Review: Love it!
by: Cozyprose on date: June 27, 2007
High quality at a low price. I really never needed a machine at home that printed more than black and white drafts of manuscripts. When I work on a paper at home or want to print from the web, I don't care whether I have color. However, once I got this machine, I was amazed at the quality of printing and copying. The menu on the machine allows you to choose black and white vs. color printing and copying. I never knew how convenient it was to have a copy machine at home until now. (I don't need a fax, and I haven't yet tried the scan feature on the machine.) I have only a few quibbles with the clarity of set-up directions, and a USB cable was NOT included. Be ready with your own cable if you're in a hurry to set it up. Other than that, so far (I bought it about a month ago) I love it.

Review: A non-profit director's dream of a printer
by: Mindwalker on date: June 15, 2007
As executive director of a developing statewide non-profit that recently received its first small grant, I had significant demands in a printer. I needed a printer versatile enough to provide high quality scanning, quick and professional grade high volume printing, and ease of use. This printer has delivered far beyond my high expectations.

The easy scroll wheel makes this printer a dream to use. Replacing ink cartridges is intuitive and the entire design is user-friendly. The separate ink cartridges and light display when changing cartridges are very helpful. In addition, it is easy to see ink volumes on the easy scroll wheel and on my computer screen. The printer informs you when one of the ink cartridges is running low well in advance. I was able to print about 15 full colour brochures after receiving the low ink warning before I changed the Black 5 Pigment cartridge.

I was impressed that I was able to print 200+ double-sided, full colour (yes, Brit spelling) brochures on thick, high gloss paper without any smudging or bleeding. The ink cartridge lasted until the end of my printing, after I had already printed over a hundred full colour brochures on plain paper. Ink may be more expensive than with other printers, but I've never had ink cartridges provide as much use as these.
A print job that would have cost $2 per brochure for a total of $400 ended up costing me under $100 including high quality, double-sided gloss paper and the replacement ink cartridges for the Black 5 pigment ink. After only one print run, this printer has now paid for itself in the money that I saved. The images and text appear sharp and high resolution. I received multiple compliments on the brochures at a conference yesterday.

I asked the customer service employee at Staples why this printer had two different Black ink cartridges. He told me that the printer usually defaults to using the Black 8 ink for plain paper printing, but that it automatically defaulted to using Black 5 pigment ink for this print job because the Black 5 pigment ink dries more quickly and is more suitable for brochures. I didn't select anything different than if I were printing a letter, the computer just decided (correctly) for me. Again, painless and simple. On another printer, this print job would have required me to play around with different settings. Ideally, you should check print setup to select the correct paper type, paper feed location, and page setup before you print. However, even without doing that, this printer still managed to get it right.

I did not get a single paper jam, except for when I overloaded the paper feed tray with 50+ extra thick brochures, which was definitely my fault. I was impressed that, unlike on the HP I have at my other office, this printer stopped running immediately as soon as the paper began to jam and put a message on my computer screen about the paper jam. Because the printer stopped so quickly, even the jammed sheet was not fully damaged and none of the other pages were affected. Yet another mark of superior quality. For once, the images on my screen actually looked BETTER in print than in print preview. The photos I printed appeared to have been professionally developed upon close glance, though I am admittedly not a professional photographer.

Installation was easy, without the bugs I experience constantly with my HP. My colleague has an Epson, which is better quality than my HP, but is incredibly slow and loud. He has started to use mine because printing on the Canon MP600 is so much quicker, quieter, and higher in visual quality.

There are only three potential drawbacks to this machine that I can envision:

1 Size- It does take up a larger space than many other printers, though this appears to be because it has solid, sturdy construction. It does not appear flimsy at all. I am rough on my equipment and it has held up to over a month of hard, continuous use. I realise that is not a long time, but I've printed the same volume for my non-profit in a month as a personal user might in an entire year. Also, this printer IS smaller than some of the expensive laser printers that many businesses use. It's mainly large when compared with most printers designed for home use.

2 No fax- I generally prefer not to send sensitive documents by fax and use Skype instead of a ground phone line. This printer does not have a fax, so you may want to get e-fax or use Skax if you use Skype (which I highly recommend because you can make domestic and foreign calls from your own number with voicemail for less than $100 a year).

3 Ink costs- The ink costs seem high. However, I got twice as much colour printing per ink cartridge as I did with the HP. So, while ink may appear to cost twice as much, the reality is that it probably costs about the same amount when actual volume per dollar is calculated. Buying in bulk or searching online for the lowest price will save money. The multipack containing all of the 8 ink cartridges seems to offer the most cost-effective solution, just remember that you will also need to purchase Black 5 pigment.

This is a 10 star printer out of a possible 5 stars. If it had a built-in fax, slightly smaller size, and less expensive ink, even my perfectionist self would be unable to find a single fault with this printer.

Aside from these three minor drawbacks, this printer is flawless.
For a printer in the $100-$200 price range, I would recommend this printer above all others I have encountered. Bravo, Canon.

Review: Amazing!
by: M. Tohfafarosh on date: June 11, 2007
Bought this printer about 4 months ago and all I can say is that this printer is amazing! The photo prints are so good that there is no way to tell they have been printed with a home printer and not on a professional machine. I have printed over 30 or so 4x6 highest quality prints on top of other regular printing and the ink levels are still at no less then 75%. If you are considering this printer, look no further...this one will not disappoint!

Review: Excellent printer, scanner, copier for the price
by: J. Minchilli on date: June 11, 2007
Just purchased the MP600 multi-function printer after my brother purchased one. Got to view it in action which you really don't get to see at local retailers. I have always been an EPSON user ever since I had a PC. My biggest complaint and problem with them were the heads consistently dried up and clogged and ultimately I used more ink cleaning them then actually printing documents and photos. The Canon MP600 is designed very well and performs beautifully. So far no problems with the heads clogging up. Granted I only had it for a couple of months. However the print head is removable and replaceable, so if clogging became a problem you could replace it. Unlike other brands which the heads are integrated into the unit and once they go your printer is basically dead. I like the LCD screen, the scroll wheel, and the menues are easily navigated. Very user friendly. Easy to set up. Although not a dedicated "photo" printer the photos I printed were crisp and vibrant compared to the actual photo. I read some reviews and few people complained about the quality of their prints. I just don't get it. I think some people just don't know how to set up and customize settings to get the print that you want. They just assume that the printer will do everything for them. Now granted there is no "perfect" printer out there. You can research every brand known to mankind and you will always find people writing something negative about it. However when you look at the reviews of this model from people using it how could you not give it a shot? Some people complained that it did'nt have a built in fax. There is a model, I think the MP 850 (may not be the right model #, but I did see it) which does have a fax built in for about $25 more. For me I never fax. Everything is scan and e-mail so I wouldn't buy that one. So to complain that it doesn't have a built in fax is irrelevant. Buy the one that best suits your needs. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions and they do help when making a decision so they are all valuable to a certain degree. Canon has a good reputation. They also produce highly rated devices with positive reviews. Not just on Amazon but other sites as well. If you're not happy with your current printer give this on a try. Hopefully your experience will be as positive as mine.

Review: Xanon MP600 MultiFunction Printer
by: volklguy on date: May 24, 2007
Canon Printers are the best printers in my opinion.
The MP600 replaced my old Canon I850 which quit after several years of use.
Print quality is excellent Photo images are crisp with vivid colors.
Copier & Scanner work effortlessly and moving from my I850 "printer only" to the multifunction MP600 automatically gave me more desk space.
Amazon two day delivery was right on time.
Definitely a ***** product.

Review: Unbelievably gorgeous!
by: Froggy Girl on date: May 23, 2007
I bought this printer after extensive research because it seemed like the best thing out there. With such glowing reviews, I wasn't sure if anything could live up to my expectations, but this baby exceeded them! It uses ink cartridges at about 1/4 the rate of my old HP, and each cartridge costs less than 1/2 as much, so with the amount I print as a college student, it will actually pay for itself by the end of the next school year. Besides the ink use, though, it's just beautifully designed, especially in terms of the scroll-wheel user interface. You can scan a PDF, make copies, etc. from the machine, rather than having to log into a control panel software on the computer like I did with my old HP. The top is completely flat and the screen folds down when you're not using it (and can actually stay shut while printing), so I got a little cloth to put over the top to protect the printer and it functionally extends the usable surface area of my desk, which no other printer has done. Also, for those who know something about printing, its register is incredible! I printed a sheet full of several hundred teeny tiny yellow stars, then printed the same image with blue stars right on top of it (I meant to print on the back but forgot to flip the paper over), and the result was perfect green stars with no side-to-side shifting at all. I've never encountered a printer that could do that. Also, this baby can print clean to the edge of 8.5x11, which means that when I need a school project to bleed off the edge, I no longer have to pay for an 11x17 print at the library and then trim it down manually. I honestly haven't had much call to use the scanner for photo-quality scans, so I can't speak to that much, but overall, I wouldn't change a thing. You won't find a better printer for anything close to this price!

Review: Fantastic Printer
by: katshan on date: May 20, 2007
I've owned several printers through the years - all of them substandard to this one. This is the best printer for the money. It's quality throughout. It's quiet, fast, crisp, clean printing. Easy to set up and install, in fact effortless. I would recommend it highly to anyone who needs to replace their old printer, or if you just need another one. This Canon Pixma MP600 will not disappoint in any way. You'll get more than you paid for.

Review: Did not work out of the box !!!!!!!!!!!
by: A. Amore on date: May 20, 2007
Bought this printer after reading glowing reviews and I liked how it looked. I got the printer home and followed the setup instructions carefully. When I got to the "add paper to automatically align the print heads" part of the setup, the paper would not even feed. It would crinkle up and jam. Seemed like one side of paper feed worked and other side did not, as it crinkled only on one side. After checking over and over for obstruction and following the trouble shooting and owners manual, I gave up and returned it for a refund. I'll never know how it printed cause it was a lemon from the start. Now I'm shopping for another printer.

