4.50 stars. The only thing I wish the printer had (unless I have not found it yet) is a function to "Select certain" pictures off of a memory card and them print them (to basically tell the Epson exactly which pitures I want (program the printer) before I print them out so I dont have to keep coming back to the printer..... All I have found is "Print a selectable range" of pictures like from 5-15 or print certain photos "one at a time". I am not using a computer with this printer. I am taking pics on my camera and then use the card directly in the printer. very simple.
Great little printer other than this. Mabye I have not found this feature yet? It would be great to pop in a card of say 200 pictures and then select 10 of them (before pressing the print button) and have those 10 print out instead of printing one by one and having to keep coming back to the printer!
This little printer does one thing and does it very well, it prints pictures. I bought it for my wife to print her photos. I find that I'm using it more than her!
THE BEST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE RECENTLY. I AM AN AVID PHOTO PERSON. THIS EPSON PRINTS PICTURE AS GOOD AS THE PHOTO LAB. IT WAS SO IMPRESSIVE THAT MY DAUGHTER ALSO PURCHASED ONE FROM AMAZON.
Without getting all technical this printer is fabulous. Easy to use for the beginer to the experienced. Pictures come out beautiful, price is great-what more can I say. Good buy.
This is the way I want a photo printer to work.
Works as advertised. It delivers beautiful output directly from camera flash memory cards, plus it prints nicely from a computer via USB. The color accuracy is the best I've ever achieved from any photo printer, especially when printing directly from flash memory. The inkjet cartridge lasts longer than the paper that comes with it, so having some extra Epson glossy photo paper will get you some extra prints.
It doesn't read RAW files, I'd like to see that added in the next version.
The color LCD display is fine, however I wouldn't mind closer zoom steps for cropping, sometimes the zoom in steps jump a little too much, so you end up compromising between too close or too far, same thing with the position of the crop frame, these are minor issues and wouldn't stop me from highly recommending this unit to anyone.
Well done Epson!
I bought this printer recently and I love it! Very easy to figure out and prints great pictures. I wish it had a red eye reducer or something as I do not have a computer to hook up to. But, it crops pics and the quality of the cropped pics look almost as good as the full picture. I would also suggest if you are going to buy this printer, buy it from Amazon because I purchased this in a store and paid more for it :( But I am glad I got it and think its great. Highly recommend it.
My husband bought this printer for me for Christmas. WOW, WOW, WOW!! I did A LOT of painstaking research for the how's, why's and how-to's of just about every similar printer out there. THIS ONE HAS IT ALL!! Top quality, ease and sleek design....this is the one you want!! Save yourself a lot of time trying to decide which one to get... buy this printer. You will not be disappointed.
Produces excellent photos if you want a quick way to print them without using a PC Although you can also connect to the PC. And being portable makes it fun to have at a party. Does everything the PC can do.
This printer is great. The prints are very clear. Everyone I have shown the pictures to say they cannot tell the difference between mine and a professional developer of film. It is very easy to use either with my PC or as a stand-alone. Thank you for a great product.
This is a great printer. I am an HP fan and have been for a long time... but this Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition Photo Printer is fantastic! When you buy this be sure to buy the optional Battery... then just take this printer along where ever you go and you'll be the life of the party. The Quality is fantastic! The ink cartridge prints many more photos than advertised (A nice change indeed).
The operation is simple and very straight forward (My seven year-old Daughter just loves it)
With so many options built into this printer you may never hook it up to a computer. I can not praise this printer enough! Bravo Epson!
I purchased this printer solely to replace my similar HP printer with the intent of printing from my Powerbook (vs. wintel). Borderless prints are not possible, even after loading the latest driver.
This prints out great quality pictures. I was not disappointed. The ability to see and fix pictures directly on this is great. However, don't try using anything but epson paper - the quality is severly compromised.
This item is simple and a joy to use with my 4 yr old granddaughter who loves the borders. Thank you for this outstanding product.
I received this as a holiday gift and couldn't be happier. It's super easy, portable, QUIET and offers an add-on battery option for even more portability. I'm happy that it has a screen to view your pix, but I do wish that this particular model offered a 5x7 print option. However, I wouldn't risk choosing another and possibly not be as happy with the unit overall as I am with this. Sending enlargements to a professional lab is fine and I doubt I would even see any quality difference between their prints and my Epson prints. I would highly recommend!
