Review: USB cable not included by vendor
by: Anat on date: September 27, 2005
Well, I can't really tell you what I think of the performance of this printer, because we just took it out of the box, were excited to test it out and print our first picture, and the USB cable to connect the printer with the computer (an odd one) is not included in the box! Why Epson do you annoy your customers like this? Is it really worth it for a few dollars worth of cable?

Review: So far, so good
by: Benjamin M. Orchard on date: October 18, 2005
The bonus here is the included negative scanner. I didn't buy this from Amazon (sorry, someone else beat the price), but I am pleased with it.

The other reviewer (at this time) complained about the lack of usb cables--but I'm not entirely sympathetic. First, this is standard practice for Epson. If you didn't know it wasn't there, then you probably haven't bought an Espon before this. Second, there is actually a good reason for this: most people are not buying a first printer at this point, and pretty much all cables are the same (as long the connectors fit, you're good to use it). This cuts down on their costs, which hopefully means a slightly less expensive printer. I personally have 3 or four cables for this printer, and don't want any more.

As far as quality goes--I don't have any complaints. It does borderless (edge-to-edge) printing on cardstock (doesn't support it on regular paper) without any problems, which is one of the things I look for in a printer. It also doesn't show any banding or striping, which is good for printing photos.

Memory stick support is good (I have a Sony camera that uses Memory Stick), and works well.

Overall, a solid printer. As long as the print heads stay clean, I'll be happy.

Review: I think it's a much better printer then HP!
by: B. Faber on date: January 4, 2006
My last 2 printers were HP printers and I never had more problems with my printers. I finally started looking for another printer. I chose this one because alot of reviews said it was a good printer for the money.
I too was alittle upset with the USB cord as my old printer had the bigger wider head on it and this one had that smaller one so I ended up running back to the store to get one. Minor but just so you know ahead of time.

I haven't done alot of printing yet since I only have had it for a month but so far I like the quality!

Review: Stylus CX7800
by: J. Demick on date: January 1, 2006
This printer, being my 4th one, is great! I started off with an Epson 740i on my Mac, went to a Lexmark Z52 (awesome talk feature), then went back to Epson for the CX5200. I had to part with that one because of a head problem, but this one is the best one so far! I love the borderless prints, and they look like you just visited the print shop! The scanning and the PictBridge (memory card/digital camera cards) are both very useful and it also includes a device for scanning negatives and slides! Although it doesn't include a USB cable to hook it up to your computer, if you previously had a printer with a USB cable, then just use the previous USB cable that came with the previous printer. I used the one from the CX5200 (although short), it works great! Cartridges are slightly expensive, but a great machine for anyone needing a great all-in-one printer!

Review: Can't rate yet- need to pick up a USB cable!
by: H. Swierczek on date: January 7, 2006
I received this as a gift, and I was all excited and ready to hook it up. I was following the instructions step by step until I got to the part where it says to connect the USB cable. That would be the USB cable that ISN'T included with the printer. No where on the box, on Epson's website, or in the manual does it mention that you need to provide the USB cable yourself. The manual reads like it should be there. I was frantically looking in the box for something I missed, only to realize that I wasn't mising anything. Epson was just too cheap to include a (...)cable that probably wouldn't cost them nearly that much to include. But it looks cool, so I'll be dragging my butt to Radio Shack tomorrow for the cable. (It also doesn't tell you what kind of USB cable you need. You're supposed to be psychic I guess.)

Review: Great Printer, great value

Been using the printer for about a month, I've scanned, copied, printed, and all work so very well with this. Glad we got it.

Review: Works
by: May Twelve on date: March 9, 2006
Ok, SO I didn't give it five, because although it was easy to install and prints fine and all, it is pretty slow (even with the high speed usb cardbus pcmica card from compusa)and loud! Also, I can't figue out how to edit the pictures I've scanned. It only lets me select number of copies and choose between 4X6 or 5X7 or letter size. This is even with the restoration mode on. Otherwize, it is great for regular print jobs, and love the slide scan (even though it takes forever). Finally, the pictures come out looking very good. Never have to go to kinkos again (i don't think!)Epson doesn't recyle their ink into paper at office depot like HP does, so I will miss the recycled paper bonus.

Review: Reliable and works magic.
by: Stacy Do on date: February 1, 2006
I bought this scanner because I needed to scan old family pictures that are starting to lose their color. However, I got more than a scanner. The programs that come with the scanner can fix old pictures and the printer works great too! The only thing that I would change about the scanner is the noise that it makes when it prints. It is a loud printer. Overall, I enjoy the printer very much.