Review: Works for me
by: Endoriana on date: May 13, 2007
My old 5-yr-old HP all in one died; I scoured the reviews, including Amazon's, and decided on this. So far, so good. My 11-year old son set it up--no problems. It's fast, does nice color on photos, doesn't take long to power up or down. I haven't been using it often enough to deal with changing ink yet, but both paper feeds work nicely, and it's not a hassle if you run out of paper in the middle of a print run--it just starts up exactly where it left off. Scanning is good, too--faster than I expected.

Review: Not Bad
by: Rob Glass on date: May 13, 2007
Customer support quite good - Despite prompt MP600 replacement and subsequently replacement of cassette tray, unit fails to feed sheets from cassette tray - MP600 seems thirsty - Printed fewer than 300 sheets in grayscale at low resolution when tank started blinking - Print quality still very adequate.
I like the convenient card reader ( rarely used ), and two-sided printing ( always used ).
Apart from cassette inconvenience, this very competitively priced printer/scanner/copier fills the bill for home use.

Review: Pixma MP600 Not recognizing ink tank
by: R. Cornell on date: May 10, 2007
The Pixma MP600 is a very nice printer. I've had this one for 5 weeks and the printing is good.
Pros: Easy to setup
Quiet
Good photo printing

Cons: Very expensive ink tanks

However, an error U150 "the following ink tank cannot be recognized" keeps coming up. I have re-inserted the ink tank (yellow) over and over. Each time the light comes on and it appears to recognize the tank which is amost full. But when the lid is closed again the error message returns. Canon support has been contacted. I would give this printer a 4.5 stars if it worked. Unfortunately once the error message appears there is nothing you can do, the menu is not available. There should be some way to bypass the color and print with black. So, with this printer, any error makes it unusable.
After five weeks of light useage I now have a very large paperweight.

Update as of May 10. Emailed Canon Care about the U150 error and received a reply within 24 hours. Tech support had me run tests on the other ink tanks and verified the serial number of the printer. A new yellow ink tank was shipped the same day.
Excellent support for this printer! Update stars to 4

Review: Great Buy
by: Burt Reynolds on date: May 9, 2007
There are practically far too many printers out there from which to choose. There must be a dozen different all-in-ones from five or six manufacturers each; but which one do you buy?

Canon has made that choice a lot easier. The Pixma MP600 is an impressive printer; it is a fully functioning photo printer, as well as copier, scanner, and printer. And, unlike most other printers, the MP600 does all four jobs spectacularly well. The photos come out vibrant and true to original color; the documents print precisely, the sanning and copying functions are up to par with far more expensive machines. And, what's more, the ink system has been upgraded. Instead of tossing out the entire color or black and white ink cartridge, the printer has five different dedicated cartridges. So, when the red or black or blue ink runs out you don't have to go out and buy another $40 replacement for just that one color. Also, the flip down display is very bright and easily navigated. The menus are intuitive and the entire printer is aesthetically pleasing.

All this for under $200 makes the MP600 and beautiful buy.

Review: Good printer until it jams
by: Michael G. Hahn on date: May 9, 2007
Bought the MP600 largely based upon the reviews I read here, and my initial impression was largely positive. Unfortunately, within a week I got a
paper jam message ( there is no jam ) and have never been able to clear the
message. Once you get this error, it is impossible to use the printer.
I did some further research and found out this is a common problem -just search the web for MP600 paper jam and you'll find dozens of cries in the dark by people who are in the same position as I am. Apparently there is no
solution other than to send the product back, which I haven't done. I'll probably just end up buying another printer and write this one off as a learning experience

Review: Canon PIXMA MP600 printer -- Not just for photos any more
by: Retired Geek on date: May 7, 2007
I've had this printer for about two months now, and it works fine. The ink levels are still full. Once it gets going, it prints quickly and well. I use a "quiet mode" setting option on the printer, which causes it to sometimes take a few (between 5 and 10) seconds before it starts printing the first page. There is no delay for subsequent pages, and this delay does not always occur. The printer isn't overly noisy, but it makes even less noise with "quiet mode" set.

I don't use the printer heavily, and have only used it for one photo. I got it because my older all-in-one printer seemed to always need ink when I wanted to use it. This printer is a lot more stingy on ink usage and the owner's manual gives tips on what to do when you don't use the printer much. (Turn it off when not in use, but print SOMETHING every now and then anyway, even if you really don't need to.)

This printer is well made, and has worked reliably and well. It has two paper sources. It can be used for office printing just as well as photo printing. It has a quiet mode setting (which I use) that lets the printer run a bit quieter at the expense of some printer speed. The front door of the printer (where the paper comes out) pops open if you print or copy and forgot to open it yourself.

I've had no problems with this printer, but did have a couple of usage questions. I e-mailed these question to Canon and they responded with answers that make sense.

I recommend this product for small office use, not just for photo printing. It's well built and works well. Ink is available locally, and you only need to buy the color you need. The product comes with standard ink cartridges, not those half-full ones you sometimes see. (One large black, three colors and a black color cartridge.)

Review: Good Machine but Misnamed
by: K. Donovan on date: April 25, 2007
This machine works beautifully. It's easy to set up, easy to use, and the quality of all its processes is outstanding.

However, I take issue with the fact that it is called an all-in-one machine when it does not provide the ability to fax. Yes, I can scan things into my computer and use another program to send faxes via the internet, but it was nonetheless disappointing to see it labelled an all in one machine when, in fact, it is not.

Wow! This printer is great. I have had it now for a couple months and have tested out most everything that it will do. It has far surpassed my expectations. My only suggestion would be to use genuine Canon photo paper with this printer. I tried to use Kodak photo paper and kept ending up pink colored faces and blondes with orange hair. The Canon photo paper makes the prints look photo lab quality.

The only reason I bought this printer was its 5 star rating on Amazon by about 100 users. I would give it 5 stars just many others as well. The set up was easy and printing is quiet and fast. I've had it for about 2 months now and used it for printing text, pictures and scanning documents as well. The photo prints were excellent quality. The menu display is superb and easy to navigate.

I've owned a lot of printers in my day, going way back to the dot matrix doorstop I owned back in the mid eighties and this one is categorically the best!

When I feed paper through the back, it comes through the other side with the appropriate markings on it!

And holy cow, the scanner and copier actually scans and copies with better-than-kinkos quality results!

I've recommended printers from this line to several friends and colleagues and they're all thrilled with them!

Review: Cannon all in one works one for all...uum..wait..
by: Robert L. King on date: April 12, 2007
I really like this machine. It does everything very well, I had a scanner and a printer and when my orinter crapped the bed I decided to get a new one. Weeell, good luck finding just a printer nowadays. At first I was very put off by the "all in one" philosophy, thinking it impossible to combine all these crucial tasks into one magical machine (I believe I even said "Hogwash!"). But alas, it is possible, and it even does these tasks better then the units in their separate incarnations.

The scan is fast (no "warming up the lamp" garbage) and the images crisp.

The printer is also very fast and the quality, even on the plain paper prints is outstanding.

I shopped around quite a bit before buying this, and if you are considering buying the Epson, don't. It is far more expensive to keep full of ink. The Cannon is less than half the price to refill all colors.

It even has a marvelous menu for using it without the computer (which I must admit I haven't done much with yet), a small color screen with an easy to navigate menu.

Great product, the scanner software is a little annoying though, but thats splitting hairs at this point.

Review: Cannon MP600 All-in-one
by: Carole J. Mareta on date: April 9, 2007
Having had HP, Epson and now Cannon all-in-ones, I believe this Cannon to be the best of the lot. Ease of operation and final quality performance are excellent. Only problem I can forsee is that you either have to purchase Cannon ink tank replacements, or use some double side tape to make generaic brands work in this machine. I haven't tried the generics yet, so I hope they work, cause the Cannon brand are much like the Lexmark brand, low machine price but extreemly high replacement ink cartridge costs. Oh well, you get nothing for nothing in this world. Good printing!

Review: Great looking prints - and it's FAST!
by: Stacey on date: April 9, 2007
My last printer was an HP Photosmart 7350. It worked well and I was happy with it but when I purchased a new MacBook Pro, my old printer was not compatible. After trying everything I could to get it to work, I realized I was going to have to get a new printer. After reading a bunch of reviews, decided on the MP600 and got it last week.

I love this printer!!! Love the display and the fact that when you scan you can preview what you're scanning so if it's crooked or not right, you can fix before you print. The time between the scan and the actual print is a tad slow, but the actual printing is fast and accurate. It was simple to set up and had no problems installing it on my Mac.

Some of the black on the first prints I made was a little grainy but it seems to have fixed whatever was doing it. The instructions for setup were clear and have had no problems with paper feed. I also love that there are 2 paper trays, one for photo paper and one for regular. My HP printed great but it was slow - this is great and very fast! Highly recommend this printer!

I almost bought a cheaper model at the store, but after reading the reviews here I decided to go with this one. Glad I did. Had it for about a monthy and after printing more than a dozen 8x10 color photos and dozens more color web pages/documents the ink cartridges have barely gone down. The quality is superb and I was impressed that it has 2-sided printing built-in. More feature-packed than I imagined and the fancy stuff just plain works.

Review: Cannon MP600

This is the best all-in-one printer I've ever owned. Our Epson (not reccomended) broke before my teen son's assignment was printed - of course I needed to repace ASAP but couldn't find this model on display anywhere in the 4th largest city in the country. Anyway, having been so dissappointed with our previous printers, I was determined not to purchase an Epson or HP again due to the excessive expense of the ink replacement cartridges. Our printer is used for home and school use only and we were averaging total ink replacements at least 4 times per year at $70 each time. I read all the positive reviews and decided to wing-it without a printer until the Cannon MP600 arrived. I have been so very pleased with this product. I lucked into finding an instant rebate with free shipping and it arrived with three days, although they tell you 7-10 working days. We purchased it the beginning of Jan 07 and the remaining ink levels are on the half-way mark (we select the "fast" print to conserve when we can, and is good print quality for school work) and the ink cartrige for photo printing is still at the full mark, and we've printed quite a few. The ink cartiridges are still just as expensive as the HP & Epson, but I expect to get twice the use from this and it is a great, sturdy printer for kids and teens! Tip: purchase the cable when you buy the unit $8

Review: A great multifunction printer at a great price!
by: IMO666 on date: April 2, 2007
Love it! From start to finish, it took about 90 minutes to unpack it and, following the instructions, install the print head and the 5 ink cartridges, install the drivers from the included CD, register the printer online, and print test pages.

