by: Scrap Crazy on date: June 27, 2007
Because of the price of this printer, I was apprehensive about purchasing. When I received it (and it arrived in days which was beyond my expectation) I was very happy with the photo prints. I was however very dissapointed that I used it about 5 times and I had a paper jam. I tried all the recommended trouble shoots on Canons website as well as in the manual and I still could not get it to clear. After emailing Canon they were very helpful, responded within one day and offered two options. Option 1 was to take it to a Authorized service center or they would ship me another printer however it would be refurbished. Because I only had it for less than thirty days, I did not want a refurbished printer since I paid for a new one so I took it to the authorized service center. They were able to fix the problem and they did say it was not because of anything I did. They also commented that this was a really good printer, one of Canons best. All in all I am happy with the printer, I just hope that I don't run into any other problems. The photo prints are really good.

Review: Dye-Based Inks?
by: Gonar T. Leyden on date: June 25, 2007
It's a great bargain for a wide-format printer, but you can get better results (and archival prints) for around the same price if you shop around for other models.

Canon's new 9180 printer uses pigment based inks and Epson's R1800, which has been on the market for a few years also uses pigment based inks. The benefit to these inks is that they produce archival prints lasting 200+ years. Dye-based prints (such as those used in the Pro9000) have a tendancy to fade after a few years if not kept in perfect conditions.

If you care about the longevity of your prints, pony up for the time tested Epson R1800 ($500 street) or new HP 9180 ($600 street) instead.

I recieved this printer as a gift from my wishlist a couple days ago. It was much larger then my old printer. I had to rearrange my office space to fit it in. It ended up underneath my desk..too big for my desk top.
Regardless of the size..the print quality is excellent. I've been printing photos for a while with 2 different HP printer and there is no comparison to the Canon Printer.

The best quality I've seen for a home printer. Crisp, clean, color is great. This printer also adjust to larger size images and print paper as well. You can print from a 4x6 to 11x14 and larger sheets. Every image is amazing crisp.

I am truly impressed..

Having used the HP 9650 for years, and the previous model before that, I still need the ability to print 11X17 paper. The PIXMA PRO 9000 installed easily, and runs seamlessly. The only issue I have with the product is the default paper and quality is set to Photo and it seems difficult to change it to a lower setting permanently. It wants to do photos, it is made to do photo quality, and it does it well.

Review: Amazing Printer
by: C. King on date: June 9, 2007
This is an amazing printer!

For years, I've gone with HP printers. I wanted a wide format printer, but was not at all impressed with the HP wide format printer that I got a year or so back. I had narrowed my choice down to the Canon Pixma Pro9000 or the Epson Stylus Photo R1800. I really wanted the ability to both print directly on CDs/DVDs and produce professional quality photographs. The Epson R1800 did both. The Canon Pro9000, though, did not have the CD/DVD printing capability. However, I was concerned about the reports of Epson's ink guzzling and print head clogging. I actually bought an Epson inkjet printer some years back and returned it because of the huge ink consumption.

I ultimately decided on the Canon printer, and could not be happier. The prints are incredible. I'd say that they are as good if not better than professional prints. The printer requires eight different ink cartridges, two of which are photo cartridges. I've used up the photo cartridges much faster than the others, but would certainly not describe the printer as ink guzzling.

After I got the printer, I discovered, much to my delight, that the Canon Pro9000 actually has the capability to print on CDs/DVDs. However, that feature is turned off on the US printers, supposedly because of some agreement between Canon and Epson. I was able to locate and purchase the "E" tray that comes with the Canon Pro9000 printers sold in Europe. In addition, I found both instructions on how to convert the US Canon printer to a European Canon printer so that it can print on CDs/DVDs, and software that could be downloaded to accomplish all of this. I can now produce professional looking CDs/DVDs and photographs.

Bottom line, I could not be happier!

Review: Awesom, but use the 90 pg "quick start" not the glossy
by: Mark A. Shallcross on date: April 27, 2007
Fabulous quality (tho only had it a couple of days, can't address the long term stability of the images) but this is really not a printer for the casual pc user to get anywhere near. Now that's legit: it's clearly designed for art studios and pro photo labs. But I did have more trouble setting it up than I was expecting. Hubris, I've been doing this stuff for over 20 years, so I thought I could just use the single oversize glossy "setup" guide. Unfortunately I think that was missing some rather significant required information. I fumbled through it, then looked at the printed 90 page "quick start guide (!) and if I'd actually bothered to RTFM as they say in our industry, yeah, it was all there.