I have always been a big fan of Epson. Top notch quality with great pricing. This little guy certainly does NOT dissapoint! Twice as fast as the previous model with UNBEATABLE picture quality(and an LCD to boot!). I honestly cannot find a single defect with the prints this thing produces. There are times it surpasses prints "professionally" processed at a retail store (I have done numerous comparisons from SEVERAL professional photo processing prints.) The cost per print is a lowly $.29 a photo as you buy a 100 pack of paper with enough ink for at least 100 prints in a nice small little box for $28.99(at most retail places). The interface is very easy to use with a couple of nice features added, such as slideshow mode and Disney borders. Epson again has hit a home run with the PictureMate Deluxe!
I just wanted to join in and add to the other reviews. This printer is a pleasure. It saves the time and expense of running to CVS to print photos. The quality is outstanding. It is easy to use, whether it is with the memory card, USB to computer or even camera to printer. As another review stated, it does not have red eye feature, I would suggest connecting your camera via USB to the printer first, adjusting the red eye through your camera (if feature is available on your camera) and then printing. In addition, if anyone has a Sam's Club nearby, you can pick up the picturemate photo pack for a great price. The pack gives you 270 premium glossy sheets with 2 replacable ink cartridges for only $52.00.
I decided that it was time to purchase a dedicated photo printer, because quite honestly, printing them out from the computer got to be a pain.
I have software that will allow photo enhancement, cropping, all that stuff, BUT sitting down and doing it takes a lot of time and patience. (not to mention the photo paper that ended up in the trash!)
This printer gets my vote hands down as the easiest thing to use right out of the box that I have ever purchased. Even if you don't have the instructions (or don't actually READ them) you can be up and running in less than 10 minutes. I printed pictures that had been in the card in my cameras since our vacation in october, baby pictures of my (then) newborn granddaughter (she's 16 months old now) plus various family get togethers, with no trouble at all. AND they turned out better than ones that I did from the same cards on my printer attached to my PC. (4 color cartridges on the printer vs 6 colors in the picturemate)
The screen makes it very easy to crop and zoom in, the acid test is being able to zoom in on a section of a picture, print that section as a 4x6 photo, and have it come out as good or better than the original size. This printer did that without even breaking a sweat!
Ths printer was worth every cent I paid for it, and I must second the comment by an earlier poster, the refill cost is less than other photo printers. That's where the true cost of prints lie.
I know that this new addition to my Epson family of printers will produce wonderful photos for me for a long time to come.
This photo printer is so easy to use and the pictures are very clear. Had mine up and running in about ten minutes. Sure beats my old photo printer hands down.
My husband and I received this printer as a gift for christmas this year. What a wonderful gift! We have a great digital camera, but we just store our pics on the computer and haven't had hard copies before. Now, I'm a printing monster. The pictures are so much better than Wal-mart and just a hair more expensive to print. I have to say, though, that I prefer the Epson Premium Glossy paper to the paper included in the print pack. I've printed both with just the memory card and through the USB cable from the computer, and both ways are very easy. I do prefer just using the memory card, b/c I can't quite figure out the cropping using the computer. But that's probably operator error. Definitely reccommend this product.
I got the HP375 last year for Christmas. The only reason I asked for the HP instead of the Epson is because at the time, the HP had the viewing screen and the Epson did not. I thought Epson had the superior product but lack of a viewing screen was a deal breaker for me. I knew it was only a matter of time before Epson came out with a model containing a viewing screen so when my dad asked my advice on which printer to purchase for my mom this Christmas, I eagerly directed him to the Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition. At first, mom was thrilled with the printer until I suggested that she use the red eye removal option before printing a picture of my niece. After searching the owner's manual AND every menu on the printer, we were both surprised and highly disappointed to find that the Epson DOES NOT HAVE A RED EYE REMOVAL FEATURE. Mom is now considering returning the Epson and buying the HP which DOES have the red eye removal feature. Now I feel kind of bad for recommending this product to my dad. I never thought to check for this feature, I just assumed it was there. One good thing is that I no longer feel like I missed out on something because I didn't wait for the Epson Viewer Edition.