I've run it through all of its functions (print/scan/copy), and it's easy to use, and has very good speed and excellent print quality. It has slots for memory cards, but unfortunately not for USB thumb drives. Of course, like most printers it did not ship with a USB cable.

OCR and PDF-creation software is included.

Gotta love its two-sided printing, and its two paper trays. All things considered, this machine works flawlessly, and all functions are seamless. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision to purchase the Canon MP600!

Installation instructions were mostly clear, and the print head and ink cartridges installed with no problem. Same for the drivers on my computer running Windows XP SP2. There are special instructions for Vista users.

Review: Canon PIXMA MP600 a Winner
by: Peggy L. Burkett on date: March 30, 2007
I really love this all in one Canon scanner, copier, printer. There were a couple parts of the setup that were tricky (instructions could be simplified and made better) BUT other than that it was so easy to use and user-friendly, I really didn't even hardly look at instructions on that. Pictures print out great, scanner REALLY fast, does great quality. I have not used the copier a lot but I'm sure it will be high quality like the other two functions. I highly recommend it. P.S. I'm not thrilled about how MUCH the printer cartridges are going to cost to replace, but I'm not sure how long they last yet either. If they go the distance and it may not be too bad but wish the price were a little better on those.

Review: Does not live up to reviews
by: Michelle on date: March 29, 2007
I bought the Canon PIXMA MP 600 based on all the glowing reviews after much research. I am disappointed. I don't know what people are printing that gave it such great reviews, but my cheap old Lexmark printed just as well. Yes, set up was easy, but it's the actual printing that really matters to me.

First, you have to figure out how to trick the machine into printing high quality by lying to it about which paper you've installed; only then can you use the detail printing scale to improve print quality. And then, the quality is about average. Keep in mind, I did not buy this for printing photos only. Mostly I print stationery and cards.

Also, after just 5 or 6 weeks of light use, I am already out of magenta ink. Apparently, I could override the system, getting it to print anyway, but then Canon says that might permanently damage the machine.

Overall, print quality is only average. And for the price and reviews, I expected more. I will also end up spending a small fortune on ink because it does not last long. It scans fine, and I haven't need to make copies yet. I would NOT recommend this printer to anyone who needs it primarily as a printer.

Review: Best printer I've had except...
by: Jean on date: March 28, 2007
This is the best printer I've had except for a couple items. The scanning is excellent, the photo printing and black and white print are both quick and good quality. I tried over and over to make a decent color copy from a photo - it was horrible, but since I was able to get a very good scan to print, this is not a major problem. It seems the toner goes very quickly, and like all toner, costs plenty. Look for promotions to get some savings at least on the paper. Canon paper does perform best for the photos - all the software is set up to optimize their paper product line. Still and all, pretty easy to use and reliable - so far (two months).

After a little more than a month I couldn't be happier with the MP600. It is fast, quiet, and produces outstanding results. Its function wheel is very intuitive and the menus are relatively clear and easy to navigate. For the home or home office it does everything you could want except for faxing which is not a real deterent since it can be done through your computer.

Review: so far, so good
by: E. Pratt on date: March 28, 2007
I bought this printer because I had to keep replacing the ink cartridge in my old one. The printer worked good, but I got tired of always paying for ink when I wanted to use it.
This is the best printer I have ever had,,,,,,so far. It prints faster and does a better job than any other one I've had, and I've had a few. I don't know yet how long the ink will last, but it's already better than what I had. I think the ink dried up in my old one before I used it all, because I didn't use it much. This one doesn't seem to do that yet. I think it's gonna be a good one.

Review: great printer

the printer's quarity is great. It spent less ink and print good photos(even better than some of the photo printers). But it's a little bit noisy.

Review: Not Recommended.
by: J. Lehman on date: March 27, 2007
I've had this printer for 5 months. It worked fine for 3 months. Now, all it will do is tell me the Canon black cartridge cannot be recognized, even though it is almost full of ink. Canon does not even list this model on it's tech support website, and troubleshooting gives no helpful information.
I have removed and re-installed the cartridge a dozen times....the light comes on momentarily, but when I try to print, scan, or copy, it goes out and again I get the "can't recognize the cartridge" notice. Canon charges ten bucks for support. Bad deal.

I've had the printer for two weeks and have found it to be all it's claimed to be and then some. The only function I find lacking is the duplex printing...but then how often will anyone need that in a home situation.

Review: EXCELLANT ALL IN ONE!
by: Martina Mitchell on date: March 26, 2007
I have been battling with an Epson Stylus CX6600 all in one before I decided to purchase this canon. I held my breathe while it printed my first photo---I was so delighted it is excellant. The photos it turns out is very close to lab quality.
You see I own my own photo studio and I'm a professional photographer, I needed a better all in one then I was using, and after reading reviews on the canon I decided to buy it. It was the best purchase on an all in one I have ever made.I highly recommend this all in one----buy it you won't be disappointed.

So far I have not use the machine that much. It prints, copies and scans clear so far. When I tried to print pictures from my computer I had problems one came out clear as a bell and the others had splots and lines through them. I tried again with the same problem. I have not figured out if it was the picture quality or the printer yet. Overall I got this machine at a very good price so I am happy with what I can do with it so far.

Review: Love the 600

I had the i900 canon printer before the 600. Both are great photo printers, but I love the convenience of the scanner with the printer.

Review: Love This Printer
by: Rock Bottom on date: March 25, 2007
I really love this printer. No need to go into all the technical mumbo jumbo, it's all been said already. I have always had HP's but made the change and am pleased I did. I would have given it 5 stars but, I actually had to send the first one I received back to Amazon for replacement as it had internal communication problems. The Canon tech was very helpful and stated that mine was the first he had seen with that particular problem.

Amazon was speedy with the replacement. I had it on my doorstep before I could even get the other one disconnected. Amazon is so great! Terrific prices and great customer service if you talk to the right customer service rep. If you don't, hang up and call until you do!

Review: Full Ink Cartridge not recognized by new printer
by: P. Wagner on date: March 25, 2007
I bought my MP600 about a month ago. For no apparent reason the printer has stopped recognizing the full yellow ink cartridge. I insert & reinsert multiple times and about 10% of the time I can get the printer to recognize the cartridge. Come on! I shouldn't have to fiddle with my printer like this after only 30 days! I'm very disappointed with this problem. However, when it does work, I do like the quality and speed. Therefore I'm torn if I would invest in a Canon in the future. Good quality printing, however unrealiable printer.

Review: Canon's Tops with Me
by: STANLEY LOMBARDO on date: March 24, 2007
First, let me say how helpful the previous reviews were in my selection of this product. Advice to Amazon purchasers not yet familiar with the system: Read the reviews! Next, rather than elaborate on any previous reviews, I'll simply say that I bought this multipurpose printer at an excellent price on Amazon and was immediately impressed with its performance: it met or exceeded all of my expectations.

One disappointment: the scanner does not come with software that enables conversion of scanned documents to word files that can be corrected or emended. Such a program is mentioned in the onscreen documentation, but it does not appear to be part of the software suite on the drivers CD. By the way, I experienced a bit of trouble in installing some of the drivers, and the Canon tech-support people were extremely helpful. Overall, a five-star rating!

Review: Very good printer.
by: Amy on date: March 24, 2007
Quick shipping (as always with Amazon). Quick, easy set-up. Ink cartridges light up to let you know they have installed properly. Camera card does not "click" in, but you just push the card in as far as it can go and the little screen recognizes it right away. My kids think it's cool that the front door automatically pops open when you send a document to the printer preventing any paper jam. My old Epson CX6400(less than 2 yrs.)is a piece of junk and has been thrown away. The ink dried up because of not being used in a couple of weeks and that was then end of it. Don't buy an epson - even though the quality of the prints were good. This Canon is very quiet compared to the Epson. It produces very good pictures. Only draw back is that the first document you send to the printer during a session has about a 1 minute delay. weird. From then on, it's quick. I would definately recommend this printer.

Review: Best Quality at an Unbeatable Price!
by: Joseph Vymetal on date: March 23, 2007
I bought this all-in-one printer after reading dozens of reviews on a multitude of all-in-one printers on the web. I took this printer into serious consideration due to it's great reviews & I have always had great luck with Canon products for their quality & their reasonable prices. This printer is so simple to use "even a cave man can do it." The menu w/click wheel and 2.5" screen is super easy to use. Plus, it is handy when you want to print or copy w/o using your computer. The photo quality is exceptional for the all-in-one's in this price range of about 150.00 on up.

My friend spent 400.00 on his HP C7180, and side by side he admitted my photo print at the best resolution was better than his! Not bad for more than $250 less than his. Granted the C7180 has built-in bluetooth, a fax machine, wireless networking, and a larger screen by 1.1". For that high of a price difference who cares? when the Canon's photo print Resolution is 9600x2400 dpi vs. 4800 x 1200 of the HP C7180. That's double the resolution. Not to mention more printing nozzles than any other printer in it's class. More print nozzles = finer print quality. Eventhough on paper it says it's the same reolution doesn't mean it is the same quality, especially when you print a picture or something that requires any detail. Printing on the 2nd to best 4x6 glossy photo paper set to best photo-print settings the picture looks like a photo lab quality picture. No kidding... my wife, family, and friends couldn't tell a difference. I am sure a trained eye could, but you'll have to squint or look twice!

Now, as far as size goes. It is big all-in-one, don't let the small picture fool you. I was suprised when it arrived. For the price you are gonna get the biggest & best bang for your buck. Do the right thing and buy this printer! That is if print quality, price, ease of use, and overall product quality is important to you. What are you waiting for? I bought it & am soooo glad I did!

