I've been using this printer over a month. This is Great!!! Fast print, clear texts, and charts. I use this printer for school(I got tons of slides to print out for classes), it works without any loud noise. And scaner and fax work perfectly. I love this printer.

This black and white laser printer serves as a flat-top copier ,color image scanner, and a fax machine. The warm-up time is very short, and printing speed is quite good.

Did I mention that the price is very reasonable as well?

Review: very good product for light/moderate home or home office use, great value for the money

I bought the Canon imageCLASS MF3240 about a month ago, and so far it has exceeded my expectations. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a multifunction device without the need to print in color. If you prefer getting your digital photos printed by an online or in-store photo processor, a laser multifunction is usually the way to go -- since it's a lower cost per page, it's faster, and the output is better quality than an inkjet.

APPEARANCE/CONSTRUCTION:
You can tell that it's a sub-$200 machine by the construction. Don't expect the same kind of solid feel that you'll get from a much more expensive piece of equipment. A few of the plastic parts feel a little flimsy, like the paper tray. But they all seem to work fine, and I don't have any concerns about durability. Unless you're really tough on your office equipment, you should be ok.

The MF3240 isn't the sexiest looking multifunction out there (if you're looking for a great looking device, try the Canon PIXMA MP830, which uses inkjet technology so you can print in color too). In fact, my wife keeps saying the MF3240 looks like a cooler sitting on the desk. But the buttons are laid out logically on the keypad, and from the investigating I've done into a lot of different multifunction devices, the footprint on this one seems to be a reasonable size.

PERFORMANCE:
So far, so good. If you're really a stickler for the highest output possible -- if you need the most crisp, darkest text and flawless images -- this probably isn't the machine for you. Don't get me wrong...the output is very good, borderline excellent. But you can tell that it wasn't printed on a $1,000 heavy-duty laser printer.

This baby is fast! Total time for the first page to arrive in my hand after clicking the Print button (including warmup time) was 13 seconds. It's considerably faster warming up than my old HP laser printer.

It's not the quietest machine I've ever heard, but I wouldn't call it too loud either.

It has a toner saver mode, but I'd call this an annoyance. You're supposed to be able to set the toner saver either directly on the printer control panel or through the printer driver. I've tried a number of times to set up two profiles: one that uses toner saver and another that doesn't. It works sometimes, but other times it'll end up in the wrong mode. Even when I get it to work, I don't notice much of a difference in output between toner saver mode and the regular mode.

I've also been having a minor problem with the fax. I have the MF3240 hooked up to my phone line, and a phone extension hooked into the fax machine. The fax machine is set in Manual mode, so it shouldn't do anything unless I take action on my own. But I've had one or two phone calls on the extension that's hooked up to the fax where the machine hangs up on the person I'm talking to after about 10 minutes! If I can't get this problem to stop, I may end up getting a splitter for the phone line and hooking the phone extension into the line separately.

SOFTWARE:
It comes bundled with a light version of OCR software. I tried it once, and it seemed to recognize every single word on the page I scanned. I was quite impressed -- much better than older versions of OCR I've tried (although I must admit this is the first OCR software I've tried in at least 6-7 years, so I'm sure the technology is much better now).

It also installs a piece of software called Canon Multifunction Toolbox 4.9. This is the most pleasant surprise I've experienced with this printer so far. It allows you to click one button, go through a couple simple settings, and then get a scan and go straight to an e-mail, or straight to a PDF, etc. The smartest feature is that it allows you to pick a target file size, and it'll adjust the resolution to achieve that file size. So it eliminates trying to scan something and then finding out the resulting file is 20MB, then needing to go back and re-scan it at a lower resolution before you e-mail it. You simply pick your target file size (let's say 1MB) and the software will scan your document at the proper resolution to achieve that file size. Very smart!

OVERALL:
Amazon has even knocked ten dollars off the price since I bought it...now it's going for about one hundred fifty bucks...so it's an even better value today. This is a very good multifunction device for light/moderate home or home office use. Given the chance to do it all over, I'd definitely buy the MF3240 again.

Review: Fantastic, but hold off unless the price is lower.
by: J. Miller on date: October 17, 2006
I have had this printer for about 2 months now. I really really love it. The speed is excellent, the scanner, printer and fax work well. Only negative criticism is that it doesn't hold an entire pack of paper at once. It only does about a half of one.

I just wanted to add though, when I bought this, I watched it for a few weeks for pricing it. There were different vendors that would change, and with it, the price. Sometimes it would change five dollars, sometimes twenty or more. I'd just suggest holding off until you feel that the price is low enough for you because it does change (as well as the availability of free shipping).

Review: Great for home or small office
by: J. Booth on date: November 3, 2006
I purchased this unit to replace a slow laser printer and a dying fax machine. It was so inexpensive that I expected it to perform poorly - I was wrong. It works very well. Output is sharp and clean, the copy feature works well. Once you learn how the fax feature works with multiple pages, you shouldn't have any trouble.
It's very fast for the price. Sure, it's a little noisy when printing and I don't care for the manual feed slot (an actual tray would have been nice), but overall, I think this multifunction device is a great value.

