HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, and Copier

Excellent and fast printer that is economical for the quality. It requires a lot of horizontal desk space (almost 24 inches), however, especially with the paper catching arm extended.
I love this printer. It was easy to set up and the quality of print is excellent and it prints really fast. I am stunned that I could get so much from such an inexpensive printer. The scanning feature is intuitive and easy to manage. I highly recommend it.
The one-star reviews on Amazon of this printer are all 100% correct and accurate - this printer is an utter failure by HP, and that's why they're giving it away (it came with Maintosh Powerbook for free). Both the hardware and software of this printer simply do not work, and the print quality is horrible.
- The paper feeder mechanism simply does not work. It does not recognize 4x6 photo paper, and defaults to 8.5x11 regular paper. It feeds 4x6 photo paper incorrectly each time, resulting in a crooked picture.
- The print quality is horrible. I'm using the highest quality non-HP photo papers, but it makes no difference. The same photo on an equally cheap non-HP photo printer comes out starkly better.
- The software is full of bugs. Viewing multiple pictures and clicking on one does not result in the photo being displayed in the main window. This level of blatant bug is hard to believe but true.
- The cartridges are tiny and run out after only about dozen prints. Again, UNBELIEVABLE!
- After each print, the paper selection on the printer itself defaults back to 8.5x11 paper. Even if you select the 4x6 paper on the software, the printout comes out terrible. Unbelievable incompetence on the part of HP...
If you're looking for a GREAT multi-function machine, go for Brother 7820N.
If you're looking for an outstanding but economical photo printer, go for CANON i470D.
I bought this printer and I think the best place for it is a trash bin.
The print is OK, the software functions but is not real user friendly. The worst issue is you get about 10 color pages before you have to replace the cartridge. The black cartridge isn't much better. The cartridges cost less but compared to my old printer I will have to spend about $100+ dollars more for just either color or black cartridges. This printer isn't even worth 1 star. Stay Clear of this one.
Overall, this printer works well. It prints and scans efficiently. I haven't printed any photos yet, but it has built-in settings and memory chip slots and appears to be designed with photos printing in mind. It's easy to use and I've had no hang-ups or problems in the 6 weeks I've owned it.
I bought it to replace my HP 2210 All-in-one after the plastic holder for the black ink cartridge snapped in half. Of course, HP didn't carry a replacement part and the repair store in Santa Barbara wanted to charge me $80 plus parts to fix it. Their new printer was selling for $80 at Costco.
Two things I've noticed:
It doesn't have a tray dedicated to holding the printed sheets, which means it shoots them all over the floor. This is an issue for a PhD student like me who often has to print 10-120 page documents. I have to either sit and catch the papers as they come out, or I have to sort them after they've landed in a pile on the floor.
I noticed that the ink cartridges seem to need to be replaced more often. When I compared box labels, I noticed that the #92 print cartridges for this printer contain 5 mL of ink, while the #56 cartridges for the older 2110 contained 19 mL. The two kinds of cartridges cost the same, though.
This is a decent printer if you need to buy one, but considering the differences in ink costs it's probably more cost-effective to hold onto your older printer for as long as you can. HP seems to have the planned obsolescence concept down, with stupid plastic parts that break after a few years and then cannot be replaced. It would be nice to see the company practice better ethics toward its customers and toward the environment. Toxic landfill that will last for generations seems to be a high public cost for an increase in their bottom line.
I got it for free after rebate but I have never gotten it to work.
I hate printers.
I will be taking a hammer to this piece of garbage shortly.
All in all a horrible product.
Somewhat slow and text documents not quite as crisp as from a single function printer; but impressive overall at a superb price.
The scanner and provided software was very dissappointing. The colors are very faded and did not provide any software to clean up the image manually. The printer worked adequately.
I compared this to the printers on the market at 200$ and above and i dont see any difference. this printer was 70$ including the shipping. it does'nt get any better than that. It's fast , quiet and is a solid product.
So far, it makes good copies of written material. Regarding copying photos, the skin tone has been darker than on the original, but still looks ok. Have not had it long enough to give more feedback.
Do you like to buy expensive ink all the time? Do you enjoy extremely water-soluble inks (even a slight amount of humidity or perspiration on your hands will easily cause your printed work to smudge away)?
This product is deceptive. On the outside it looks nice, it is loaded with useful features such as a high-quality scanner and nice looking prints at an affordable every day low price. However do not be deceived. This product is inferior to previous HP printers I have owned, it seems they are abandoning their commitment to high quality for high profits through the use of cheap water-soluble inks (e.g. rubs off extremely easily) provided to the consumer at low amounts and high prices.
You were warned from one unhappy HP customer.
The product is great. Easy to handle and set up. The service of Amazon was amazing - they shipped it ahead of time and in a well protected package.
Highly recommended!! don't go to stores - just use Amazon!!
I got this printer for school, and after the first few months, it would not print in color for more than 2 days after replacing the cartridge. Plus anytime you change a cartridge, it prints a test page that uses up a lot of ink. It's loud, and would wake my roommate up in the mornings.
The best thing about this printer is that it can provide great stress relief. At the end of the second year, I took it outside and beat it to a pulp with a hammer, along with a friend of mine who had problems with her printer, also an HP.
Bottom line. HP printers are NOT worth the money.
I bought this all-in-one to replace an earlier model
from HP that was proving balky. It came promptly as
promised. It's not a bad printer but less of a bargain
that one might think.
First of all, the software supplied would not provide
the correct link to register with HP (it said that the
address was incorrect--on the software they supplied!).
Getting this resolved required a call to Bangalore but
it got done, after the inevitable tedious waiting and
translation into the intermediate language used by the
Infosys or Wipro 'customer support' staff in India.
Once installed, the printer worked as expected and
produces excellent images and print.
About the ink cartridges: iniquitously small and costly,
as usual with all the 'razor/blade' printer manufacturers.
But comparisons with other makes, via friends, shows that
this is normal and unavoidable. Some day, someone will
produce cartridges that are larger and less expensive.
The world will beat a path to their door.
Nice printer, works great, but it's probably my last HP. The cartridges that you have to use with this one are the 92 and 93. There is very little ink in these cartridges it's either 5 ml or 15 ml (1 teaspoon or 1 Tb). It goes incredibly fast. The cartridges are cheaper, but you buy a lot of them.
To remark on the previous comments- there is an piece of plastic that swings out and has a little flap that goes up and this provides a platform for the papers to land on. The idea behind this printer is compactness.
As for the print head on the cartridges--that's why the cartridges are $20 or more--the print head is on the cartridges. I have steered away from Canon because you have to replace the print head, but now am considering it. I have heard that you get alot of use out of the printer before that happens. So my next printer will be either an Epsom or a a Canon.