Very nice printer. This is not the printer I was looking for, but I only bought it because it's Made in Japan. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it. This was an impulse purchase. Printer is really big and weighs about 30 pounds, but I'll get used to it.

Review: It's HUGE!!
by: A concerned Mom on date: April 15, 2007
I did a significant amount of research before settling on the Pro9000. I knew from the customer reviews here, that this printer would be larger than I would normally expect. What NONE of them said was that it does not have in internal paper cartridge. Because of this, to print on the 9000 you must open and fully extend the front catch tray and the paper feed support in the rear of the machine. This adds a startling 23 inches (13 front and 10 in back)to the footprint.

That being said, the print quality is well worth the added real estate on my desk top. Additionally, the printing it is unbelievably quiet and quick. Just make sure you have enough room in your stable for this amazing work horse.

by: M. Roth on date: March 28, 2007
This will be very short, however I felt compelled to write something just because of how happy I am with this printer. We have an HP also which does the job pretty good with the occational paper jam. I got this one because the reviews on the new HP 13x19 printers are scattered but the reviews for Canon seem to be solid and I would have to agree 100% for good reason. We print about 5000 sheets a month in all sizes and the Canon Pro9000 handles it effortlessly with the best color I have seen around. Our ink replacement bill is also not as high as the HP we use as well which makes for an excellent printer. I don't have details but just wanted to voice my 2 cents in case you are on the fence as which 13x19 printer to buy.

its pretty large. It takes up 1/2 of my desk. I can't wait for USB wireless to come out later this year so i can put it somewhere else.

First thing i printed out was a 11x8 portrait of my daughter and its absolutely stunning. All the colors are exactly the way they look on the computer.
I would say that this printer is mainly for larger pictures because i printed out some 3x5's and 4x6's and the quality isn't much different than my Canon i470d which costs $50.
Plus i like the idea of having more cartridges rather than having to replace an entire color cartridge when only one color runs out. I've had it for about a month now and i'd recommend it.

Review: Good printer but very large
by: Ronald Rogers on date: February 21, 2007
I have had this printer for 2 months since excellent delivery by Amazon. It makes great prints, but to my eye the prints are not any better than the i9900 printers I also have. Perhaps the archival quality of the cli-8 ink is better than the bci-6 ink used in the i9900, but definitely not a big difference over the quality of the i9900 prints. Ink is quite a bit more expensive for the pro9000, and the cartridges have a chip to detect if you are trying to refill the cartridge. Chip can be bypassed, but at the loss of low ink warnings, and probable loss of warranty. I use Canon ink in all printers, and source images are from Canon 20D and 5D.

Review: Excellent quality, easy to use.
by: N Wagner on date: February 19, 2007
While we have only had this printer for less than 2 months, the setup was very easy, and we made some very good quality prints. The software includes and "easy" print method to make sure you get the quality and size you need. It is better than the Photo Print wizard that comes with Windows XP. The only down side to this printer is the 8 different colors of ink cartridges you need, but I will take the quality I have seen over the inconvenience.

I was looking to up-grade my photographic printer and researched The Pro 9000. Well worth the money if you are serious about your printed images and do not want to keep going to a lab to print your work

Review: Great large format printer
by: Photo buff on date: February 5, 2007
I've had this printer for 6 weeks and it performs great. I used the front loader to print on canvas. Easy to follow directions made this simple. The prints on canvas turned out very sharp. Majority of my printing has been 12x16 or 11x14 and the colors have been sharp and bright. The only concern is the reds are strong! I think I'm not used to the extra red ink tank and how it contributes to the overall colors.
Over very happy with this printer.

Fantastic printer. Very high print quality, exceptionally quiet, the only noise is the paper being grabbed. There is even a quiet mode (can't imagine why) which I have yet to try, have only printed in normal mode.
Easy setup and install, a USB cable is required and would have been nice if provided with printer.

Only one caveat, this printer is huge and will consume a good deal of desktop space. Mine sits on a file cabinet and is actually slighty bigger than the cabinet.