Review: Printer is Rude
by: C. Haynie on date: March 23, 2007
The Printer is nice, but the associated software is rude. They put links to their documents into the Word and WordPad menu. They color their entries in the program list. The point is that if everyone did this sort of thing, the computer would be irritating and unusable. They don't need to advertise themselves after the customer has installed the printer. For this reason alone, I wouldn't buy this thing.

Review: Good Printer

Printing is fast and photos are great. Note that the canon web to page tool does not work with the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer. The web to page tool is only supported by by version 5.5 and version 6.0.

Other than this problem with printing HTML documents properly (no cut-off views) the printer is very good.

Review: Great All-in-One printer!
by: David L. George on date: March 21, 2007
The new Canon was purchased for our desktop after I had trouble with our HP psc 1315v All-in-One software after a IE security update and moved it to my wifes laptop where it continues to work. The Canon is approx 1" taller and wider and about 5" deeper than the HP but the software features and print quality blow the HP away.

This is a GREAT unit!

Review: Outstanding Multifunction Printer
by: Sara-s on date: March 21, 2007
I bought this to replace another Canon printer and separate scanner. Both were good products, but a multifunction printer frees up some space. It's a bit big, but not the biggest unit I saw and certainly smaller than the 2 items it replaces.

Onto its good points;
The resolution is high and it prints beatiful photos. It is quiet and has duplex printing and a second print tray, to make life a bit easier. The scanner lid lifts up enough to scan from a book and the scanner software is easy to use. It can be used in copier mode, or print from a memory card without even turning on the computer. In addition, it uses a separate ink cartridge for each color, which saves money on ink.

I like the LCD screen; while small, it is bright and easy to read. I even like the look of the printer.

I am extemely pleased with it, but it does have a couple of drawbacks. Firsly, it doesn't come with a USB cable (although I think that's the usual practice.) Secondly, it is Bluetooth compatile, but that means you must buy the Canon adapter. A generic Bluetooth adapter won't work and the Canon one costs about $50- (about a third of the cost of the printer)
If the cost comes down, I'll go wireless.

For now, it's wired, but still a good purchase.

Review: Best thing since the Internet!
by: Tricia Love on date: March 21, 2007
It is not often I go overboard about a piece of electronic equipment, but honestly, it is so simple a caveman could use it! (sorry Geico). It is so streamlined, and so efficient, I congratulate Canon every time I use it. This wonderful machine sits in the same position once occupied by my old rubbish of a Lexmark printer and does the work of several machines. Now I have an extra bookshelf where my old scanner used to be and this machine looks really good, I am very proud of it. If like me you want simplicity, efficiency and good looks at a reasonable price this is the one. Copying, just switch on, dial copy, press number of copies, press black or colored, press OK and go. Scanning just dial scan, press OK, and follow the instructions on the screen. It prints documents and photographs beautifully. So far it has been a very faithful servant and money very well spent.

I would buy another Canon in a heart-beat, though I hope to have this one a long time.
I love it.

This printer does everything it says it can do. The printer is primarily used for my business. Documents and copies print crisp and clear. It scans beautifully. Pictures print fast and the color and detail is wonderful. You can print either previously downloaded pictures through your computer or through the disk directly in the printer which will download the pictures to your computer.

I would highly recommend this printer.

amazon's prices, shipping and customer service is outstanding. the mp600 printer is also outstanding. in less than 30 minutes from taking the printer out of the box, i had printed a test document. that's with the printer connected to my computer. I use the mp600 mostly for greeting cards with "the print shop 22" software i also purchased through amazon. i print out several different card sizes and types, use several different card stock, and print out envelopes from small note size to large 1/2 fold, all with no problems at all. the mp600 is a little slow printing 2 sided projects though, but not too unbearable. all-in-all, i have purchased quite a few items through amazon and find them hard to beat in quality, price and customer service. their free shipping is quite slow, sometimes 2 weeks, but it's free, so no complaints!

Review: Great Printer
by: A. Paoli on date: March 16, 2007
I'm not going to go nuts on this review because I haven't tested each and every feature of the printer just yet, but from what I have experienced thus far I am very happy with my purchase.

Print quality is great, especially on Canon Photo Paper.

Having the SD card slots built into the printer is a huge bonus considering that it allows you to print out your photos without even having a computer running (yes, I know this is nothing new but this is my first printer for a while). Also, if you have the SD card in the slot on the printer and the printer is connected to your PC then it lets the printer work as an access point to the card itself so you can add, delete, or copy files to the PC, also a very nice feature.

All in all a great investment for me. I think that the ink might be a bit pricey right off the shelves, but you can get deals online to avoid that problem. It's also VERY nice that the ink comes in separate containers for each color.

Excellent printer. No problems, prints quietly & quickly. Makes copies quickly too. I have printed quite a few cards & pictures all turning out very nice. I've only had it a few weeks and have yet to buy the ink cartridges to see how much they run.I love the scroll wheel, digital screen, choices between top and bottom paper feeds. Not too noisy . Review: Couldn't Canon have plugged it in first?
by: richard macirella on date: March 9, 2007
After much tedious internet research, I ordered this printer from Amazon. When it arrived, it seemed much more substantial than any other printers I've owned. I thought, "oh boy, maybe this won't self destruct like the other plastic wonders I've owned." Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find out, because as soon as I plugged it in, an error message came up, the machine was incapacitated. Read the manual, and on-line manual, their fix was to unplug the machine, and then plug it back in after a little while.I did that a few times, to no avail. E-mailed Canon, they said there was a three day wait for a reply. That sounded ominous, were they that backed up with problems? Anyway, having read some others' reviews and problems with Canon service, I decided that life was too short to mess around with this, so I sent it back to Amazon, who promptly refunded my money and shipping expenses. (Five stars to Amazon!). Finally got a reply from Canon after I had sent the printer back, advising me to send the printer back! Anyway, having to go through the aggravation of repacking it, mailing it, insurance, receipt requested etc., when this all could have been avoided if Canon had perhaps plugged the thing in to see if it worked before they shipped it. Makes you wonder about their quality control....

Review: Excellent Printer/Scanner/Copier **Should be 10 Stars!!!
by: Mary on date: March 9, 2007
I LOVE THIS PRINTER! My last Canon Printer lasted 5 years with heavy use. I am a student and am continually printing research documents as well as rough draft and final draft papers. The ink is I think reasonably priced at $10-15 each-and it LASTS! Also, if you purchase it from Amazon and buy the combo pack you can get free shipping and pay no taxes. Amazon has the best price on the ink. So far I have printed over 3 reams of paper with this baby and I have only had to replace one black cartridge. The others are showing nearly full. That would not have happened on a previous HP printer, nor will you get those results with a Dell printer.
All of the features are extremely easy to use, I like that the lid lifts up a bit so you can easily copy a page from a book (which I did alot of for my last class). It has two paper trays which I love and I also like the fact that it can automatically duplex print, which saves on paper and also saves on time, because you don't have to sit there and manually flip the page over and reload it to print side two. This printer will do that for you.

Canon put alot of quality in this product. I highly recommend it!

Review: one month old and broken
by: Girls' Mom on date: March 9, 2007
I bought this printer one month ago after reading all the great reviews on Amazon. I have been loving the printer until it just stopped working yesterday. I spent the whole day with the brochure and web site trying to get it going again. I finally called tech support and he told me it needed repairs and that my choices were to take it to an authorized repair location and pick it up after it had been fixed (however long that would take) or they would send me a refurbished printer. I explained that it was brand new and under warranty and that I wanted a new printer. Not a choice. I opted to have the refurbished printer within three days versus being without for an undetermined amount of time. I did tell him I would be putting a negative review on Amazon.

Review: Spectacular
by: R. Smith on date: March 9, 2007
I'm not overly familiar with printers in general (I am a gamer), but when I got this for my Girlfriend for her B-day I was pleasantly surprised. The print quality is unmatched in my opinion. It tears through normal pages in a few seconds, and actual pictures in 20 seconds or so. It's a little large, but for the quality it gives I would say it's a fair trade off. I recomend this printer to anyone.

When I say Fastest I mean it. This is the 4th all in one I have purchased over the years & this was the fastest to set up & learn the different functions. Works great. Print quality on printed material & photos is way above average. Scan time is also very fast. The double paper feeds are something every printer should have, it makes switching betwee different print jobs a breeze instead of a hassle. The price was great. I am very happy with this printer. Review: Sleek and functional
by: pamsaunt on date: March 7, 2007
Duplex printing, multiple ink cartridges, clean text at decent print speed, and sharp photos make for a very nice printer at a reasonable price. This one also fit the limited footprint I had on my desktop. What I didn't notice at first- but really like- are the clean lines of this machine. When it gets shut down, everything automatically folds up into a black and silver box that keeps dust off the important parts. It re-opens as needed. Another bonus is that Canon's ink doesn't wash away as readily as some other inkjet inks (i.e., Brother) do. If it were able to be networked, I'd have given it 5 stars.

Review: Canon Pixma MP600
by: Michigan Mike on date: March 7, 2007
This is a really nice machine. The amount of features on a machine in this price range is really incredible. The print quality and speed is excellent, and I like the enclosed 8x11 paper cassette under the unit (most canon's load the paper from the rear which collects dust and clogs the print head). This unit does have the rear paper feeder as well, but is used for loading specialty paper like envelops and photo paper which is a really nice feature. You can close the rear feeder when not in use to keep the dust out. The duplex feature work pretty nice, not real fast, but is convenient.
The scanner works very well, and the user interface allows you to make color copies from scanner to printer without using the computer.
This is my forth Canon printer, and I have to say this is the best one yet.