If I could sum this product up in one word...well, I think my title covers it. Lets see, where do I begin:
1: Software (which is neccessary for scanning) does not work with Vista. I cannot get the thing to scan. I've tried every solution out there and nothing works.
2: Print quality sucks! I tried printing some photos that I took with my Canon 8 MEGAPIXEL camera and they all came out dull, lifeless, and the color was nothing like what I saw on my computer screen. Everything has a red tinge to it!
3: Sucks up ink! I just got this thing yesterday and I printed a few 4x6 photos and 1 8x10 photo and I've already used half of my color cartridge. What a waste!
I cannot WAIT to return this thing to the store tomorrow! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!
This is an easy to use, versatile, inexpensive printer/scanner/copier.... I've done photos, graduation announcements and more~ all with ease. Copier works even when computer is turned off, which is very handy!
I bought this for my wife, and she is very pleased with it. But strangely enough, when the package arrived the box the printer came in was soaking wet. The outer carton was dry, so evidently the inner box was deluged with water before it was packed. It is hard to imagine that the packer could not have noticed this. The printer was protected by a plastic envelope and apparently it came through unscathed, but the manual was wet. I have no criticism of the device, but I am distressed by Amazon's apparent carelessness in shipping it.
Scanning function is a little finicky electronically. Soft-ware is very good. Files are easy to find and work with. Good and quick quality printing and copying is a snap. Doesn't accomodate large (thick) items very well. Could use a variable height lid. Customer service is very good but be careful: the warranty may have started running well before you actually take delivery.
I bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace the hp3940 which suddenly died on me. I could not even get customer support for that.
So far, I am impressed with my c3180. It takes up very little space and is compact. The thing I like very much about this is - it is very silent. It makes good quality copies, scans and prints, easy to install and easy to operate. Serves my purpose at home.
I purchased this printer after my previous HP printer died after 7 years. I never used that one for photos. I got really streaky prints. I got better results going to the neighborhood photo place. But I was suprised when I printed a 8x10 from my 8mp camera. I couldn't tell the difference from the photo store prints.
I've been using it for my photo's nonstop ever since.
I don't know the longevity of the ink but for everyday prints this is a winner.
This is a very easy to use combo printer, scanner, and copier with remarkable printing quality and speed for the price.
My HP Photosmart all-in-one printer was delivered unbelievably fast, and it works beautifully. We are very pleased with it!!
Since I have started using computers, printer, etc., I have had HP products. They are a great value for the money and the copies are always good. This is so compact and easy to use. It has the slots also for your memory sticks, cards, etc. Nice value for the money and superior to many that cost much more.
I'll simply add my second to many of the negative comments here. Bought it because I trust HP, I liked the size and appearance, I liked the price. And for the first few days I like what it did with both photos and documents.
For office use, it's driving us nuts. Constantly feeding it ink, throwing out prints that it decides to miscolor (seems fond of pink smears). A couple of odd usability quirks, such as -- when it runs out of paper, and you feed it more, how do you get it to go again? Hit the cancel button (!?!?).
Sucks. Can't wait to replace it.
I have had my printer since January. Intially the printer worked, but within a couple of weeks it would print strange characters or give error messages while printing, messing up the document. On a good day it might print two to three documents before sending error messages and spewing out junk. If I attempt to cancel the job, it grabs more paper and prints more garbage! It is a great product when it works, otherwise don't waste your money on this lemon!
This all-in-one machine is ok for most basic office uses. It is quite compact, easy-to-use, and the price is really unbeatable. I am very satisfied with the print speed. However, I am disappointed in a few things:
1. The ink consumption. I've had other HP inkjet printers before, but they were not half as thirsty as this machine is. I keep it set to Fast Draft, but the ink still is used at an alarming rate. I don't seem to be able to print as much from one cartridge as from my old HP DeskJet 5440.
2. The print and scan quality. It is ok, but not what I expected from a machine nowadays. I don't find the scan quality significantly better than that on my 6-year-old UMAX scanner. And the photo printing is acceptable, but it cannot even compare to my 2 year old HP Photosmart 7690. I would be far more forgiving of the quality if the ink consumption wasn't so bad.
If you only have light printing needs and don't need outstanding quality, this AIO will do the job. But if you are into digital photography or plan on printing more than once a week then look for another printer/AIO.
I bought this printer almost three months ago and have never been able to use it. It is totally useless.
What happened? Well, I followed all of the instructions, but as soon as I connected the printer's usb cable to my computer, sparks flew (literally) and my computer was fried, and my monitor went out along with all the lights in part of my house.
After spending several hundred dollars to replace my computer hard-drive and reinstall my operating system and software, the printer still didn't work. It wouldn't power on. So -
I called HP's Tech support on three different occasions and got the run around each time. Finally, they sent me a new power adapter for the printer. Well, I used that and the printer turned on. I was so excited - until I tried to connect it to my computer. The PC wouldn't recognize it - absolutely nothing happened when I connected it to either of the six USB ports.
Ok, so I call HP's tech support again and get the run around two more times. They tell me the problem is with my computer even though I can use all of the USB ports with other devices like my digital camera, my iPod, a Lexmark printer, and a flash drive. Finally, I get a tech support person who says she will escalate the problem to her supervisor, who will give me a call back. Guess what - no one ever called me back.
So I then go to another PC we have in the house and try to install and use the printer on that one. Same problem - absolutely nothing happens when I connect to any of the USB ports. And, just like with the other computer, all my other USB devices work just fine.
I call HP Tech Support yet again and am told that someone did contact me and told me that I needed to call my PC manufacturer. First, no one ever called me. Second, the problem isn't with my PC, it's with the C3180 printer.
So, I just got off the phone with yet another Technician who said he will have someone from "the special hardware team" give me a call. I hope they do but I'm not going to hold my breath.
This whole ordeal has been a tremendous waste of my time, energy, and money. From now on, I'll just stick with Lexmark.
I bought this printer for my father's birthday. He is a photographer and is just getting into the "digital" age. I wanted to get him something he could use at home, maybe not professional quality, but still decent. The printer works really well, we are very happy with the quality of the prints and we've used it for scanning and copying and it does a good job. I like the fact that you can get the ink almost anywhere and it's not very expensive. We looked at several printers and this one seemed like the best compromise for the money and were pleasantly surprised by the actual quality-it was better than expected. It is not as loud as I thought it would be and has only had one paper jam all the times we've used it. I especially liked the 3 memory card slots in the front because you don't have to have your computer on to make prints(but it does help if you want to make really good ones)and it will just print you an index card of all your pictures.