Well, it's a deal breaker to me. I guess I should have read the spec's a little closer. Also imortant, the machine did not pick up the incoming dedicated fax calls. Its going back before I mess around with that though. Why build a laser multifunction that you have to fax on a flatbed?

by: C. LI on date: December 21, 2006
Pros:
- Inexpensive (I paid $155.99/free shipping here at Amazon which is amazing considering all the functions I get from this solid machine)
- Good computer printing... it does what a b/w laser printer is supposed to: great on text and ok on graphics. It does a comparable job as my previous HP LJ1100 laser printer. Internal paper tray which holds 250 pages is an improvement over my HP.
- Appropriate scanning result. Good for document archiving purpose. I tried to scan an old color photo and print it in another color inkjet printer. The result is beyond my expectation.
- Copier does what it is supposed to. Pretty easy to operate and configure different settings.

Cons:

I have owned this printer for several months and I am very happy with my purchase. I use it in my home office for general printing (it is fast), copying, scanning and fax.
Pros
Inexpensive, fast printing, easy set-up, excellent copying (including enlargement & reduction) execllent scanning.

Cons
The fax utility is hard to use for incoming faxes. The manual could be more helpful in this area. For example if you put on "Manual" what button(s) do I press when there is an incoming fax. This is not explained in the manual. I do not find the lack of a multipage feeder for the fax an issue. Irecently sent a 20 page document and scanned each one in turn, which stores the pages in memory and then fax the whole document. Works just fine. I can imagine this method being a pain for people who send multipage faxes on a regular basis, but for the casual use it works great.

Lotsa bang for the ol' buck. Performs all tasks quickly, quietly and easily for a very small price. Printing seems to be it's strong suit. I'm sure the faxing is functional. The scanning isn't of the highest quality I've ever seen but it works and seems fairly easy to integrate into other programs. For the price, as long as it's not defective or damaged in shipping, it should fill most home office needs.

Review: Good product for the price
by: U. Sauchanka on date: January 16, 2007
This is a good product for its price. I have not found any deficiencies so far in the features this machine offers.
There are two major features (from my point of view) that this unit lucks:
- automatic document feeder;
- double-sided printing;
For those of you who would like to have those features, I strongly recommend to consider another model, like Canon MF4150 for example (which btw costs only $40 more). If I could turn back time, I would definitely go for the MF4150.

I purchased this machine for the copying and printing. It does an excellent job for both of these purposes. I have not tried the fax out or the scanning. It certainly has exceeded my expectations, and at this point I would recommend this printer to anyone!

I owned a canon inkjet printer 15 years ago that lasted and printed very well for years. With this in mind, it influenced this purchase.

At this point I am extremely satisfied and impressed with the print quality for copying and printing.

I bought this as a replacement to the last generation of this model. The last one was in a dusty, industrial environment and worked great for 2 years. Which was 1 year longer than we anticipated. This new copier I bought seems to be more of the same. A sturdy and reliable machine. We push about 150 copies through it daily. I bet if we kept this machine in the cleaner office environment, it would last us 5 years. Which is long for office equipment at this bargain price.

I fell in love with this unit when I bought it, due to its smooth & fast operation. However, I sold it with my business, then replaced it with the slightly more full-featured unit in the same product line: the Canon MF4150 Laser Duplex P/s/c/f 21PPM Adf also from Amazon. The MF4150 is well worth the extra few dollars to get the duplexing feature, which works like a charm - even under Windows Vista. Both are great products, but don't buy this one before you consider whether you want duplexing. However, both lack built-in networking.

I bought this unit in November of 2006. So far, I am very happy with it. Nice quality out put. I have been using it as a printer, copier, and scanner. The copy and printer feature work great. The color scan is very nice, I tried to scan some old pictures which about 30 years old and they turn out wonderful. I have not figure out the fax feature works yet. The only draw back I can think of when using fax is that it may be slow since you will have to fax one page at the time so it may take longer to fax if you have multi pages. The price is great from Amazon for $160.00 and it comes with the toner cartrige.

Review: Great for Home
by: G. Iyer on date: February 1, 2007
Great looking thing. Not the cheapest of its class but certainly one of the better looking ones. Make sure that if you buy this unit you also buy the USB cable (a/b) that the package lacks (at least when bought from Amazon). I have seen some other online retailers sell it with the USB.

The problems with the unit are the fact that it cannot handle multi-page faxes (so irritating to use if you fax a lot) and that if you want to cancel a print the fastest way is to just pull out the paper tray. You have at least 4 clicks minimum to go through the menus to cancel the print. The unit is quite big but seems to handle various paper types. The other point to consider is the price of the product's toner is quite expensive as compared to other multifunction units.

Printer+Copy+Scanner Canon MF3240 is a simple machine to use. I bought it for home use, works perfectly with my laptop, I do not have to worry about how many pages the printing job is, since the printer is a monochrome cartridge laser which lower the cost of printing at home.
I am satisfied with the multifuction futures, and its simplicity to use,
I do not use all at the same time but I have it for any project after
the office or weekends. The printer's size was a little bigger than I expected but overall it is a good value purchase.