Review: Great All In One So Far!
by: Alan S. Kent on date: March 1, 2007
I just received my new printer, which I ordered on 2/22/07 and received 2/27/07 with the free shipping. What a great deal for $141 with coupon. I am a Realtor, and use my printer a lot to print flyers, brochures, mls sheets, letters, etc. So, I need a versatile printer with good speed, quality, and photos. I have utilized an Epson in the past, which was ok. But, for over 3 years now, I have been using the HP2210 at work and at home. The only fault I find with the HP was after a while it won't print, so I have to reboot my computer to start all over. This was very annoying, especially when someone is standing in front of me waiting on a printout. So, I researched for several days after one of my HP'S got jammed on me. It took about 45 minutes to set up. Thankfully I read enough reviews, so I knew what to expect. I first tried to print out my typical photos for a brochure, which took about 75 seconds. That is much quicker than my HP. And, the quality of the print was equivalent to my HP, which I was happy with. The speed of printing a flyer is fast at about 10 seconds. That is much quicker than the HP, and there is a fast setting, which would make it even quicker. One really nice thing is that it is really quiet and doesn't act like it is going to take off from my desk, which the HP was known for doing. It looks great, and is well built with more metal than the HP. I love the 2 trays to print paper from, so I don't have to swap paper when going from a printout to a color brochure. One thing I will tell you about the paper trays, which nobody ever mentions, is that one paper tray is directly under the output at the front of the printer. That's what I wanted for easy access, The other is at the top of the back of the unit. I will update my review, if anything out of the ordinary comes up during my break-in stage. I never use a scanner, so it was not important to me.

Review: Canon PIXMA MP600
by: KMac on date: March 1, 2007
I have had this printer for over a month now and love it. Set up was very easy along with installing the cartridges. This machine is very quiet when it prints. The first page takes about 15 - 20 seconds to print, but after that the print speed is impressive. Printing photos is easy. Choose your media and off you go. Facial tones of pictures taken in an indoor setting have been turning out a little yellowish/red. Pictures taken in an outdoor setting come out just fine. I might try a different paper for the indoor shots and see if that makes a different. The software that comes with the Canon allows borderless prints which we love. I love this printer and would recommend it to anyone.

Review: Love It

I wanted a printer that would do the best job at photo printing, so I decided to switch from a plain old, regular Epson to this Canon model. I chose Canon, in part, because my digital camera is a Canon and takes amazing photos. This printer does an excellent job printing photos as well as text documents. The scanner and copier are icing on the cake. The printer is impressive looking, and I like the cassette and manual feed options for your print media. I keep paper in the cassette and the manual feed set up for 4 X 6 photo paper. It's easy to set-up and use. For the price, I don't think you can do better.

Very sturdy; very attractive; very functional; very user fiendly. I switched to Canon and there's no looking back. Customer Support blows away the others. They sent me Vista drivers on CD via next day service!

Works like a charm on XP and Vista. Love this unit!

Review: Very Satisfied
by: J. Davis on date: February 23, 2007
I've had this AIO printer for two or three weeks now. I am very impressed with Canon and especially the MP600 All-in-one photo printer. It replaces an older HP882C Desk Jet and an Epson 1370 scanner. It was very easy to setup. It took about an hour. Photos are exceptionally sharp. It is so much faster than my old HP and the overall quality of photos and printed material is much improved. I like having two paper sources; the cassette and the sheet feeder so you can keep two kinds of paper loaded all of the time. The control panel is simple; not a lot of buttons making it easy to use. Scanning is very easy and produces excellent, if not better, results than the original documents. For the money, there is a lot of value in this machine. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to use all of its features. It also has a fairly big footprint on my computer table.

great photo printer! I read the reviews and decided to try the Canon over HP. It is quiet, very fast and prints great photos. Love the fact that it has a top and bottom loading print tray. It is a bit large but has a great scanner and good photo program for basic editing.

Review: A Learning Curve
by: P. E. THEBERGE Sr. on date: February 19, 2007
This is my first multi-function printer so I have had to learn some new ways to do some of the functions. Quality of copying, scanning and printing are very good. I am still learning the photo side of this printer. That is giving me the most challenge.
The two sided printing feature is OK but a bit awkward. When printing many double sided copies I find it easier to do all of one side then reload the printed paper upside down to do the other side.
I have learned to put the print quality on speed priority to save ink. I used up the black quite fast.

My first Canon printer. I went from a Chevy to a Cadillac. Actually HP PSC1210 to Canon MP600. Spent a week reading reviews and comparing before clicking on MP600.. AMAZON HAD A SUPER PRICE WITH FREE SHIPPING. Great photos, and print quaility. Very user friendly.
I had just purchased a new laptop and it had Windows Vista and my HP printer software would not load in Vista. That gave me an excuse for a new printer. The Canon software was not ready for Vista, either. A very patient and knowledgable Canon support person walked me through the setting up of Vista. It worked , no trouble. The support help was here in the good old USA and I could understand him perfectly.

The only con remark is the set up instructions. The people who make these instructuions need to detail them more. I broke a small piece of plastic off inside under the grey lift bar. The instructions said it would be "heavy to lift". I took them at their word and used too much force. It was not a critical mistake, and the printer works fine without that piece of plastic.

All in all a great machine. Can recommend.

Review: Fantastic pictures!

This printer is easy to set up, easy to use, and prints fantastic photos when using quality photo paper. Some leftover inexpensive photo paper produced so-so pics. Also easy to use to print pics/documents from memory cards inserted right into the printer w/o the need for an additional card reader. Unlike our previous HP printer, the paper has yet to jam, no error messages, a very pleasant change from the aggravation of that printer. You get what you pay for, definitely. Also, the price was significantly less than retail. Shipping was quick, too.

Review: you won't find a better multi-function printer in this price range
by: Reviewer on date: February 15, 2007
I spent days researching multifunction printers and the Pixma MP600 had everything I wanted. It prints. It scans (quickly). It photocopies (producing very crisp images in color and black and white). It also had all the "nice to have" extras I was hoping for but didn't want to pay extra to get: double-sided copying. Prints from a memory card and a PictBridge enabled camera. Has a fold down 2.5 inch LCD screen with a scrolling wheel to choose functions with. It was highly rated on three well-known tech review sites as well as by the majority of buyers on this site, with virtually no negative feedback - which is quite a feat. And the price was nice. The only thing holding me back before buying was the five individual ink tanks, which I realized would probably end up being more economical in the long run than having to replace one combined tri-color cartridge when a specific color ran low.

I bought it at BestBuy the other day for a surprisingy low price I'm not allowed to mention apparently and Amazon has just dropped the price as of this writing below that. The Pixma replaces my old HP 920c, and while there's no comparison as far as functionality goes, here are some reasons why I deducted a star for the Pixma:

- Looks: no raving beauty, it has a boxy style and is a bit clunky, with an extending auto sheet feeder whose flimsiness recalled to mind an old Brother word processor I owned back in the day when WP's were the ultimate in high tech devices.

- Set up and general information: I had been spoiled by HP's hand-holding set up CDROMs and easy-to-follow instructions and experienced nothing of the sort with the Pixma. I am not a novice in such matters, but Canon's instructions do tend to leave you guessing. The unit's parts are not identified with corresponding numbers when you go through the "easy setup" process. For example: "Open the sheet feeder cover and pull out the paper support, then the paper output tray and open the output tray extension." Huh? Which is which? Is the sheet feeder cover thing in the front of the machine? Is it in the back? WHERE is it? I finally found it an eternity later, lurking under a hidden cover in the back of the machine. The instructions seem to assume a previous knowledge of Canon printers. There were also shipping tapes everywhere, and it wasn't immediately clear how to remove one stuck inside the unit which I didn't even see until after I had turned the printer on.

Additionally, during the critical ink tank installation phase, where you are warned not to touch the electrical contacts or the ink ports - easily enough done when there are NO diagrams showing the correct position to hold them while installing - you are left guessing. The first step in this portion is to install the print head. There are a couple of implied threats about damaging the unit if you get this part wrong, but no guidance on how to hold it, which way it goes in, etc.: here it merely says: "Intall the print head".

A word about Canon's descriptive powers when it comes to explaining the functionality of their products on their website as well as in the product manual itself: Poor. I had to check three different sites (Amazon, PCmag, and Cnet) to find answers to the most basic questions - how many sheets of paper do the trays hold? Does it print double-sided? and so on. Again Canon leaves you guessing on the feature-specific questions you most want answers to, and you have to look elsewhere to find them. Even in the provided manual, under paper information, the number of sheets you can put in is expressed in maximum inches and centimeters of the overall stack, not by the number of sheets of paper. Not helpful unless you prefer to whip out a ruler every time you put a stack of paper in the trays. (Let me save you the trouble - 150 sheets of plain paper can go in the auto sheet feeder and 150 can fit in the hidden "cassette" tray on the bottom of the unit).

-Construction: Though the unit has a solid sturdy frame the flimsiness of some of its parts cannot be overlooked. The lock lever on the print head cartridge is tough to lift, and wants to immediately slam back down as soon as you let go of it. Though you're directed to put it back down gently, this is a bit hard to do. The lever seems in danger of snapping off at any minute. Fortunately you are not required to touch it when installing new ink tanks, as far as I can tell.

As previously mentioned the plastic auto sheet feeder and extension support are on the flimsy side and tend to collapse downward at the slightest jostle.

If the above general recommendations for improvement were made this would be a stellar product. As it is it's very good. The copies are sharp and crisp. The print quality on text documents is also sharp. The scanner works quickly and can covert a document to a PDF or jpeg for emailing. The quality of the scans are not so great, but it suits my needs. Thus far I haven't used the printing feature from memory cards or digital camera, but the color and black-and-white photos, even lower res ones taken with a PDA that I printed on plain, non-photographic paper were so sharp and crisp I can only guess that images taken with a digital camera and printed on photographic paper on this unit are going to be as impressive as other reviewers say they are.

I would highly recommend this machine if you want to print, copy, and scan and do not need a legal-sized flatbed scanner or a fax, as this has neither.

Glad this is the printer I wound up with. I read lots of reviews before purchasing and I'm very happy with the results. The quality of the prints are not mind blowing but they are better than anything produced by an HP of similar quality. It is also a substantial piece of equipment, doesn't feel or look like [...] which seems to be the case with a lot of printers these days. I also like that I can replace one color of ink at a time, saves ink and waste!

I got this printer for my father, who is very new to computers. I set it up for him, and he was able to figure out how to scan, copy, and print documents in only a few minutes just by looking at the screen and buttons. For more experienced users that would be considered a given, but this Canon is designed to be very clear and unintimidating. The scan and print quality is also wonderful, even on plain paper. I highly recommend this device for anyone who wants a quality, affordable, easy to use device.