I was like many confused printer buyers. Laser, inkjets, all-in ones, color... I was close to buying a laser and then realized I'm not gonna use it that much.
If you are like me, someone who occasionly prints out a resume, directions, or an interesting article, then this is the printer for you. It's speed is quite sufficient and the print quality is excellent. The copier also works great.
And don't worry too much about the ink. Its pretty good actually. I use it as described above and have had the same cartridge for like 5 months now. And its only half used. Thas my review. Hope you benefited. PEACE
Great product and value. Crisp, clear, high-quality printing, copying and photo reproduction. Better results than my old Lexmark. Easy to set up and use. Two "warnings:" 1) the printer does NOT come with a cable, so order one if you need it; and, 2) the included software is NOT compatible with Windows-Vista, HOWEVER, HP will provide a CD with a Vista-compatible printer driver at no charge. (You can contact HP via e-mail with this request. They responded very promtly.)
As always, I was very pleased with the great service and prompt shipping from Amazon.com!
This is a great printer! You will get your money worth. Works great right out the box. Easy to install,Prints great pictures.
Just received my printer-however, I couldn't use it right away because you must purchase the USB 2.0 Cable a-b; sold seperately. It should arrive in a few days. It was easy to assemble and I was able to test the copier-great copies and fast! Overall, the best purchase yet!
Ibought this to replace my 5 year old Lexmark multifunction printer. I love the smaller footprint. The software loaded in 15 minutes. I print a lot of color images and the quality is excellent and fast. I haven't tried scanning or printing photos yet, but will update when I do. As an added bonus I found I can get all three cartridges (black, color and photo) for under $[...] with free shipping at Re-Inks! I would recommend this printer to anyone. You certainly couldn't do better for the price.
One big problem with this printer is that it won't print if even only one of the 4 ink cartridges is low or out of ink. The print head, which failed on mine, is very easy to replace. You don't have to take the whole thing apart.
Problems with the color cartridge. I contacted HP, after an hour on the phone trouble shooting with no results they sent me a new printer with no new cartridges-same problem!!. I called them and they wanted to go through the same process again. I don't have time for this, all I needed was a new cartridge. I don't want to deal with HP or there customer support anymore. I'll buy from a different company.
Great as far as doing the job well, but its an ink hog. If you have to print or copy a lot, look for something else. {Unless you don't mind buying ink}
Love this product! Easy to use & great quality.
I have to say overall i have been really pleased with this product, it does exactly what it says on the tin!! it was excellent value, the software is easy to load and the scan quality is excellent.
I had an ealier version of this printer that worked well but since it was set above eye level in my armoire office the buttons on top were a big problem. Every time there was a glitch I had to get a stool and flashlight to check it out. My new one is easier to get to since it is on a lower shelf but I still wish they were on the front. The print and photo quality is great and the scan quality is amazing. I have't figured out how to scan slides yet but my husband probably knows. Fine machine for the money.
The printing is very good quality and sometimes the copies are better than the originals! The colors are brilliant and very true to the original image. Have't tried printing photos yet.
I've had some difficulty with margins--sometimes the printer leaves a little off the right side. Also having some trouble understanding all the directions for scanning and therefore have trouble getting it to do what I want. This may not be the fault of the manual, but my lack of time to really study it.
The reasons for my low rating are two. First, you will run through a black ink cartridge quickly. Second, There is not a way to print in "Draft" mode to conserve ink. All fonts appear to print in bold.
This printer is a simple, yet quality device. It has the print quality you expect from HP and easy operation of scanner/copier functions. The ink replacement is a bit tight to see what you are doing if you are unfamiliar with the HP ink snap in procedure. But, the price was right and the quality is there
Prints nicely. Photocopies nicely. Almost impossible to use the scanner with OS X. Plan on spending five or ten minutes per page, trying to get it to work.
It will give an error that shows it doesn't recognize the printer, then five minutes later without changing any of the connections, it will recognize it. I think it is probably just buggy software.
My friend has another HP all-in-one model, and also uses System X. She can't get hers to scan at all.
Works well. Is a little noisy.
The cartriges hold much less ink so printing costs are higher.
I love my Photosmart C3180 printer. My prints come out superfast and beautifully colorfull. I would recommend this item to anyone.
GREAT JOB HP!!! TOP OF THE LINE!!!
I purchased this unit for copying only and it works very well for that purpose. Quite inexpensive at $69 too!
This printer works flawlessly on my system, Ubuntu 6.10. It is a great cheap way to print, and scan. Like almost all printers it's flaw is in its ink needs which can be mediated by asking for gray draft quality on printing jobs whose quality requirements are not high.
Prints, scans, copies. Everything you need in one package. Only defect is the ink cartridges only hold 5ml of ink. Get a refill kit and you're good to go! High quality output- documents, photos, etc. I like it!!!
I was looking for a printer for my kids computer. This is perfect. Just make sure to get patch for certain computers.
We've had this all-in-one for a couple of months and it has worked very well. Setup was a breeze, function buttons are self-explanatory. Makes photo handling/emailing/printing a breeze with the slot for memory card. We have printer on a high shelf above the monitor, so I wish the function buttons were on the front panel instead of up on top. Their placement doesn't work particularly well for me, but if I had it down lower (which I would do if I had a shelf), they'd be fine. I paid $77 at Target at Christmas and it was money well spent. I have not had a single problem that others have described with paper jams or software issues. Scans and photos have great photo quality (I'm a layperson and they look great to me!). If you're a tekkie, then you can probably find fault, but for under $100 this printer does an amazing job.
We are very happy with this printer and this was the best price I have found on this model.
My college aged daughter's printer died and she needed a replacement right away. I checked out this one and bought it for her. The price could't be beat, she received it right away and it works great! This is even better than the old one which was only a printer. With the 3 in one she can scan in articles and make copies too! A great deal for the money!
This printer has great features for the price. We love everything except when we scan it only scans a small area of the document or item--but that may be something we're doing wrong. Great for a family with kids---scans, prints, copies, and has memory card docks!
I am the farthest thing from tech-savvy so my expectations for peripherals mostly focus on ease of use, compatability and maintenance (preferably lack thereof). To date I can recommend this device on all these levels. Print quality is excellent and speed isn't bad at all for both color and b&w (I haven't used the photo printer option yet).
The ink cartridge needs to be replaced pretty frequently. Unfortunately that's pretty much a sign of the times; companies like HP, Canon etc. make their money off supplies, not hardware. All the same, given the maxim that one gets what one pays for, this was a fantastic pickup for the price paid. If you're looking for blazing speed and a huge inkwell you should look further up the chain; if you need a durable everyday device, this is for you.