Review: So Far, Very Pleased w/ Epson Stylus...
by: MISSunderstood on date: March 22, 2006
So far I am thoroughly pleased w/ the performance of my new Epson Stylus CX7800 All-in-One. The print quality is simply amazing; I printed out a photo on regular paper instead of photo paper, not even on the best quality print, and the picture was good enough to frame! (I did)... This printer prints fast, and it is so easy to use, especially as I am terrible w/ technology this is really a handy gadget. Even though it cost me a pretty penny I feel this product was well worth the money I paid and more, I'd recemmend this to anyone whether they are good w/ technology or not simply because of ease of use and quality. The Stylus is a bit big and bulky (ok, that is an understatement!) but once again: quality. I havn't even had time to use this printer enough to see all the cool stuff it does w/ photos, but hope to use it more for that in the future. It more than covers my basic printing needs, though!
The only bad thing I can say about this printer is that I bought one originally and it worked after being set up... Then I tried to use it maybe a week later and it wouldn't turn on! Ran some experiments and my power outlet was fine, my USB cord was fine, so something w/ the printer was definately defective, probably the little notch where the power cord hooks into (I said I'm not a techie, and I meant it!) which I was told by my more technologically oriented friends is quite flimsy for such an expensive product.
Other than this flaw I can't say anything bad about said product. I sent the first one back for a replacement, and the new(est) one so far is going good. If I have any more problems I will be mad, but Epson has good customer support. Overall, from what I've seen, I rate this product 5 star.

Review: Great Printer
by: opa on date: April 12, 2006
Have had my printer only a couple of days but love it already. With the built-in scanning features I am able to get rid of my old UMAX document scanner and my HP Photo scanner.

Other reviews complain of the noise - maybe my ears are older, but this the noise level of this printer is less than any printer I have own, other than a laserjet.

My only complaint is that it does not come with OCR software.

Review: Good qaulity printer
by: PNH on date: May 17, 2006
This printer has great qaulity printing, scanning, and fucntional tools. The ink repacements can be expensive since the replacements are about 75$. This is my third epson and each of the last ones have had an issue with the head that makes them unusable. At 80$ repair fees it seems more logical to buy a new one every 3 years. Here is hoping for 4 or more this time.

I hope they include OCR in their next software revision for the scanning and direct color and BW coping is a nice feature. Word of caution head cleaning uses ink; To keep your epson printing right print something every so often if you dont use it on a regular basis.

I gave it 5 stars because price vs qaulity you cant beat this one.

For you people who dont have a USB cables, most manufacturers do not include batteries or industry standard cables. Reviewers are dropping a quality assesment review of a product because they were not smart enough to buy a cable at the store or even ask.

Review: Really pleased so far
by: Debbie Zan on date: May 15, 2006
Bought this all-in-one and with the rebate, [...] which is incredible for the features. If you follow the set up instructions to a tee (not hard), this unit works great from the get-go. I am very impressed with the print quality. This computer does not require techno-freaks to figure it out, which is a big plus, and in our case, installation was a breeze. I haven't had it long, but can tell you I have always had great luck with Epson, and it looks like they have done a great job on a printer that compares favorably with much more expensive models from other manufacurers.

Review: A message from the future
by: Flor Emert on date: June 7, 2006
Today's date is Jun 7, 2006 but I will pretend I am writing this review in Jun 2007. If you read the reviews of any epson printer product made in the past 4 years you will know that they clog, so as I am writting this review in 2007 my once well rounded epson cx7200 inks heads have clogged. I am out of the warranty period. I cannot find a 800 number for epson. They have told me that I need to run a head cleaning, so I go out and buy some inks for 60 dollars, then I run the cleaning and still nothing happens, the printer still prints out blank pages. They say to run it again and again which I do. They have told me I need to purchase a new one (they offer me a discount off 10 dollars of their latest one) or have this one repaired. PEOPLE..... DO NOT BUY EPSON PRINTERS learn your lesson!