Review: Most bang for your buck
by: Blanka711 on date: February 12, 2007
Got this AIO (All In One) about a month ago and needed to upgrade my IBM scanner and Hp Deskjet 5550. So far so good, the printer is amazingly quiet and fast. The print quality is excellent and the photo's are superb. Really enjoy the additional LCD screen and the ability to pop my memory cards directly into the printer for prints. Amazing functionality for what you pay for. The scanner was kind of disappointing due to really grainy and slow scans at the 1200 dpi setting. However, after downloading updated drivers and switching out the old USB cord with a new Tripp-Lite USB 2.0 with gold adapters, the scanning improvement was immediate, and lo and behold, the grains went away. Phew!

All in all have had no problems and enjoy the features and function of this AIO.

Cons: kinda big and bulky design, and pretty heavy, designed for a table top placement. USB cord not included, what?!

Pros: best bang for your buck. Super quiet printing with 33 ppm color prints. Scanner is decent after upgrading drivers and purchasing USB 2.0 cord. 5 Seperate ink cartridges: BK, PGBK, Y,M,C (Black, yellow, magenta, cyan) for better ink efficiency. Multiple memory card sets for digital cameras including USB. Dual paper trays which can be switched prior to printing. And last but not least, when printer is turned off a printing head is automatically placed on ink cartridges to prevent drying.

Review: Best printer overall
by: Leon K. Soto on date: February 6, 2007
Normally, you see a very colorful photo or picture on the screen but when you get it printed, the colors are rarely as good as they look on the screen. But with the PIXMA MP600, what you see is what you get - and that's at the standard setting. And it is super fast. I have used several printers since 1997, and this is the best. And the price is very reasonable. The scanner has many features that other scanners do not have. Very easy to use. I give it 5 stars to the printer, and 4 stars to the scanner.

Fast printing, Great Price, Free Shipping, I thought at the time that the shipping took a little while but it was free. Now that I have this wonderful printer I know why I waited for it. My scanned documents looked better after they were scanned and imaging did not take that long. The Canon CD was loaded with great software. I printed a photo on plain white paper. It looked so good my mother in-law put it in a picture frame and it looks like a real photo. Plus when I printed it only took a few seconds. This printer is smarter than smart I am amazed. It don't have a fax, well email works just as well and in the rare occasion I need to fax, I'll break out an old school phone modem and fax away. PC MAGAZINE BEST BUY, A TRUE WINNER. I had a Canon bubble jet in 98', a bother mfc in 2001', an Epson c80 in 2003, an hp desk jet in 2005, and a cheap Lexmark all in one in 2006. This Printer blows them all away.

Review: Wish we had discovered Canon earlier
by: Jerry Walker on date: February 1, 2007
In short, as has been said, this is the best printer we have ever owned. Over 18 years we have gone from Epson dot-matrix to HP and Epson inkjets. My wife, a teacher, uses the printer every night. When our Epson gave up (too soon), and their help people advised me to just buy a new one, I started shopping. This Canon seemed worth a try, but it has turned out to be much better than that. It is great! Everything is simple, from the set up to printing to copying. We didn't even read the manual, just tried punching buttons, and it worked! It is far quieter than the Epson, prints faster and with sharper text. We don't have any interest in printing photos, so don't know how that does. We can honestly say that every time we do a print job, as I just did with multiple pages for the IRS, we are thrilled that we bought this printer.

Review: Simply the Best inkjet I've ever owned...
by: R. Allan on date: January 31, 2007
Having had inkjet printers now for over 10 years I have finally found the one that does everything so easily and beautifully. The speed is amazing (upto 30ppm for Black and also 25 seconds for 6x4 full color photos) along with the quality.

The other great thing about this printer is not only the price (as low as $150 now) but it also prints on inkjet CD/DVD's (with the additional purchase for US verisons of the CDR plate due to a copyright law).

Just an amazing all in one printer.

Review: The Cannon PIXMA MP600 is Easily the best printer I have ever used!
by: G. E. Glaum on date: January 28, 2007
Ever noticed how most so-called Photo Printers eith make everything so complicated you avoid using them, or the photo quality is so grainy and the color so off that you end-up going to Walgreens Photo Dept, anyway? Well, this Cannon PIXMA MP600 is the answer to all of those toubles, and more! The PIXMA MP600 is a jewel of a printer, manufactured with high quality, ease of use, and versitility in mind. I particular enjoy the one-touch scanning, and the Easy Scroll Wheel, in tandem with the on-board LCD screen which makes selecting, adjusting, and managing your prints a breeze from the printer or from your computer. Another plus is the fact that Cannon seperates the ink colors into five different ink pots. This means you save a great deal of money by replacing only the ink pot that contains the color of ink that you need, when it is needed, instead of replacing one big, EXPENSIVE cartridge. Each pot costs around 10-12 bucks, as opposed to the all-in one cartride costing upwards of 80 dollars. I also noticed that since these ink pots are seperated, the ink lasts a lot longer (partly because each pot contains so much more ink than the all-in one cartridges). But on top of the savings and convenience, the ease of use is amazing! No complicated, confusing adjustments to make (unless you WANT to make them, then those controls are avilable to you) you literally press a button and you scan, copy, and print documents, as well as print photos. You can use the provided photo suite software, or you can make adjustments on the LCD screen and print directly from your Phone, Digital cam or even from your digital camera's memory card with the on-board memory reader. To sum-up, I give the Cannon PIXMA MP600 an 11 out of 10 for versatility, ease of use, quality manufacturing, and the high quality of the end product--the pictures that his printer creates are clear, crisp, and professional quality! The printouts are document quality, and the copies and scans are literally photo quality. Buy this printer and you will not regret the decision!! NOT FOR A SECOND!!!

We upgraded our printer when we bought the new CPU from HP - the only thing it won't do is faxes (we kept the HP T45 for that purpose) - haven't explored all of its capabilites yet but am impressed at the print quality of what we have done - for the money it was a bargin.
Love the tanks - simple and neat - unsure how many copies I'll get but like the idea of a separate black tank for that purpose.

I bought this printer after having read multiple great reviews and browsing through various sites and prices. When i first tried photoprinting with unoriginal photopaper, I wasn't pleased with the results; the skin-tones were bronzed and there was too much red and yellow going on. But then I tried Canon's original paper, the glossy"everyday-use" and Photo Paper Pro, and the results blew me away! Perfect colors and skin-tones, just as on-screen. You need to make sure you use the profile for the paper your printing on and you should also use Canon's own printing software: Canon EasyPrint. Then you'll have a marvelous multifunction printer that won't let you down!

I've used my Canon PIXMA for about a month. So far it is easy to use and works great! I like its compact size for a multi-function machine. It is very attractive and looks a lot better than the Epson multi-function unit I did have. It also prints faster and better than the Epson. I paid about the same for each unit, but the Canon so far wins by many furlongs!

Review: This Canon printer is responsible for my divorce from HP
by: Richard Gangwer on date: January 22, 2007
This printer received top choice in PC World magazine (which is really the reason why I bought it) and second place in Computer Shopper magazine.

You will not be disappointed, great scan quality, great photo printing quality. After using a laserjet printer for the last fews years and finally deciding I wanted the ability to print color again I expected the print time to be slow (compared to the laserjet), but after the printer is turned on and does its initializing documents and photos print quickly.

Another reason I bought this printer was the cartridge costs. Seem to be a little more affordable then HP's.

The only reason I would deter anyone from buying this printer is if they had limited space in which to place it.

Review: Absolutely marvelous!
by: AYAN on date: January 21, 2007
I LOVE this printer!!! It's great because it separates photo ink from text ink. It's a bit bulky but the duplex-printing overrides that part. Prints very fast and has a easy-to-use photo software. A lot of different photo sizes to choose from which is helpful when making scrapbooks. Pictures are like store quality if not better. The copy function also has many options which is great. I just hope the cover would go all the way up (90 degree angle) but it's not a copy machine and would probably cost more if that was so. Scanning works very well. I use compact flash memory cards and it fits nicely with a light to tell you it's on. No USB printer cable so we bought one from Staples. Also good to have the option to print from the printer top or the cassette (goes very well with the duplex-printing). Overall I highly recommend Canon Pixma and might get another one for my sister.

I've done some testing with photos, comparing photos printed from this printer with those developed at Walmart on both matte (1-hour, 18 cents) and photo glossy (Kodak kiosc, 28 cents). The photos on this printer are of good photo quality, better than those at Walmart. I believe the print price to be from 25-30 cents, including paper cost if you get a good deal on paper at 5 cents per 4x6 sheet. I just need to print more pictures to be sure. I also compare these photos to those printer on the IP6600D from Canon with the extra 2 photo ink tanks. I believe these pictures to be of the same quality or better. This printer has more print nozels than that printer. The price from Amazon ($137) was an outstanding value. I haven't done much PC printing yet. Photos seem to print better from SD disk or directly from camera. Scanner/copier works great. I am very pleased with the purchase. When I get more details on the print cost, I will add to the review.

I have always had a flatbed scanner and a printer, now this MP600 takes
up less room and does the best job of anything I have ever used.Another big plus is not having to ghange plain paper to photo back and fourth. I
found the installation easy and instructions easy to follow. The ink seal
feature when it is turned off is another big plus. I had a printer that
was an "inkacholic". It used up the ink cleaning it's self.

This is not a light weight printer; it's got some real steel in it. Set-up went smoothly, just follow the directions. Be careful when removing the caps from the ink cartridges. I didn't follow directions on the first cartridge, it said don't squeeze it. I did and got ink on my hands. I learned the 1st time and had no further mishaps. Loading the driver is straight forward; just read the directions. I've printed 4" X 6" photos and word documents. I like this printer and would recommend it to others.