There's not much to commend this printer. It goes through ink quickly. You cannot use a bigger volume cartidge (#97) even though it should be compatible. The print speed is not particularly fast. The controls are completely confusing. In order to reset the printer after paper jams, I have to completely unplug the printer's power source. The cancel/reset button doesn't seem to do much of anything. I've had countless paper jams, with both plain inkjet paper and photo paper. I've had many situations where the software tells me the print heads can't move (can only be solved by unplugging again. Finally, I removed the back roller cover to check for a phantom paper jam and a cheap plastic post on the cover snapped, making it useless. Rather than waste my time on warranty work, I've just tossed the whole thing in the recycling bin. Hopefully I can salvage the ink cartridges for another printer. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a piece of hardware, and I work with computers for a living.
I absolutely love this printer/copier (haven't used the scanner yet). It is really compact and fits in a tiny space. The copier quality is far better than others I have used in the past even other HP products. The one touch buttons are awesome. It can handle heavier weight paper with no problem. I print bunches and bunches of postcards and photos and it works great. I would highly recommend for the price. When I purchased this one all of my local chains and other online stores had it priced much higher than Amazon.
Love the copier, speed, quality, etc. at a great price. But I'm wondering now if the price was because they are going to get me on constantly replacing the ink cartidges. I've only had it about 3 weeks and the black ink is gone! and not that much has been printed. After reading comments on the ink cartidges, they are apparently much smaller than usual and constantly need to be changed. Not happy about that...wish I had known prior to purchase, probably would have chosen a different model :(
This all in one seems to be working out fine. The price was right ($69). Free shipping and no tax makes this a great buy from Amazon. The HP name gives me peace of mind. The installation was quick and easy. I've only had the printer hooked up for little over a month but it seems to be working out great, so no complaints so far.
This is a great item. I love that it is so easy to use. It works quickly, and makes a great photo printer at a reasonable price. Love it. Already scanned a bunch of pics and made copies of legal documents. It works great at a great price! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
In all my years of using printers at home and at the office, I have never had more trouble than with this printer. I have reloaded software multiple times, moved the printer to a brand new computer, and loaded all the HP fixes until I'm blue in the face. After all that, if you simply run out of paper, or print one copy, every attempt to print afterwords is garbage! Forget about printing pictures! The only use we get out of this printer is to make simple copies -- very slowly!
I bought this from amazon and it was damaged in shipping and never even delivered. So amazon sent me a replacement for free. Then they said i never sent back the first one, so they charged me again. They finally acknowleged that I didn't recieve the first one and said that they would refund my Visa card. That was more than 4 weeks ago and I still haven't got my money back. They have the WORST customer service. Amazon can be a great way to shop, but if you have a problem it could take a long time to get it resolved.
RECEIVED MY ALL IN ONE PRINTER SCANNER COPIER IN TWO DAYS. WORKS GREAT. EASY TO HOOK UP. VERY EASY TO SET UP AND USE.
I bought one of these printers with my iMac and found it was fast and efficient. Now i will buy another one for my sister's room, since it's on here for 87.99 which is great deal! Scanning and copying is also with good resolution.l
fast shipping:) looks good on my desk! ty! but next time... hp!!! add the usb cord it needs... i had to spend a extra 27 dollars to just hook it up... other wise good... ty.
I purchased this printer Jan.11, 2007 and have been very happy with the the product but shocked at your price change. I paid $99.99 two weeks latter I see your price is only $66.00 (-$33.99) Office Max alao advertised it Jan.14 & jan. 27, 2007 for $84.99
The HP Photosmart C3180 was my Christmas present...so I'll have to lean towards kind sentiments here, in case my boyfriend is lurking. HP products in general have a good reputation, so I was initially quite hopeful about the potential for this unit. It is a good choice for anyone seeking general scanning and printing needs, but I'm a fine artist and photographer - the output I require is something to render details, accurate color and depth that will last for generations. After going through a stack of expensive photo paper and half the ink in the unit, the photo I'm trying to print still looks dark, (even though I lightened it), and has alot less contrast than what I see on my monitor. Also, to my dismay, one print has slightly vertical bars running down the sheet of photo paper. Side by side comparisons of photo prints to my old HP printer convinced me to look for a better, probably more expensive printer that specializes in excellent photo output, a higher DPI, with more inks.
Let me say first that I'm a senior who learned about computers late in life, and I'm not real good at it. But I try. I have an e mac and really like it but the hp printer I had before this one was so much simpler that I needed more instruction with this one. I installed it okay but had trouble communicating with it through the computer. With help, I think it's okay now. I wish hp would give a few more detailed suggestions for working with a Mac. And I also had trouble using a printed paper, (one with a 3 in. design on the top) to print a christmas letter. It kept rejecting it and saying it was the wrong size, which it wasn't. (The old printer accepted it just fine.) It copies and prints beautifully, I don't have a digital camera yet so haven't tried that. I suppose as I learn more about these machines things will improve.
Bought this for my teenager's PC, MAC laptop. A quality buy at an affordable price! Haven't printed any photos yet, sorry!
This machine was easy to set up and to use. We have had it over a month and have had no problems with it. I would highly recommend it to someone looking for a all in one printer that is dependable. We have used it for several school projects and birthday inventations for my seven year olds birthday.
Thanks
Love this printer. so easy to use and understand.Fast printing scanning and copiing.
I already love HP printers, so when I replaced my 5 yr old HP1315 I selected this one, and I was not disappointed. More bang for your buck!
I have been very disappointed in this machine and can't even get back-up help from HP. I can not get the computer to communicate with it when I want to enlarge, etc from the computer though I can print out e-mails and pictures working from the computer. The machine itself does not have the capacity to enlarge, etc. The original ink cartridges only lasted a few weeks with very little printing being done. All in all it's a dud!!!
Much better than the last printer I had. I'm somewhat of a novice with these machines, but this one is easy to use and gives excellent results.
Replaced a 5yr old Lexmark with this printer, and could not be happier. Amazing for this price!
For the price this printer works quite well. I bought this as a gift for my daughter and so far she couldn't be happier. From out of the box to up and running it took all of 20 minutes or so to setup. Everything is working as it should. I would recommend this printer as a good buy.
As a photo printer, this has proven to be an excellent choice. The quality of the prints has been outstanding, and setting it up was very easy. As a scanner, it is a bit slower than I would like. However, it does a very good job. Scanning in old household papers, I found that it managed to capture fairly faint test from some handwritten documents. Overall, we are very pleased with the C3180.
I was plesently surprised how well it copies, for an in-expensive All in One, I think it is well worth the money.
Considering the price of the printer I am very pleased with the results.