Review: Epson deserves to go out of business
by: ARK on date: July 12, 2006
Epson gave me a good deal (I thought) on a CX7800 to replace a CX5400 because the CX5400 starting giving problems in less than a year. The CX5400 printed fine but used lots of ink until an ink cartridge got badly jammed up. Didn't take long for the CX7800 ink cartridge to jam and Epson replaced the machine because even with tech service help the jam couldn't be cleared. The replacement CX7800 is even worse. It thinks the paper is jammed when there is no paper jam. The small black cartridges quickly run out of ink and they are more costly than the color cartridges! When I try to clear ink jams in the black cartridge it also wastes ink for the three color cartridges! I think I'll put my old Canon BJC-4550 back into service because I never had trouble with it. I tried Epson due to the separate color cartridges and the multi-function capability but the good features are not worth all the trouble.

Review: Ink Cartridges are a sore spot.
by: Samuel R. Hoskins on date: July 29, 2006
Nice all around features EXCEPT, the ink cartridges frequently clog and have to be replaced way too often. If I had it to do all over, I would definitely not purchase this printer.

Review: What a disappointment!
by: S. L. Meek on date: August 4, 2006
Do not buy this printer! I spent hours working on a paper I need for class and then I tried to print it out...it's only text, black and white. My blue ink is out so I CANNOT PRINT!!!!! With the high price of their ink, I don't have a stock room of color ink sitting around since I generally only print text. HUGE DESIGN FLAW!!!! I will never buy another Epson!

Review: Epson - Good Value for the Money!
by: Christine M. Brenner on date: September 17, 2006
We have the the all-in-one for several months--no problems yet! :)
We do have the unit in computer desk and it is located on the bottom shelf--dark area--initially it was difficult to replace paper in the unit, but now that we understand how the guide slides operate we are fine--direction booklet was not very helpful in this area. Print quality is great and knocks out multiple pages fairly quickly! Happy with quality of copies too! Nice bright colors--have yet to use it for photos. Overall, we feel we made a good investment by buying this Epson Stylus CX7800 All-In-One

Review: Serious quality problems
by: A Consumer on date: September 4, 2006
This is the 2nd time I had this printer. First time it broke within 6 months, and it was still under warranty, so I got a replacement. The new one again malfunctioned after 6 months. The prints came out with lines, and certain colored text only show up in pieces, even after repeated head-cleaning and with brand new ink cartridges. I'm dissappointed with the quality of the Epson products and would hesitate buying anything by Epson.

Review: Great Printer for the money

Besides the loud start up, this is a great printer. The quality is great for pictures up to an 8x10. I am impressed with it thus far.

Review: Amazing All In One
by: JC on date: September 25, 2006
This printer has been a pleasant surprise- I was skeptical at first to purchase since the reviews are all over the place.

I used the printer to create my wedding "save the dates" and to print addresses on the corresponding envelopes. The lines are crisp, clear and very professional looking. Ultimately, this printer has saved me a lot of money compared to custom wedding stationary!

Also, the scanner is quite intelligent. If you place multiple photos on the glass scan bed, the machine can actually detect each separate image, save it separately and ultimately save a lot of time.

Very pleased with the printer and highly reccomend it.

Review: Mixed review
by: Barbsjemms on date: September 29, 2006
I have nothing to add regarding the features of this product, except the quality of prints far exceeded my expectations out of the box. I was pleased with this printer until it began to malfunction. After just a couple of months the paper intake roller began to pull harder on one side than the other causing the paper to wrinkle and jam. The good news is, Epson customer service is top notch! After attempting (and failing) to troubleshoot the problem, the very polite tech support guy is sending me a replacement by Fedex.

Did I buy a faulty machine? Probably. But the fact that Epson is willing to stand behind their products, no questions asked, speaks volumes to me. Wish me luck with the next one!

Review: GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE MONEY
by: William J. Mccord on date: October 14, 2006

Review: Excellent Printer

Very good printer. Epson makes a good line. This model is very smooth, prints bright colors, only downfall is it's loud. But then again, maybe they all are, this is my first one.

Review: pure frustration
by: D. Woodruff on date: December 23, 2006
Epson has designed their printers to malfunction without frequent replacement of their own extremely over-priced ink cartridges. If you try a more affordable after market cartridge you will need to send your printer to Epson repair for servicing. Another of the many examples of the joys of Epson: if the yellow cartridge, for example, begins to get low the unit will stop functioning, even if you only need to print in black. This is a real treat late at night when you're facing a deadline. I will NEVER buy another printer, or any device for that matter, from Epson again. If there was an option for zero stars - this would get it.