Review: 2006 Christmas gift for my wife
by: Brad Johnson on date: January 17, 2007
I began shopping for a multifunction printer a couple of months before Christmas. I visited Best Buy and Circuit City and briefly discussed the functionality of the various brands. I didn't find the sales staff at either store very helpful in narrowing down my selection. Therefore, I started searching the web for the best rated printers based upon factors such as quality of print, photos, speed and ease of operation. I narrowed the selection down to the Epson RX580 and the Canon MP 600. My final decision was based upon criteria such as the cost and availability of replacement ink, the footprint of the printer and finally user reviews from this and other websights. I liked the ability to print labels on CD's and DVD's offered on the Epson, but our computer hutch wouldn't accomidate the dimensions of the Epson. The more compelling factor was the limited reviews available on the Epson at the time of my research. There were (2) reviews written, one poor and one excellent. Both printers were priced within a few dollars of each other during my review. However, when I finally made my decision, Amazon was offering the Canon at $[...] with free shipping while the Canon remained at $[...]. Based upon the high marks given to Canon, it was time to order. The printer arrived in (3) days via UPS Ground Delivery.

Performance:
I had little difficulty installing the print head and print cartridges. The scroll wheel was a little touchy in the sense that it's easy to over-shoot the function you're looking for. Overall, the printer is very straight forward and user friendly. The software provided was easy to install and making changes to the defalt settings is not complicated. The true test for me was the quality of font for printing work documents and also the quality of photos. The document printing is very quick and the quality is very good. The ability to print on both sides of the paper is a nice perk. The speed is phenominal, quality is more than acceptible and the document printing and scanning is extemely quiet. I was very sceptical about what to expect when printing high quality photos. I printed out a few photos that were taken from our 5.0 MP Sony H1 and also (2) photos taken by a studio. Simply outstanding. For obvious economic reasons, I will still upload photos to Costco or Walgreens on large orders, but when my wife or I need a handful of photos and you don't want to sacrifice quality, this is the printer for you.

Review: Great Printer with Great Quality
by: J. Allenfort on date: January 16, 2007
I bought this printer because I've always been impressed by Canon equipment. I am just amazed at the photo quality. Photos print fast and they look gorgeous. The built in red-eye reduction works very well. I didn't think I would use the built-in card reader to make prints, but it turns out I use it as much as possible because it's so much faster and easier and the results seem better (unless the photo needs work that the printer can't do...).

The scanner/copier functions very well. I scanned a damaged wedding photo at very high resolution, repaired it in Paintshop Pro and then printed it on this printer. The results were absolutely fabulous. The Duplex function works well. I just wish it had an automatic doc feeder and a fax, but that's it. Oh, and I wish it were smaller. But, really I don't think I could be more impressed.

We ended up looking at the multi-purpose machines due to their prevalence and reasonable price. This seemed to be the most bang for the buck within the PIXMA line of printers. I am very impressed with how well this unit works. The print quality is very good. We printed out a 4x6 photo on a pre-cut 4x6 sheet and I can't tell the difference from the machines at Target (borderless too). I have scanned a variety of documents, all of which come through very quickly and cleanly. The copy machine is a big step up from the feed through fax machine we have that also copies (sort of).
Set-up was simple and straightforward. We hooked it up to a Mac, and installed some of the included software, which we found to be helpful with scanning mulit-paged documents.
Overall we are very impressed with this machine, and would recommend it to anyone.

This is a nice little all-in-one that prints excellent photos. Haven't had to replace any ink yet but I know that'll be expensive. :)

by: Katherine A. Trousdale on date: January 15, 2007
This is an easy to use, quality printer. Photo printing is excellent and I especially like having two paper sources so I don't have to continually change paper to go from letter to photo paper. Only thing I don't like is having to transfer pictures to the Canon software printing program to make the pictures print correctly. Maybe I just haven't figured the software out yet, but it only takes a moment to do it anyway. I highly recommend this printer.

Review: Canon Pixma MP600
by: B. Hall on date: January 13, 2007
I have had several multifunction printers that have failed after a couple of years. I did a lot of research before purchasing the MP600. It is bigger and heavier than I had anticipated, but if you have the space, it is a wonderful printer, copier and scanner, especially for the price. I like the paper cassette, which keeps dust out of the printer. It prints incredible photos, especially on the "high" setting. I would suggest staying with Canon ink cartridges instead of the cheaper "compatible" cartridges. Good ink really makes a difference when printing photos.

Not the speediest kid on the block but that may be due to the ten foot USB cable. Lots of great features and nice print quality.

Review: Love the MP600 4-In-One...Just what I needed!
by: S. Stoner on date: January 12, 2007
I needed to replace my 10-year-old Canon NP6012 Copier and wanted to also be able to copy in color. That old Canon was wonderful and dependable in its day so I decided to try a Canon 4-In-One. In the last ten years I have had both Epson and HP printers. Both had features I liked and disliked. After much research, I ordered a different Canon only to learn that it had been discontinued but was being replaced by the MP600. After reading about it, I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did! I purchased it at my peak printing season...November and December.

*It was easy to set up...I am 63 and did it all by myself with no problems.
*Be sure to order a USB cord...I don't know why they can't just include them.
*This machine is so QUIET (and does not vibrate the table like the HP) you can talk on the phone while it is printing nearby...could not do that with the HP.
*The copies and printing quality are crisp and clear.
*Since purchasing the MP600 at the end of October 2006, I have printed or copied over 1,000 copies of our Family calendar, Christmas letter, and two monthly Church newsletters, all of which have lots of graphics, photos, and text. I figure my printing time was cut in half over my old HP Business Inkjet 1100!
*I ordered the first extra ink cartridges from Amazon.com when I ordered the machine. They came from several different vendors which made for extra shipping costs. I found all cartridges at Staples for even lower prices and free shipping because I ordered so much. I live in the country so have to be well-stocked on everything.
*The ink cartridges are easy to change. Be aware that it takes two different black cartridges #5 and #8. The #5 goes fastest. I haven't had to replace the #8 yet BUT have #5 three times so far.
*I love the two-sided printing and the two paper trays! Poor paper feeding was a major problem with the HP.
*I haven't done much with the photo printer but my preliminary tests are very satisfactory.
*I would highly recommend this machine.

So far this is one great printer. All the pictures that I have copied look like a professional has done them. The printer does what they claim and prints very clear and sharp. I like this printer alot.

This model MP600 All-in-One Photo Printer IS without question the best printer for quality, speed and price.

Review: Pixma mp600 is amazing
by: J. Sughrue on date: January 10, 2007
Canon has outdone itself with this all-in-one (copy, scanner, printer) for those who don't need a fax. This is a perfect photo printer, a great scanner and copier (without your computer), and a multi-tray 2-sided printer. There are media card slots to get your pictures printed also without using your computer. This AIO exceeded my expectations in every way. There are plenty of buttons to handle changes before printing. There is also a wonderful scroll wheel for the full menu. (Although some people don't care for the scroll wheel.) This is a fast, high-quality combo machine that does it all for home or small office.

Review: Nice!
by: James Shefik on date: January 9, 2007
I have owned this all-in-one for a little over a month and have been very happy with its ease of use, print quality and miserly ink consumption. My only other experience was a 3yr.old entry level AIO,and have never used an HP or Epson so I can't comment or compare to them.

I bought a Canon 20D DSLR a year ago and have rarely taken digital files to be photo processed. The first print I tried was a revelation, rich saturated colors with good detail, fairly accurate color even without monitor calibration.Prints look best on Canon's best quality Photo Paper Pro stock but I did a bunch on their line below (photo Paper Plus) with very good results. I have mostly printed 4x6 size and this machine is FAST! The inks are very durable, and water resistant and I think, archival.

Being able to load a ton of regular printer paper into the lower tray and single load for photo is useful. I have just tested the scanner and it seemed fine.I don't use it often, mostly for CD covers when I am burning a disc and line drawing patterns.

I vote yes.

Review: A good purchase
by: Ann Lee on date: January 9, 2007
I bought this unit after considerable research, and though I have not yet used all the features, I am very pleased with how the PIXMA has performed thus far. The replacment cartridges are expensive, but all manufacturers appear to bite the bullet when pricing the printer, and make up the difference during the use of the unit. The quality of the printing is excellent...for both paper and photo printing. My only suggestion to others considering a printer when they have serious space limitations in their office would be to allow for the space required for the paper holder. This is not included in the dimensions provided. I bought this printer to replace another Canon that broke after about 2 1/2 years of use. This PIXMA MP 600 is a major improvement, and I would buy it again.

We absolutely has to have a printer with an Energy Star rating, since we make our office as green as possible. We researched many reviews and found the Pixma looked like the best. We've had it for 2 months or so, and we love it! Highly recommended.

by: Patricia Elliott on date: January 9, 2007
I had an older HP photo printer and a much older Epson Scanner. This printer replaced both and did it beautifully. Easy setup and easy to understand functions. The pictures come out looking like I had them done professionally. I actually scanned and printed last years school picture of my grandson and it came out better than new. Regular printing is as good as I've seen, and much faster. I did a lot of research and decided to wait for this printer to be released. I bought it as soon as it was available and I couldn't be more satisfied.

Review: My favorite printer!
by: ivorycassiopeia on date: January 8, 2007
OK, I am a complete sucker for new technology...and this printer definitely makes me happy. :) I managed to combine my all-in-one printer/scanner/copier and my photo printer, good stuff. Not to mention, the photo printer is fantastic! It is SO fast, and great quality. You can use any size photo paper. There are separate ink tanks, so if one of the CMY tanks is low, you don't have to change the whole cartridge - just the tank that you actually need to change...good stuff. Very easy to use, convenient size (not to bring with you anywhere - but certainly for underneath my computer desk), looks great (everything kind of closes up when you're not using it), and - again - the photo printing is super fast (even on highest quality setting). I highly recommend.

Review: Awesome photo printer!
by: Todd K. Whitehurst on date: January 8, 2007
I just purchased this 2 days ago, and I have already printed out several dozen prints from my Canon SD600 digital camera, most 4x6 but some 5x7 and 8x10. They all look amazing! My girlfriend also thought that the prints look just like we had purchased them from a photo lab. I have not yet tried the scanner, but I purchased it mainly for the photo printer capability.