Pro's
1. Pictures/Documents look great
2. Scanner/Copier works well.
3. Software has a lot of nice features such as scanning multiple pages to PDF document.
Con's
1. Ink cartridges are small.
2. Scanner and Software could be faster
3. Printer can feed multiple pages when there are only a few pages in the tray. I make sure I have a stack of 25 or more to keep this from happening.
4. Printer/Software locked up once during scan. I had to unplug it to get it working again.
The printer and copier works great. Its also great at printing out pictures and prints pretty fast.
This is the best printer I have ever had!! I love it!!
HP makes the best Printers, but this specific model that incorporates a good Scanner and Copier too made this a great purchase for the price. I needed something reliable because I use this for my business and I've never had problems with HP Copiers.
I highly recommend this product, the C3180. I made Christmas cards on it this year, scanned and printed lots of silly stuff, and scanned and printed lots of important stuff. I've had it for 3+ months, now, with no hassles. I bought extra ink cartridges for back-up when doing those cards, but didn't need them. I had replaced the cartridges maybe a few weeks before. And the software that came with it is so straight forward and easy to use. As for the price, Staples (or was it Office Max) had it for, I think, $84 before tax. But I wouldn't have known to buy it without Amazon's feedback. Oh, and it arrived like two days after I ordered it! 5 stars.
For under a hundred bucks, you can't go wrong with this excellent color printer/ scanner/ copier.
When I bought this printer, I planned to use it mainly for text and graphics printing rather than photographs, which I generally get printed at Target or Sam's Club. The small footprint, ease of use, great print quality and low price of the C3180 were exactly what I needed, and I've been happy with it pretty much across the board. Plus, it was a bonus to learn that it actually creates really nice pictures, when you print with the "highest dpi" setting, rather than the "best" setting. Even more important to me was the fact that, according to leading archival research group, Wilhelm Imaging Research, HP makes some archivally rated inks, though you have to purchase them seperately.[...]
The only drawback for me is the fact that this printer isn't wireless friendly, so I have to detach the printer from my husband's PC and reconnect to my Apple laptop via USB cord whenever I want to print. Obviously this is something that I could have figured out before buying it, so it's not really the printer's problem, I just didn't realize how much more convenient it would have been to send print jobs from wherever I happened to be working around the house. Other than that, I'd probably buy it again, as I haven't had any real problems.
The printer was shipped immediately and arrived within only a few days - even with super saver shipping. Installation was quick and very easy. I got the printer at the end of October and have had no trouble printing, making copies and scanning documents and photos.
The printer fits nicely on my small desk and produces fast, quality prints. Just be aware that it does not come with a USB cable - but that doesn't mean you have to spend $30+ on one. I ordered the Startech cable from CompUSA for $8 with shipping and it works just fine.
This all-in-one is really a great deal for the price.
The printer is good for the price I paid. I had a simpler version of HP but I really needed the scanner so I upgraded. My origonal printer was really quiet which I really like. I live in a dorm so quiet is good. This modle is cheaper but has more features and its parts are therefore louder when the move. For a college student, it serves its perpose. I am satisfied
It uses the ink faster than my other HP did and is a little noisy, but other than that, it is a great machine for photos, copying and scanning!
Good color (not great photo but for <$70, what do you expect!). Fast B&W, very high quality. Nicest feature is a scanner/copier that runs separately from the computer (computer can be turned off).
This printer/copier/scanner does it all with great quality and at a very reasonable price!
I got this printer wanting a compact multifunction. I have not yet used the photo printing aspects, but have used the scanner. I seem to encounter some issues when it comes to how the images are transferred from the device to the computer. First off, it saves them as bitmap files, which many editing programs will not even open, so they need to be converted. Also, when the images appear in the scanning window, they are not automatically transfered when I select the transfer button. I am told that they have already been put on the computer, but in going to the folder, they are no automatically put on. I have worked around this, but it isn't as straightforward as it should be.
As fars as the printer, it is ridiculously fast for an inkjet especially. I don't like that the printer paper is ejected directly above the paper being taken in for printing without a tray or separation of somekind. Sometimes the printer paper becomes off center in the tray and jams on the righthand side easily. It goes through black in really fast, considering I really don't do that much printing. I don't print everyday and when I do print, it is maybe 10-15 pages for the day about every 4 days or so. I got it in September and am about to change the cartridge for the second time, having already done so at the beginning of November. Overall, this is a good little printer, but it just has some annoying hiccups.
I got this printer recently for very little when I bought a Mac. That is about what it is worth. It gobbles ink like no tomorrow. The paper jams frequently. You have replace all the colored ink even if only one color is depleted. And it insists on printing a test page every time I change a cartridge, using up even more of its limited ink supply. It copies and prints decently, but I find the scanning software unweildly. I long for my old Epson!
I bought this printer to replace my HP PSC 2175 that broke. Before that I had an HP 882C. My level of satisfaction has gone down with both purchases.
I bought the C3180 and took it home, hooked it up, and it won't print magenta... strange. I took it back and exchanged for another one. The second one won't print magenta. Very strange. I tried making 10 copies of a red book to see if it just needed to warm up... I got 10 copies of a yellow book. Very frustrating? Then I checked the ink level with the toolbox and the HP software reported that I had used 20% of the color cartridge... with 10 full color pages? That is absurd. Even if I get this fixed, it will cost me a fortune to keep this printer full of ink. It's going back to the store and I'm coming home with a different brand. I used to be a loyal HP customer, but the quality of the printers seems to have degraded quite a bit.
I got mine when I bought my new Mac Mini. It was a deal where you get a free $100 rebate when purchasing the printer at the same when buying a new Mac. Sure, I didn't buy it from Amazon, but I've purchased a ton of stuff on Amazon and I wanted to see what people were saying about this great printer.
Needless to say, I really like this printer. The quality of print and the relatively low cost can't be beat. One of the first things I did after setting it up in the den was insert a camera card to print without a computer. Worked like a champ! Next I printed some documents with lots of detailed pictures, and the results were stunning. Great job, HP!
Whoever complained about the "missing" cable must be using his or her first USB compatible printer... It seems like every printer manufactured in the last seven years has been using a USB interface as standard, if not as a higher speed printing option (yes, USB prints wa-a-a-a-y faster than those ancient parallel ports did). At this point, my guess is that most people these days are upgrading or retiring an older USB capable inkjet for an all-in-one like this one and they'll already have a USB cable. If not, they can buy a perfectly good USB cable for a couple of bucks almost anywhere... So why all the fuss? :-)
Bottom line: You cannot go wrong with this printer. Great features, great combination device, and great quality results for very little money. :-) I'm completely sold!