Delivery of the printer was fast. The first thing you notice when taking it out of the bax is the size, 30" wide. The instructions are easy to read and very complete and once hooked up you're ready to print.
There are many printing options, depending on the paper type, to get the best results. After a few practice prints I found the the quality and detail to be outstanding. I've printed 4 x6, 81/2 X 11 and 13 X 19 with complete satisfaction.

by: E. Rivera on date: January 15, 2007
After years of shooting and developing film, I took the digital plunge 3 years ago. If was getting harder and cost prohibitive to support my color dark room hobby. when I started shooting digital, I sent all my work to profetional labs for processing. NOT NAY MORE.

After reading all the the reviews on this printer, I'm extremelly happy to have purchased this printer.

The whole process of color management and printing with the Canon
Easy-print plug-in and Photoshop is very well thought out and esay to implement.

The color gamut for the printer is superb! PRints have the same look and feel of chemical processed paper. And the output... Once you print and see the final product, there will be no reason to use a profetional lab any more. Instant gratification and pride in your work is why I went with this printer.

I was waiting with anticipation for the arrival of this printer, and can say to all readers that it was worth every second. We have a small studio doing portraits and nature photography, and it has been in use in our studio for about one month with great results. This printer produces professional quality prints without effort. The operation is smooth and competent. We have fed all types of papers through it from Canon, Kodak, Ilford, HP and Staples. The output is seamless and consistent, and the 13 x 19 prints are breathtaking. I am not a nuts and bolts type of person, so I cannot speak to the specifications. I am results-oriented and have an eye for what is acceptable or outstanding. I can state that I am very pleased with this product.

Review: A Fabulous Printer
by: Robert Nichols on date: December 31, 2006
My new Pixma Pro9000 is astoundingly good. I have used Epson photo printers for about 10 years and was reasonably content with the results, although I was somewhat bothered by the slowness and never able to perfectly match monitor and print despite calibrating with a Pantone ColorVision Spyder2. Now, for the first time my print output is exactly like what I see on screen. The speed of the printer is amazing - a 4x6 on highest quality takes a bit over a minute and less than a minute on standard quality. Larger sizes also print five or six times as fast as my Epson did. The output quality on Canon Photo Paper Pro Super High Gloss is just beautiful - wonderfully deep and rich colors essentially indistinguishable from those on the monitor screen.

The previous poster complained about the included software Easy PhotoPrint, but this application is not meant for sophisticated users. Also supplied with the printer is a plug-in for Photoshop, Easy Photoprint Pro, which allows complete control over the printing process, as does, of course, Photoshop itself. I was surprised to see that the print output when I let the printer driver manage the color handling in Photoshop was equal or superior to that obtained when I used ICC profiles and let Photoshop do the color handling.

Review: Decent Large Format Printer
by: R.M. Fernandez on date: December 30, 2006
I bought this printer based on the glowing reviews from other Amazon users. So far I've printed several 4x6's, one 13x19, and one 11x14. I must admit, I'm a little underwhelmed by the performance of this "pro" printer.

For starters, the quality of 4x6 prints is very nice, although you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a 4x6 from this printer versus a 4x6 of an $80 inkjet.

The quality of the 13x19 print on super high gloss is amazing. This is where the printer excells.

The technical details boast of printing an 11x14 print in under 2 minutes. Unfortunately, this printer doesn't support the 11x14 format. I had to crop my image to 11x14, place it in an 11x17 document, and select the 11x17 format from the menu settings. A bit cumbersome.

The software that comes with the printer (Easy Photo-Print) is very disappointing. I'm not sure why, but it forces you to choose between a limited size format - basically 4x6, 5x7, letter, A3, A4, 11x17, 13x19, 8x10, 10x12, 14x17 or 4x8. Paper stock choices change with every dimension. Full bleed varies depending on the paper stock (11x17 high resolution matte paper CANNOT be full bled).

To summarize, this printer creates amazing 13x19 prints, although the amount of control you have over your print settings is very limited and frustrating.

I have had this printer for a month at this point - printing from Photoshop CS2 and a calibrated monitor. Wonderful results. Looking forward to the art papers, but very happy with the Photo Paper Pro. I am finally looking at a print that matches my screen.

I always have thought that it didn't have to be so hard ... and it isn't.