Review: great multifunction
by: drmike on date: January 5, 2007
I have this printer for about a month. In short, this printer prints great photos and fast. Unlike one other reviewer I think that the colors are vivid, and accurate. It is also fast with regular printing, sharp text and the duplexing feature is great.
Sanning quality is very good. It, too, is rather speedy, but not in contrast to a more expensive, dedicated scanner. The included software is more than adequate. One complaint about the scanner software is that every time that you scan something, it defaults to a folder located in MY Documents/Pictures. If you want to place it into another folder that you have created, you browse to it . The problem is that if you have multiple scans to go into your created folder, you have to go back and browse from the default to the created folder again. It does not remember form the previous scan. A little thing but when you are doing multiple scans, it is just another step to go through.
I don't think for the price (and Amazon has an incredible price) you can find a better multifunction printer (without fax).
I previously owned a Canon i860 printer that I was thrilled with until the print head died and went with unit and have not regreted it one bit.

Review: Very happy with the MP600
by: Richard Gunderson on date: January 5, 2007
I started out 13 years ago with a Canon bubble jet printer, but had nothing but trouble with it. So I went to HP printers for a few years, and then Epson. The HP printers worked okay for a while, but the ink was quite expensive and eventually I had trouble with the electronics. The Epsons had cheaper ink and printed great but had terrible nozzle clogging issues. So now I'm back to Canon. I've had the MP600 for a couple of months now, and so far I am quite pleased with it. No clogs, all the buttons work as they should, print quality is good, and ink costs have been very reasonable. Overall I'm very happy with the MP600.

Positives:
-It prints much faster than the mid-range HP and Epsons that I have had.
-Print quality is very nice for a home office machine.
-Nice color preview screen.
-I love having the ability to print auto-duplex...works great!
-I like the paper tray...no paper sticking up in the air in the back.
-Ink usage has been good, and ink is relatively cheap at Amazon or OD.
-Scanner/copier gives good output and is easy to use.

Negatives:
-It is a bit bulky and boxy.

Review: Lots of bang for the buck
by: Gertrud Kahler on date: January 3, 2007
It took a while to set up, going step by step through the instructions. After reading some reviews, I decided to do EXACTLY as the instructions said, and in doing so, everything worked perfectly when it came on line. Set up took me about 30-45 minutes, but bet kids could do it faster.
I put it through its paces -- copying, scanning, printing photos from a photo card, and using the pic-bridge. Oh yea, I also did normal printing. It passed all these tests with flying colors.
I find that for documents and general printing (not photos), changing the default print mode to fast gives a very crisp document, and probably saves on ink. I also set my default to print multi-page items from back to front so that I do not have to reorder them after printing.
The duplexer is a real joy. So many times I have had to waste paper!
I am still in awe that I got all these features for the Amazon price (almost 25% below the retail stores in my area), and free shipping to boot! Even though my old printer died during the holidays and forced me to spend yet again, I must say that I feel that the value delivered for the dollar is superb, so it is money well spent.

Review: Poor print quality, my HP officejet 5510 blows it away
by: dazza on date: December 31, 2006
I just received this as a gift as I had asked for a printer specifically for photos. Admittedly I have not tried using glossy or matte photo paper yet but comparing the results on plain paper to my HP officejet 5510 is no contest. The HP blows this printer away. The canon colors are dull the HP colors are bright and fantastic.

Furthermore, the HP includes a fax and a doc feeder for the copier. (I don't know the price comparison so perhaps this isn't fair, but I would never print photos with this canon and that's the only reason I was looking for another printer anyway.)

Also - the setup is sooooo much more painful than with HP. Inserting the print head and cartridges is a much bigger pain. The fact that you have to peer inside the guts of the printer to find the serial number for registration is really annoying. Finally, this printer does not come with a USB cable - that really blows my mind. It can't add THAT much to the cost of the unit to include the cable and its almost unusable without that. (On the plus side, you can print directly from - some - cameras to the canon, which the HP can't do AFAIK, but the HP includes a USB cable.)

I will try a second comparison with photo quality paper, but I'm not optimistic. (And yes, I did make sure that the canon was set for plain paper -- this does make a difference but still doesn't come close to the quality of the HP printer)

Review: Ink for MP600
by: D. Erickson on date: December 28, 2006
I really like this printer. Regarding ink, do not buy the cheaper CYI-8PM (photo magenta) in place of the CYI-8M. I ordered the wrong one and subsequently checked with technical support and was told the photo ink could damage this printer.

Review: No network connection
by: Fly Dixie on date: December 27, 2006
I just got this printer for Christmas after about a month of research. It has everything I wanted in a multifunction, is simple to use and performs beautifully. However, I discovered one major drawback...it lacks network capability. I knew when I bought it that it did not have an ethernet port, however, I knew that using my Mac wireless Airport base station, I could print wirelessly anyway. I didn't think about scanning though. The result is that I can print from my computer in one section of the house with the printer in another, but I can't scan to my computer without physically plugging my laptop into the device. The frustrating thing is, in Europe Canon sells the MP600R, which has ethernet capability. Why not here, Canon?

UPDATE 1: While the first few prints I made were relatively quick, I am now having speed issues with certain types of PDF documents. I have an older computer (600 mhz iBook), without USB 2.0, so I realize that I won't reach the advertised speeds, but the printer seems to be even slower than my 5-year-old HP printer on some composite PDF documents, in some cases bogging down to a standstill. Text documents print about 5-10 ppm. On the upside, I was able to print about 200 pages of black text and graphics (by taking my laptop into the printer room and hooking it up directly) and have only used about half of the black ink tank. Print quality is also very high on both text and photos. I've only tried the scanner once, and it was satisfactory. The Canon scanner software takes an eternity to open, though.

I would also like the option to be able to save printer settings, for example, "always print from tray 1 when using Word." Instead I have to go through all of the print options every time I print. I ruined a bunch of photo paper from the other tray before I figured this out. I also noticed that every time printing is interrupted, it doesn't pick up where it left off, rather it starts the document over from the beginning. Very annoying.

I'm still debating whether I should take it back for a network-ready printer like the HP C5180 in the same price range. I am worried about losing quality though, especially with the scanner. But the advantages of a network connection may outweigh this. If I could downgrade my rating I'd take it to 3 stars.

Update 2: It's been a week and I am still having issues with this printer. While Canon's help desk was very responsive, I have concluded that 1: Print speeds are significantly reduced if you don't have high-speed USB (well, duh). 2: Printing over Airport with anything but plain-text is a no-go. The printer stops part-way through any photos or graphics and never recovers. I'm not sure if having high-speed USB would fix this problem or not.

Let me make clear I am not exactly 'dissing' Canon. I have an older iBook and this printer is just not suited to me. Anyone with a fast, new computer may have better results.

Last update: I just purchased the HP C6180 and it works great on the network. A little pricier (the C5180 is the same model without the auto feed and fax), but worth it for the ethernet alone. See my review.

Review: Blows HP and the Rest Away
by: Frank on date: December 26, 2006
My wife's HP G85xi died, and I was looking for a solid replacement. I looked at HP first, but feel they have lost quality over time to remain Competitive. Epson makes some nice stuff, but a bit pricy. I love my Canon camera, and thought I give this Printer a shot. (PS...HP Laser Printers are based on Canon Technology). I am so impressed with with quality and functionality of this machine. It handles paper like a champ, duplexes, and the quality of the print, especially photo's is amazing. The cost of ink is very reasonable. I paid $20.00 more than Amazon's current offering, and I thought it was a steal then. Don't hesitate, get yourself one of these, you'll be very happy. Only drawback is they don't include a USB cable, be sure add it to your order.

Review: Wish I would have purchased this a long time ago...
by: Cheeseboy on date: December 23, 2006
This is the best printer I've ever owned. My last printer was an Epson C86, which was a DISASTER - constantly clogging up, and kinda slow. This Canon MP600 is in a totally different class - fast and outstanding quality photo prints.

I guess I skimmed the features and reviews when I bought this printer, and didn't realize that the MP600 prints duplex copies (flips the page over and prints on the back as well as the front). I've tried it with regular 8.5 x 11 paper, and it works like a charm. Haven't tried it with thicker paper yet. I've never seen this feature in a printer that's this inexpensive!

Also aligns the print heads automatically - you don't have to analyze a bunch of lines and grids to see which one looks best. I thought this was slick.

First thing I did was scan a few photos to make copies. There are many options for sizing/positioning the pictures on the sheet. (BTW... I used Costco brand glossy photo paper - works wonderful on the glossy side, but you shouldn't print anything on the back of the Costco paper, as it won't dry properly due to the paper texture - ends up smudging easily. This is not a printer problem...) I used the "high" quality setting, making 4 pictures to a sheet, and pressed the "color copy" button. The printer actually starts printing while the pictures are still scanning - this makes the copy feature quite fast. I was amazed at how well the pictures turned out - we all thought the copies looked better than the originals. (Note... I manually adjusted the "darkness" to 1 "notch" darker than the auto setting, and the colors seemed more "vivid" than the original photos. Hope that made sense!)

This printer gives the option of popping your digital camera's memory card into the slot (Compact-Flash and SD cards) and printing using the easy menu screens.

When I first tried printing old photos from my computer's hard drive (photos were scanned with an old, cheap, low resolution scanner), I was disappointed with the results - bad pixelation and contrast. It took a few tries, but I finally figured out the settings that give stunning photo prints. "Vivid Photo" and "Image Optimizer" really clean everything up, so that the color/contrast/balance look fantastic and pictures look "smooth" (un-pixelated). Believe it or not, I got beautiful 8 x 10 prints from .jpg files that were between 100KB and 200KB. I'm just pointing out that these were POOR quality picture files, but the printer's image enhancing software worked miracles and got them to look beautiful.

I only had one "disappointment" with this all-in-one printer/scanner, and it's really kinda dumb. On the Amazon website, it's hard to tell how big and heavy this thing is... and as I mentioned, I didn't read the dimensions on the website very carefully... what can I say? I'm a typical guy. Anyway, this is somewhat big - it has to be - it has a full size scanner built into it! Don't let the size