I just bought this at Costco, and the USB cable was included, for [...]
Installation was ridiculously simple; we were up and running in a few minutes. I took the manual home one evening to read it and familarize myself with it even more.
It's so simple to operate and we're happy with it...except...that after printing 18 photos the on-screen color ink indicator shows it to be half-empty already!
After we use it some more we will be sure if that's the case or not. But we rarely print photos at home anyways; its often easier to take a bunch of photos to your local CVS store for printing. But when we do need a few prints at the office; this is the way to go!
I didn't purchase this item thru Amazon but thought I would leave my review advice here since I purchase quit a bit from Amazon.
The printer is a 100% better upgrade from my hp 940C that I've owned for 6 years w/ no problems or issues. I wanted to upgrade to an all-in-one for some time. Researched many printers until I seen this one at a local vendor for the same price as advertised online and that made it a great buy for me since the shipping charge was nill.
Installed no problem. Printed like a dream.
Pros: Setup was easy, you can choose which items you wish to install if you pick the custom part of the install. On an install I like to choose which programs I like to install and I think this will eliminate much of the problems with RAM consumption.
Cons: Didn't come with USB cable but this was not really a con for me because my previous hp printer used the same cable. But for someone upgrading from a different manufacturer this could be somewhat of a hinderance. The paper tray is another common problem , especially, if you are already subject to limited space but if not than nothing to really worry about.
From my expierence with reviews is that most of them are just nit-picking, the hp photosmart c3180 really is a nice printer. I think hp does a great job with thier printers and photo software. Just stay clear of their automatic updates and do the updates manually. I don't like alot of software communicating back and forth with my computer and their server because I do alot of online gaming and this causes alot of lag.
If you are looking for a cheap decent printer than this is a bargain.
After many frustrating years with my Epson that wasted ink like there was no tomorrow, I finally decided to invest in an all-in-one printer. My only problem was that I did not want to spend the extra money on a printer that included a fax machine that I would never use.
As a college student, I need a reliable printer that is cost efficient when it comes to ink. I purchased this printer at the beginning of my Fall Quarter (Sept. 2006) and I am still using the original ink cartridges that came with the printer! To put it into perspective the amount of printing I do, I print about an average of 10-15 rich-text pages a week. I have purchased backup ink cartridges which are also very affordable.
The features are very easy to use and I love the fact that you can stick your digital camera memory card right into the printer! This is a great feature especially for people who lack spare USB ports. It's also on the smaller end when compared to other all-one-printers.
One thing I did not like was the fact that the printer did not come with a USB cable. Luckily, I have spare USB cables but for others who don't, it's another added expense. I don't like how the printer does not have a permanent paper tray. I always remove the paper after I'm finished with the printer in order to close the printer. The printer did not come with a photo-ink cartridge but the regular color-ink cartridge also produces good quality photographs, this is especially true when you use higher quality photo paper.
I SCANNED A PICTURE WITH THIS PRINTER AND PRINTED PICTURES FROM THE SCAN. WHEN THE MY SCANNED AND PRINTED PICTURE WAS COMPARED TO THE PICTURE THAT I BOUGHT MY PICTURE LOOKED WAY BETTER. I AM HAPPY WITH THIS. OUR LAST HP PRINTER WAS REALLY GOOD TOO BUT WE WANTED AN ALL IN ONE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE PICK IT APART. YOU ARE GOING TO RUN INTO MINOR ANNOYANCES LIKE A PAPERJAM ONCE IN AWHILE OR THE PRINTER WILL SAY OUT OF PAPER WHEN YOU JUST FILLED IT BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TURN IT OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. COME ON PEOPLE LETS HAVE SOME PATIENCE:-) OVERALL THIS PRINTER IS VERY NICE LOOKING, EASY TO USE, AND THE QUALITY IS GREAT. OUR OLD HP PRINTER HAD LARGER INK CARTRIDGES WHICH WERE VERY SPENDY BUT DIDN'T RUN OUT AS FAST. SO IF YOU PRINT ALOT YOU MAY WANT TO BUY TWO AT A TIME SO YOU ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE BUT OVERALL ITS A GREAT PRINTER!!!
It prints ok, but not great. Seems really flimsy, cheap. Not sure how long it will last. I have to send it back because when it runs out of paper, it never recognizes that you have put more paper in it. Just sets there looking stupid with "out of paper" light flashing. I spent 2 hours with HP tech support asking me stupid questions such as are you using HP paper, and HP ink, like that would affect the fact that it doesn't know there is paper in it.
You have to keep an eye on it when it is printing many sheets of paper because it doesn't have a separate output tray. The paper just lays on two plastic side pieces 1/4 inch above the input paper tray. I imagine they can end up getting fed in again if you walk away from it. All the buttons and lights are on top of the printer so you can't see them if you have it setting on your desk. That placement is great if you are standing up to use it. The ink cartridges only hold 5 ml of ink each not the 19ml I am use to. It does seem prone to paper jams. Get a pair of forceps to help you get the shredded paper out. There is not much room to get anything else in there. The left side paper guide keeps working it's way away from the paper stack. So far it hasn't cause any paper skewing. It does have a poor man's duplexing feature. It prints all the top sides of the pages, ask you to put the paper back in, and prints the reverse side. It's a step up from my current HP4100 printer.
Got this a few months ago after yet another Epson disaster. This one is okay for the money. What I don't like is the front paper loading. And when I scan photos, blacks seem streaky. Other scanners never did this. And no USB cable included? Lucky I just used my old Epson cable.
I just sold my Canon ip5000 and have this HP as a replacement. The Canon is a hellava printer, so I was curious how this one would stand up in terms of quality. Interestingly enough, it did very well. The Canon was a little faster and less noisy, but certainly not worth the additional $250 retail. For $99, you can't go wrong with this printer.
One thing I did notice was the size of the ink tanks on this printer as they are very small. Many have stated that the printer runs dry of ink very quickly, and this may be true, but the ink tanks are small so what do you expect? Proportionally, the tanks are the same price as the larger tanks as they are cheaper but you get less ink. This printer also does not have a permanent paper tray at the bottom that you keep paper in. So when you want to print, you have to open the front and place your paper in, then remove when you are done. You could keep it in there, but it looks sloppy to me as I have a very clean workplace. This lack of feature is not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning.
The printer is great with good speed, quality. Built-in scanner is wonderful. Everything is great and a normal person should be very happy with it. However let you be warned: this printer eats ink at a speed so fast you will feel you are living at the Bestbuy printer ink shelf.
Minus the sacarsm, i could only manage to print approximately 30 pages of FAST DRAFT before the black ink level dropped to almost zero-, and much less with normal or better quality for DOCUMENTS printing.