Review: No!
by: D. Wilkerson on date: December 27, 2006
I bought one of these in March '06, and it was dead by August. The replacement that the store gave me in August died in December. The store no longer sells the printer, so I got a refund. The quality of the prints was fine, but the problem was that the paper would not feed through the machine. It would pull the paper through on one side but not the other, resulting in constant paper jams. Extremely frustrating. In both cases, it finally got to the point where it would not feed paper through at all.

Review: Epson CX7800 for cake decorating
by: Susan M. Coomes on date: January 5, 2007
I purchased the Epson Stylus CX7800 to be used in cake decorating. I also had to purchase special ink cartridges from another vender in order to print in edible ink. I have done 5 cakes in the past 2 months and it prints out very nicely on my edible paper.
Currently there are only two cartridges that you can purchase with edible ink and one fits this printer. The convenience of having the scanner attached to the printer is also helpful in getting the picture onto a computer to be adjusted for height and color. The only problem is the fact that I cannot use the regular ink cartridges to print documents and then go back to the edible cartridges, but that is an issue with the safety of human consumption not with the printer.

Review: Don't expect any good support from Epson. Period.
by: Matt W. on date: February 20, 2007
Windows Vista has been post-RTM for months now, and Epson still doesn't have a driver for this product? Pathetic.

Review: Mostly Good But...
by: Fred Rayworth on date: January 13, 2007
I've had this printer for over a year now and for the most part, it works fine. It has just about everything I want in a scanner/copier/printer. It even includes a negative and slide scanner which is a great thing to have.

Occasionally, the printer heads plug up. In fact, quite often, so I have to run multiple clean cycles to get them clean.

My biggest beef is the ink cartridges. They are expensive and the most annoying thing is that even if you specify "black ink only" the color cartridges drain just the same. And, when any cartridge goes out, you have to replace it or the printer will not work at all. I print mostly black ink text but that still means I have to replace all three of the color cartridges just to get the black to work. I think this is a deliberate design flaw Epson put in to get you to buy their overpriced ink cartridges.

Despite the annoyances, I really do like this printer. However, if you are into printing text like me, you would be better off with something that doesn't suck up the color ink for no reason!

Review: Pretty slow and scanner light died out...
by: Eric Nakpil on date: February 21, 2007
I should have read the reviews first before I bought this product. I actually read some mediocre reviews after I bought it and before I opened the package so I still had a chance to return it to the store.

The printer is decent and the ink lasts a good enough amount of time but it takes forever....FOREVER....to print sometimes. Suppose you look up directions to someplace you need to go on Mapquest: you hit the print button and you even select draft quality to speed up the process and you hear the printer cycle on. But that is all you hear sometimes...for minutes at a time! The printer does this all the time and it frustrates me the most out of anything in my office.

I bought this AIO because it had a film/slide scanner and I wanted to save space at home. The scanner works okay for this purpose but it takes a long time. If you have hundreds of negatives to scan to archive, it is much better to get a dedicated scanner for that purpose as you will be disappointed with the Epson.

Three months after purchase, the scanner light went out and so did the scan function of the Epson. I called Epson and gave my serial number and they sent out a replacement CX7800 in the mail which arrived in 4 days with new ink to boot! Customer service was very helpful which makes me think this is a common problem. I did not have to send the broken unit back either.

After almost a year with this AIO, I finally bought a home laser printer from HP. I'll let you know how that works out.

Epson CX7800 AIO product gets a C- or D+
Epson Customer Service gets an A though
I wish it were the other way around.

Review: Do NOT buy this printer.
by: Zachariah Lingelbach on date: March 28, 2007
This printer is good if you're going to be printing documents, but don't waste your money. This printer's scanner sucks, I haven't printed out photos yet, but that's the reason why I bought it (for the scanner). I've only had this printer for about a month, and I've only scanned once, and then the scanner would not work. I would get a page filled with gray lines. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. [...]

Review: Not Bad
by: Derrick Montevisto on date: March 7, 2007
With the price of cartridges, you're getting the whole package for another $45. Epson has always been very reliable for me as a printer, the rest is just thrown in stuff, but it's pretty amazing for the price. The scanning of the negatives and printing out big pics is incredible technology for the price. Printers have been disposable for me for years. However, this one I may keep around.