I just received this printer but my first impressions are very positive. The prints I've made so far have been great. My only complaint so far is the LCD screen. The picture display on the screen is on the fuzzy side which makes it difficult to determine what editing the photo may need. That means I usually have to preview and edit it on my computer first, which is inconvenient at times.
i got this exact printer for christmas and let me me tell you its awesome!!!!
you have the option to do many things thing to your picture such as black and white or sepia or boarders(they have some nice ones to)
and the actuall printing process is quick about like 40 seconds(or around that time) and when it comes out you dont have to worry about the ink being wet and getting it on yourself or ruining the picture because i thought that at first, but when i touched it, it was dry and no smudge or mess!!
and the fact that it reads ur memory cards is great.
you can just take a pic and pop ur memory card into the printer and there you go!! you can print it if ya really want to.
plus it supports ALOT of memory cards so no matter what kind of camera or what kind of memory card you have you will be able to print.
altough i dont own the battery for it yet i plan to get it because you can bring your printer with you and also make sure to get the case for it(they have one that was especially made for this version)
i loved this printer and i hope you get it because evrything about it is superb
good luck

I have only had for 1 day, set up was easy and print quality is geat so far. I wrote because I needed tp refute an earlier review which said memory cards above 512mb could not be read. This is untrue, I popped in my 1gb sd card and the printer showed all photos and was able to print with no problem (without the computer).
I am so impressed by the quality of the photos. This is definitely worth the small investment. I have recommended this printer to my friends and I definitely recommend it to ALL! Please don't even think twice, just buy it.
I just purchased this little printer for my birthday and couldn't be more pleased. It's compact, portable, offers multiple functions, and produces outstanding pictures. The price per photo is as cheap as WalMart or CVS. I was so impressed with this photo printer that I bought another one for my father-in-law for Christmas. I highly recommend the PictureMate Deluxe!
I Received the Epson Picturemate Deluxe photo printers This morning via UPS. What deliverly service! I ordered the printers less than two days ago. Excatly what I wanted and I saved over $100 plus tax over local prices. Thanks Amazon.
The print quality is fantastic but there needs to be more versatility. I wasn't able to select 2 different photos and print 5 copies of that arrangement. I also was unable to rotate photos using the viewer. In addition, the seek time from my CM card is pretty slow. They might need to bump up the onboard memory.
I still think that the unit has great quality but does'nt allow the user many creative options.
My wife had been nagging me to print out the thousands of digital pictures I have taken, so I figured I try this little thing out. I have a large format Epson as well as a couple of HP photosmarts, but as everyone who prints knows, it is a real hassle to fire them up and get prints. This little gadget easily and quickly makes 4x6's better than I have ever seen, including the local photolab. Bright, clear, sharp, and glossy. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have had no problem printing right from my 1 gig sd card.
I totally agree with all the other glowing reviews... great photo quality, even better than that of the website I used to upload to and get pictures by mail. Colors are truer and whites are whiter. Probably cheaper in the long run to print at home using this great little machine, when you take into account shipping or driving to a store to pickup. Oh, and it was super-easy to set up... took less than 15 minutes to unpack it and get it printing from Adobe Photoshop, and it interfaces perfectly!
The quality is fantastic. Only complaint is that the printer is a little slow. Otherwise, it's simple to use, the colors do not smear and photo resolution is very close to any photo development center.
This printer does have great picture quality for a little guy and the print pack including ink and paper is very convient but beware this printer doesn't read memory cards above 512MB, that means you have to use a computer or your camera to set up, edit and print pics, which makes the deluxe no better than the regular picturemate since you can't use the lcd screen or any of the built in options. in conclusion if your using a memory card 512MB or smaller I recommend this printer if not than there's no need to spend extra money on the deluxe. Hope this helped since I did alot of homework before buying this item but found no info on memory card capacity not even on Epson's website.
I am an avid photographer who always and I guess still prefer to use film However, come to modern age, the digital medium has come a long way and in most cases replaced film in many aspects.
After buying my 7.1 Canon G6, I wanted to have something to print 4x6's on just as I would have in the lab. I'm not all about keeping them on a disc and seeing it in my monitor. There's something about holding the art in your hand and easily showing it to someone. Well, I sought to buy a printer to do only that- Job specific.
After reading various reviews, the Epson Picturemate Deluxe as well as it's counterpart, the standard Picturemate (without the viewer)seemed to top most categories. I bought the deluxe version and was absolutely impressed.
This is really a great printer. I actually used it without connecting to the pc and it works like a charm. It does tend to cut more of the top and bottom than I would like, but that's a 4x6 for ya. My camera takes great pics and it's really nice to see all that resolution come to life.
I don't have the battery for it, but will get it soon. I might want to take this baby with me on a trip. The viewer is great and it allows you to crop your image. So if your pic is being cut too much or more than you'd like, you can select crop and move it to allow more of the top or bottom. It also allows zooming which turned out great on many of my pics. Though, I did notice some degredation the more zoomed in I was which is understandable.
I still love film, but this digital business is quite the competitor, especially when your prints look like they came from a lab.