If you have money to constantly buy ink to fulfill this beast, then all recommendation on this wonderful printer-scanner. If not, and printing documents is your main concern, you have much better luck (and plenty of bucks saved) trying other printer.
It's hard to argue with a combo scanner/printer that didn't cost you anything. I received mine free after rebate with the purchase of my new MacBook. Neverthless, there's a few things to be aware of:
PRO's
- The scan quality is very good. I'm pleased with the results I've gotten from the scans I've made so far.
- The print quality is also quite good. However, it's not quite as perfect as the higher-end PhotoSmart printers.
- Print speed is very fast, especially at draft settings.
- Tidy, space-saving design. I like the horizontal orientation of the scanner lid, and how it opens on the "front." The paper tray lifts up and snaps in place -- even when paper is loaded -- helping you regain a significant amount of desk space when it's not in use.
- PC-less copying. You can drop a document on the scanner bed, press the buttons on the top of the C3180, and get a very nice reproduction in a very short period of time. Nice bonus to be able to set the print quality and BW/Color right on the panel.
- Integrated flash memory card slots. This keeps me from having to connect my camera to the computer when I want to transfer some pictures. Very handy.
CON's
- Doesn't come with photo ink cartridge
- Doesn't come with USB cable
- The lights are always on. If this printer goes into a power-saving "sleep" mode you've never know it, because the bright green panel lights never dim or go out.
- Macintosh drivers assume/require the printer is directly attached to your computer via USB. If your printer is shared by a Windows machine, for example, you'll have to use a lame public-domain print driver designed for a different model. While it prints well enough, you won't be able to control print quality, etc.
- Scanner lid is not hinged, so it is difficult to scan pages from thick books.
- "Smart" scanning software doesn't always guess the right size of the page.
- Paper handling is spartan; output is dropped directly on top of fresh sheets, and both kind of sit there on a "ledge." If you don't extend the little arm on the ledge, printed pages WILL shoot out to the floor as they are ejected.
- No fax support. You can't just put a document on to the scanner and push a button to fax it. Not only is there no phone jack/fax modem built into the the printer (understandable given the price) but there is nothing in the software to make it easier to use your computer's built-in faxing abilities. It would be nice if for the hundreds of megabytes of software installed on your system, a small portion of them were given over to this very useful function.
- Small point: The lights and text accompanying the buttons on the control panel are clear and understandable, but could be designed much more consistently/attractively. The untidy look of it detracts from an otherwise very neat, clean, and attractive box.
- Windows driver software is a bloated, memory-gobbling pig. This is probably the biggest negative about this printer. HP just can't seem to write a lean, efficient driver package anymore. Instead, they force you to install at a minimum the "HP Solution Center" which seems like it was written for 6-year-olds, with gaudy graphics, oversized buttons, and wizards for everything. With my old trusty CanoScan, I could push a button and the image popped up in my favorite drawing program. Not so with the HP software, which wants to control every image on your computer, build an album everytime it launches, etc. Even after all that, it leaves the image in a "Temp" folder deep inside the bowels of your computer, instead of in "My Pictures" where it belongs. Don't forget the obtrusive/intrusive "auto update" software and other ancillary programs. Even when not using the printer or scanner, the various HP-related programs take up about 75MB of system RAM in the background. This could really slow everything down on slower/older computers with 128MB-512MB of RAM. It's nice to have this kind of software for people who might need it, but a "lean" option should be made available for people who want to use it more efficiently. I know it's possible because the Mac OS X drivers are much smaller and cleaner.
OTHER COMMENTS
I really like the hardware on this printer and I would absolutely love it if the software side weren't so bulky and resource-hungry. You can't really "go wrong" at this price. (In my case, "free.") It fits nicely on any desk, and is the perfect device to have within arm's length for quick prints and scans. If it weren't for the lack of network printing support on the Mac side and for the bloatware on Windows, I would give this printer 5-stars.
I bought this printer to use with my two laptops (one a macbook and one running windows xp) through an airport express wireless network. I figured I couldn't go wrong with this printer because it is also sold on apple's website. Unfortunately, HP did not write airport express support into the drivers for this model. The printer works well when directly connected to either laptop via usb, but the only way to get wireless printing support is by using outdated beta drivers from the HP Photosmart P1000. And this fix only works from my macbook; I still have not figured out a way to print wirelessly from winxp. To find the wireless printing fix for any mac, go to HP's site and search their support sections for instructions on how to get wireless printing at least semi-functional. You will not be able to control the scanner at all or any advanced printer settings through this fix, but you'll be able to take care of basic printing tasks.
I bought this to replace my old beloved Canon PIXMA ip1500 after about two years of faithful use. In the end, the print head clogged up, and even after several alcohol soaks, I could not revive it. My Canon was a blessing as far as ink prices were concerned, and I wanted a good printer to replace it. I decided that I was going to step up and get a multifuction printer this time.
I settled on this one after reading the reviews on Amazon. I am very pleased with my purchase. For starters, the printer looks amazing. It is very sleek, and it doesn't look like your typical office machine at all. It is very well designed, and everything fits together in a compact way. One thing that made me leap for joy with this printer was the ink cartridges. They are not as cheap as my beloved PIXMA ip1500 ink cartridges, but there is a reason for this. Older printers used to have a separate print head that the ink would fit into. That was great, but if the print head got clogged, you would be screwed (just as I was) because you either had to replace it, which would end up costing much more than the original price of the printer, or you would have to get another printer all together.
With the Photosmart C3180 ink, the print head is actually built into the ink cartridge! That means that if the print head ever gets clogged, then you don't have to worry about getting another print head or another printer. You just have to get a new ink cartridge to replace the print head. That is amazing! The printer will last for that much longer.
The ink is good as well. I get excellent print quality for what I use it for. The controls are easy to use, and you can plug you memory card right into the unit and get great pictures directly from the card. The one touch controls are pretty straight forward if you ask me. The scanning and copying is good as well.
If I have one issue with the printer, it is the tray. The printed pages have no where to go but on top of the unprinted ones. The tray was not desinged well to keep the printed pages separate from the ones being fed into the printer, but if you just be careful about watching what you print, then that is not an issue at all.
I am very impressed with this printer. The more that I use it, the more impressed I become. I am satisfied with this, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a powerful all-in-one printer at an exeptional price.
I installed the printer drivers on two PC's. Enabled file and printer sharing through my network cards. Connected through a linksys router. I was up and running in less then 20 mins.
The craftmenship is excellent. Looks better in person then in the pics. Print quality is adjustable to save ink. Nice little unit with easy to use lighted buttons. A printer, scanner and copier all in one for less then $80 you cant beat it.