Review: Zero Stars For Epson
by: S. Weber on date: April 10, 2007
My first Epson Stylus the print heads went out 2 weeks before the warranty ran out (fortunately for me). Tech Support (my dime) was real helpful, sent me out a replacement Fed Ex and they didn't want the old one returned to them. Because I only had a couple of weeks on the warranty, they explained that the warranty on the replacement would only be good for 30 days and they suggested I buy an extended warranty for $25, which I did. Replacement printer arrived and it was obviously a used, scratched up piece of work that didn't work from the very beginning, and no ink to get it set up. It refused to take the paper in. Either got the Out of Paper code or Paper Jam code. There was paper loaded and it never even took the paper down in the printer to get it jammed. Called Tech Support (my dime) got an apology and they were sending out another replacement immediately Fed EX. They don't want the old one back. What about that extended warranty? Well that's transferable and all I had to do was call the warranty service and give them the new model number when it arrives. Next replacement arrives (no ink to get it set up). I call to transfer the model number and the support guy was rude, refused to let me transfer it, told me the person I talked to was wrong and I asked him to speak to a supervisor to help me get a solution to my problem. He was as high as I was going to go (said he). There was nothing I could do but purchase another extended warranty. I gave him the name and reference numbers of all the people I had spoken with and was told that he hadn't heard of any of those people. I gave the phone number I'd called & spoke to them, he said there was no such number. When I informed him that it was the number I reached HIM at he said he never called himself at work so had no idea what the number was. The good news was, this was what got me turned over to a supervisor, "David." David was great, fixed me up, apologized to me and life was good. Until today. Once again this replacement printer refused to take the paper in and gives the same codes. I call Tech Support (my dime) the guy asked me the same question 12 times, repeated my answers 12 times and finally, after 35 minutes, I mention we weren't getting anywhere could I speak to a supervisor. He suddenly kicks into gear and says because I'm under warranty they'll send one out immediately Fed Ex all he needs is a credit card number to charge the replacement too and when I return the old one they'll take it off my CC. I told him they've never done this before and I've never given anyone my CC info before. He insisted that this was how it is done and repeated that he needs the info and he'll ship it right out. I tell him I won't give out my CC information without speaking to a supervisor and he hangs up on me. I call tech support again (my dime) and get a real nice gal who's very helpful I'm getting a replacement Fed Ex'd out immediately. I ask if it will come with ink and she assures me all their replacements come with full ink cartridges. She was sending me out a new used printer so I wasn't going to fuss with her.
The time frame of this entire story? One year. Right now I have 3 dead Epson printers in my basement, 2 of them have full brand new ink cartridges in them. I suppose I'm going to tough out my extended warranty, I can't wait to see what they send me next. Everyone I talked to had such heavy accents I can barely understand them, which makes the long distance call longer and the conversation is a communication struggle. Oh, and nobody knows who the heck "David" is. They all say there's service centers in many areas so nobody knows the name of anyone anywhere else to confirm your information.
Never again will I buy any Epson product.

I bought this printer because it was the lowest cost one I could find that makes prints fron 35 MM slides, which it does very well indeed. In spite of the several reviews I've read that pan it's print quality it makes great ones for me. It is a bit slow but but that's no problem for me as it does an excellent job of quality printing and copying plus having a slide capability.

It is also a snap to operate. It's an amazing bargain at the $100 I paid.

Great printer/scanner--when it works. (The CX7800; I apparently wrote another review on the CX6000 page by mistake?!) Does suck ink... but I was able to print 150 full-color letter-size Xmas cards without replacing cartridges for another week afterwards. I am on my second CX7800--the first died after a simple paper jam. The current problem is: I have since upgraded from a Mac G4 to a MacBook Pro Intel-based laptop, and have spent HOURS installing/uninstalling re-downloading, resetting, restarting, etc. to make the recommended "driver" for this printer work, but IT DOES NOT SHOW UP!!! Now I wonder if it really even exists? Epson Support only repeats its same incomplete instructions without addressing the issue. I give up... and am on the lookout for a better solution from any OTHER company. Epson had its chances... and did not deliver.

Oh, and nobody knows who the heck "David" is. They all say there's service centers in many areas so nobody knows the name of anyone anywhere else to confirm your information.
Never again will I buy any Epson product.

Review: No!

Review: Excellent Printer
by: Bee Bee on date: October 29, 2006
Very good printer. Epson makes a good line. This model is very smooth, prints bright colors, only downfall is it's loud. But then again, maybe they all are, this is my first one.

Review: GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE MONEY
by: William J. Mccord on date: October 14, 2006
I have had this product for about a year and have had no problems. It makes great color prints and is easy to use. This is my third EPSON printer and I have found their quality to be excellant.

Printed 2 photos and took it back. Photos from sd card reader were grainy and the scanner photo was even worse