Another great thing Epson came up with is to sell the ink with the glossy paper. It high quality paper (100 sheets)and will last you about the length of the supply of ink. For me, it's actually made 130 prints on one cartridge, though I think that's unusual. I had to go buy the paper which was rather expensive, about 17 bucks for the same 4x6. Oh well...
I highly reccomend. I've used Epson in the past and am glad I went with it again. (...)
This printer makes digital printing a snap. It is easy, fast, and the picture quality is excellent. The prints are inexpensive at 29 cents each. It is fun to use, and I have been taking more pictures since I bought it.
I have tried many photo printers, but this surpasses them all.
Takes a few seconds longer to print out-worth the wait!! Some advice though-do not let one photo lay on top of another for at least 15 minutes-they will stick. Very portable and light weight-can take it anywhere. Epson has not made a case to buy yet, so keep your box. (it has a handle for carrying) Don't hesitate to buy-pricey, but better quality and ink, paper are very reasonable and brings the price below store photos!
I load my memory card, start scrolling and find a picture I want to print, I print it, and then when I want to go back to the pictures, I lands be back to picture 1 in the list not where I last was. Now I have over 300 pictures in my card, so this is a real problem having to scroll from the beginning for each selection. Am I doing something wrong? Seems there must be a way to select a picture and then go back to the list where you last were. Otherwise the machine is wonderful.
I love this printer. I have looked at so many printers, my head is spinning. I almost bought the regular Epson picturemate last year when it came out, but did not because it lacked certain features I wanted. The deluxe version has them all. Great product, great photos and not too expensive overall. I take a ton of pictures and consider myself an amateur photographer and avid scrapbooker (really like the half page size and wallets when you want to fit as many pictures on a page as possible). This is perfect for all of my needs. Editing features are great. The option to take it with you to parties is a great option as well. I also like the bluetooth adapter feature. I use it with my ibook. My mom purchased the HP 375 and is very happy with it. I am happier with the Epson. The quality of pictures (more colors than the HP) is better. I have had 2 other Epson printers that were/are great, but soooo slow. Not the case with this little guy. Prints are done and dry very quickly...no smudges...The Epson paper is also the best I have found...
I took the printer out of the box, plugged in battery, toner
cartridge, paper and a SD card without looking at any
instructions. The printer booted up, asked a few questions
and began printing great photos! I work in technology so one
can assume I can handle simple technology but I took the
printer to a family reunion. I let eveyone there use it with
only minimal instruction, "there's the power-on button" and
without any problems. The fun part was taking the Epson
"boom box" out of the carton at the family gathering,
explaining that it was a cordless photo printer and seeing
the looks of amazement. Great product and I recommend it
over the Canon portable photo printers for 4x6 format.
I've returned the HP375b printer for this one, and what an amazing printer. No more going to a photo lab or uploading to online photo labs, this 6 color ink printer produces stunning pictures everytime. I got a battery with this printer, and it is amazing how convenient it is to just take the printer and the camera whereever I want to be, then just sit and print. As they've indicated, the pictures are smudge and waterproof, making it easier to handle right after printing them. The 6 color ink cartridge is a single unit, and it is a cinch to change them when needed.
The printer has a USB port in the back that can be used to connect to a PC or other USB devices for backup or from which to read the pictures to print. I've never had the chance to backup the pictures from memory cards to a CD-writer, as my memory cards are at least 1GB each and have found the CD writers to be past its time. However, the printer did not have any problem reading from other USB flash cards or from my 60Gig portable hard drive. A support to write to a DVD writer would be a plus with possibly from next firmware release of this printer.
Only inconvenient thing the others may find is that the Pict Bridge connection is located on the back of the printer, rather than the front, where it is more convenient to handle the wires. I, however, found that it is more convenient to just take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into the printer cardreader.
I don't like wires, and all my devices, including my laptops, are portable, so this printer is a great addition to my overall system. This is a must have item if you love taking pictures, and a battery is a must have accessory.
This product is incredible. I know photography, and I'm fussy about quality- these pictures honestly look like they were professionally developed. Plus, with the new color screen on the delux model, it is SO easy to look through your pictures and decide which to print. It's also incredibly easy to zoom in and crop the pictures before you print them! If you have a digital camera, you NEED this printer so that your pictures dont just sit in a folder on your computer, yet you dont have to go out to print them. A must buy!