Review: Excellent Printer at good price.
by: M. C. Lee on date: December 15, 2006
I have been waiting for this printer ever since it was announced and also hoping that the price would go down from its initial MSRP price of $[...]. Amazon finally came down to a price that I deemed acceptable and I bought it at a net cost of $[...] delivered.

Being my first photo printer, I had some trepidation with it, not knowing for sure what to expect. However, I have to say that I am overall very satisfied with the result. Photographs are really meant to be printed instead of viewed on a monitor. So far I am happy with the results on Photo Paper Pro papers. I am waiting for the arrival of my order of the Fine Art papers to see how they fare.

The only issue (albeit a major one) is that a lot of flesh tones tilt toward the red, but the solution is to color management within the easy photo print pro plug-in that comes with the printer. The following review has a good review on how to use it.

[...]

I believe that most people will find this printer a great addition to their hobby.

Review: A Superb product
by: Dr. Arthur Gleiner on date: December 13, 2006
This printer is a first rate piece of technology. Everything from its paper handling to its print quality to the software utilities that accompany it are excellent. It has greatly exceeded my expectations and has far outperformed other printers I have owned over the past 15 years.

I have had some prints done by a professional lab for comparison purposes. The Canon is indistinguishable in its quality. Once it is properly set up, you get a very accurate transfer of color and luminence from screen to paper - a feat that has been close to impossible with other printers I have used. The fact that you can accurately edit a picture and predict the appearance of the print so reliably saves you a tremendous amount of time and money.

The print drivers that Canon includes are well documented, but you must take some time to read and understang the process of using them to get the best results. Once you have yours properly set up, you will quickly become addicted to the results.

Its paper handling is especially noteworthy. Heavy stock that requires hand feeding and constant supervision with other printers can be batch loaded and print flawlessly with the Canon. If you value your time and your sanity, you will appreciate what this means.

Worth every penny!

The printer was priced right, shipped quick, got here in one piece and worked perfectly right out of the box. What more could you ask for?

Wow! I have owned both HP and Epson printers for my digital pictures. Those printers do not compare to this BIG DAWG! yes, it's big takes a lot of space. I Love this printer, it works great, either directly from my canon rebel xti or from the computer running vista. Small or big prints this is a printer for the serious hobby photographer or the professional just getting out. Sets up easy. I have a closet of printers anyone interested, good price. haha. Thanks Amazon for a great price. No one could touch it!

Canon is still tops in printers.

Review: Nice mammoth-size printer weighing 30 pounds...
by: W. Chan on date: April 21, 2007

Review: Architectural Office Use

Review: BEST printer EVER!
by: Eric on date: March 25, 2007
I have owned MANY different printers, and I have to say this is the best one i have ever owned. Why did it take me so long to try a Canon? I will never go back to any other brand!

its pretty large.

Review: Great Printer

This printer produces very nice pictures.
I am very happy with the 13x19 size,
so far there is nothing that I don't like about this printer.

The only down side to this printer is the 8 different colors of ink cartridges you need, but I will take the quality I have seen over the inconvenience.

by: Frank P. Ficalora on date: February 15, 2007
I was looking to up-grade my photographic printer and researched The Pro 9000. This printer does a fantastic job, consumes less ink than comparable Epsom printers, and has exceeded my expectations on print quality.

Review: Great Color
by: B. Campbell on date: January 28, 2007
This is the best printer I've ever used for printing photographs. It replaced and HP Photosmart and is much faster and better color rendering. The only drawback is the size, it is about 26 inches wide.

Review: Canon Pro 9000
by: B. Hester on date: January 22, 2007

Mine sits on a file cabinet and is actually slighty bigger than the cabinet.

by: Robert R. Koblewski on date: January 15, 2007

Review: No more chemical smell in my house!

Review: finally no more red sky
by: Katherine Mann on date: December 23, 2006

Review: Better than commercial printers!
by: A. Weist on date: December 5, 2006
Got this last week and it's tremendous! I'm printing on Canon Pro and Plus papers, as well as Ilford gallerie papers. They're all breathtaking. My friends and family think they're professionally printed. I'm really happy with it. Had a Canon pixma i6600. Not even in the same category. I'm so glad I upgraded. Will print up to 13x19. It's fast too! But it is gigantic!!! I absolutely highly recommend it!