Oh....and dont be fooled into thinking you need to spend the extra money on a more expensive model just becasue they offer a 2 or 3 inch LCD panel, because you dont. Those LCD panels are useless considering you can view and change all the printer settings right from your pc without leaving the comfort of your chair.
My only complaint is that they dont supply the USB cable, which I think is totally rediculous. Circut City wanted 30 bucks for the cable, what a rip off, I got it for $8 at PC Club. HP does supply a black ink cartridge and a color ink cartridge. They are very easy to install. You have to buy the photo quality ink cartridge seperate.
The numbskull from Florida in the previous post that gave this printer a rating of 1...... well you can tell by his post, he is an idiot and sounds like tech supports worst nightmare. He should just get rid of his computer and go back to using calculaters. I hear they make them solar powered nowadays. This is definitly a 5 star product.
Stay far away from the HP photosmart all-in-ones. I bought two different models, tried to set them up, scanners wouldn't work, software took 45+ minutes to install, they give you four programs to do the same thing and was on the phone with tech support for hours with no solution. "Reboot and re-install" is all they can do for you. Got one printing and it literally shot the paper right out onto the floor, no printed paper tray included!
Stress Free Solution: Go with a plain high resolution photo printer and buy a separate scanner. I returned both printers after being a long time HP fan, bought a Canond Pixma IP4200 $99.00 (best quality resolution and print heads out there for the price) plus a Canon scanner for $43.00. Installed both in 15 minutes and was up and running. Scaned in several old pictures and put scanner away since you'll never use it! No card slots, no little useless screen, just great printing! Canon has dual paper trays, a printed paper tray and better than photo quality prints. Take that photo lab!
Let me add my accolades regarding this outstanding hardware/software package. The unit is compact, considering all its functions, and easy to set up and use. It prints super images, makes excellent copies with one touch, and scans with high quality and ease. The software works seamlessly with the hardware. I am especially happy with the scanning function. After so many years of marginal printers, and inferior multi-task machines, it is a great pleasure to own something that really works and delivers high quality images; and at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this unit as an effective and reliable home/office machine.
After going through reviews of 15-20 printers, I decided to eye on HP PSC 3180 All-in-one. I just bought this printer today from Officemax, as the printer was on deal ($30 rebate), as well as the lady at officemax-counter gave me another $15 gift card (possibly back-to-school offer). Overall, I paid $55 for this awesome printer, which has a reg. price of $100. Sweet Deal!
Needless to say, I am awestuck by the printer's amazing performance. Its simplicity (to start up), vivera color features, lots of features with card slots, optimal space-occupation, high resolution, aggresiveness to print and price are unbeatable compared to other printers.
Next I took photocopies of my color and b/w documents, as well as prints of the scanned documents, in both cases with excellent outputs.
Finally, I took colored prints (6" x 4") of 3 photos (from my Canon A620 7.1MP digi-cam), I couldn't believe my eyes. Every details and features of the pictures came out perfect with vivid colors and in less than 15 secs!
I couldn't discover any cons, neither I want to. This is another great printer from HP. I was thinking to buy HP PSC 5610 4-in-1, but I think I made the right decision going for this PS C-3180 printer. Though the price is cheap, it doesn't compromise with the quality.
I would highly recommend it to other customers who are looking to buy printers for home or at office. Thanks HP.
After extensive research into printers for my home office and an intensive review of my budget, I finally settled on the HP Photosmart C3180 without seeing any reviews. However, I figured that the price was right, the HP reputation is strong and the functions of the printer are what I need.
I connected the printer as soon as it arrived (piece of cake, even for a novice like me). I then began to use it very heavily. I am so impressed. THe quality of the print is incredible, the printer is versatile and it moves fast (especially when in the economical fast mode). The difference in operations and results between this printer and those in the $250 to $300 price range is negligible.
As far as looks are concerned, the printer is sleek with a very small footprint, even taking the paper tray into consideration. It has a clean appearance without an industrial look. It is great for today's offices with a more contemporary appearance.
The only possible issue that may detract from this printer is the same as may be found with any inkjet, with the exception of the very high end inkjets. Inkjets tend to be a little noisy as it prints at the speedier settings. This printer isn't any different.
I recommend this printer for anyone who wants a stylish all-in-one printer that performs like a high-end printer and yet who is not willing to spend the $400 plus price of the more expensive printers.
As many have already said, this is an excellent little printer at a great price for the home computer or small office. The only difficulty I had in setting up the printer is that there is apparently a bug with AOL software that interferes with the software set-up process. A call to the HP helpline got me a person who helped walk me through the steps to correct this issue. You will not likely figure it out on your own. (Note: the first HP helpdesk person I spoke with was in India and was of little help. A second call in the evening connected me with someone in Canada who was very helpful.)
Makes great copies . Easy to use and an install on computer. Also makes good quality photo prints. The only drawback is the amount of ink it uses when printing photos.
This printer is pretty good. Set up was relatively easy. It's a little slow when printing pictures, but the quality is excellent. This is one of the best buys for the price.
It's compact, fast, flexible, it copies and scans, it serves all my needs. My one slight complaint is that the ink cartridges are small and I run through them pretty quickly.
This printer is great. It was inexpensive, free shipping and the cartridges are reasonably priced. The printer is fast and even the economy print is really quite good. I love that it does not deplete the color cartridge when you are only printing in black. Our old Brother printer was slow and expensive ink that seemed to run out every other thing. The only problem we had was that our computer wanted to boot the hard drive on the printer first and starting the system up took a very long time. Had a tech change the bios and now everything is fine.
Love this! Have bought 5 printers in the last 15 years to go with upgraded computer purchases ... this is my fav! Fast, good quality copies, prints and scans.
It prints brilliantly. For the price, you wont find a better printer/scanner/photocopier.
I bought this printer in Sept 06. it just works. i know that when i click print, it will do it. That sounds simple but as many people know, printers can sometimes be finicky. It's also fast. prints text pages very quickly. The scanner an copier functions work well too. I've used this printer with windows, mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux. The drivers for hp printers for Linux (hplij i think, i don't remember) are very good and come with a control panel program that will launch scanning programs and tell you how much ink is left, just lime in windows but faster.
My brother bought the same printer a few weeks ago and loves it too.
Doesn't take up a lot of room. Prints great quality copies quickly. Easy to use printer.
This is a great printer for the bucks. Amazon by far had the lowest price I've seen for this exact same model. Print quality is great however it does run out of ink fairly quick.
Great as far as doing the job well, but its an ink hog. If you have to print or copy a lot, look for something else. {Unless you don't mind buying ink}