That means I usually have to preview and edit it on my computer first, which is inconvenient at times.
i got this exact printer for christmas and let me me tell you its awesome!!!!
you have the option to do many things thing to your picture such as black and white or sepia or boarders(they have some nice ones to)
and the actuall printing process is quick about like 40 seconds(or around that time) and when it comes out you dont have to worry about the ink being wet and getting it on yourself or ruining the picture because i thought that at first, but when i touched it, it was dry and no smudge or mess!!
and the fact that it reads ur memory cards is great.
you can just take a pic and pop ur memory card into the printer and there you go!! you can print it if ya really want to.
plus it supports ALOT of memory cards so no matter what kind of camera or what kind of memory card you have you will be able to print.
altough i dont own the battery for it yet i plan to get it because you can bring your printer with you and also make sure to get the case for it(they have one that was especially made for this version)
i loved this printer and i hope you get it because evrything about it is superb
good luck

I have always wanted to purchase a 4X6 dedicated photo printer, but I would doubt the quality of the picture the printer would put out. This printer truly makes quality photos that you would find in a photo lab. The camera I am using is a 5 MP HP Photosmart 945. So far, I have not run into any problems with the printer. The colors are very sharp and bright. The borderless print option is available. Be careful when you print out a picture, the printer will automatically draw a box on the print area of a picture (a 4X6 gets cropped a little bit); if you have an important part of the picture on an edge, make sure you zoom in X1 (click the + magnifying glass once)and move the crop box accordingly. would say that the only problem with the printer is it is noisy. Since I am only concerned About all but a few of the borders you can add to a photo are Disney characters borders.
Have patience, each picture does take about 70-80 seconds or so to print. You can submit more than one picture per order so you can leave the printer alone for a while if you need to print a lot of photos.
Keep in mind that the printer only comes with a starter ink and paper set. It would be best to buy the full 100 picture pack at the time you purchase the printer so you can have no interruptions when the starter ink runs out of color (you know how unreliable these starter packs are).
Also, if you are planning to hook up this printer to your computer, you must purchase a USB printer cable. I was shocked to find out that the cable wasn't included in the box. Since the cost of a USB printer cable is steep, I am using the same cable between my main printer and this Epson (I switch the cable between the two). Make sure you have another cable on hand and you have a free USB port on your computer if you don't want to go through this hassle.
I received this printer for Christmas (yesterday) and found the prints exceptionally clear, crisp and beautiful. I am thrilled with the results and highly recommend this printer for its compactness, ease of use, and quality.
We recently bought this printer, and have been very pleased with the product. It prints very hight quality photos, and has a lot of editing options available, so you don't have to go to your computer first to edit. One drawback is, when we use a 1 gigabyte jmp drive, it searches the whole thing for photos, and this can take a while. At first we thought it wasn't working, but it found all the photos, even searching all the subdirectories.
The printer is very easy to set up and very versatile, given that it prints up to 4x6 inch photos. So far, we're quite happy with it.
I originally bought the 1st Epson PictureMate (the one without the nifty viewing screen.) In the year and a half that I have owned it, I have been totally impressed with the quality of pictures I printed. All of my pictures turned out vibrant & beautiful. The only downside was continually printing out proof sheets, which wasted a lot of ink & paper. When the PictureMate Deluxe Viewer came out, I was jealous. Needless to say I sold my old one so that I could buy this one--that's how great the quality is and that's how devoted to this product I am. My new Photomate is still awesome, only now I have this wonderful screen to pick and choose my pics and I don't have to waste paper & ink. I recommend this printer 100%!! You won't be sorry and you'll have the best pictures around that will last you a lifetime.
I have only printed about 30 pictures, all turned out great. Then I print 5 pictures (I walk away and come back) the pictures are terrible! So, I have to clean the prints heads and align and all that. Print again, still terrible. Repeat all the steps and then I print the 5 and the quality is good again. Then tonight I turn it on two print two pictures (again, i walk away and come back) now my pictures are very poor quality again!!! I go to clean the print heads and check the nozzles and all that, and now it says I am out of ink!!!!!
It is supposed to print approx. 100 prints from one cartridge! I count what I have left, I have 48 sheets. I only printed 52 and about 11/12 of them were either bad or doing the nozzle checks and alignments! This is no exceptable! It cost me approx. $.60 per picture and if you only count the good ones, then it cost me about $.75.
Think twice before making this purchase. Remember when I bought mine i paid $249.99 plus the extra cartridge and photo paper, so I am far away from paying for this thing yet and now I need more ink!
If I was to do it again, I would not. I emailed epson and got no support or help, just telling me to replace ink then!
